  1. First Detroit is operating in the red (i.e. they are losing money on an annual basis). The difference is the Illitch is desperate to have the Tigers win the WS before he dies. With all of the championships that he as won with the Red Wings, he is ashamed that he hasn't won with the Tigers and is spending all that he can in order to buy a championship. It hasn't worked yet.
  2. You may be correct, but I read otherwise.
  3. Puck is correct, there is league preference, so since Texas has the best record in the AL we know that 13 passed on him.
  4. Nope, Mastroianni's move made room for Colabello. They are probably going to move Wood to the 60-Day DL to make room for Deduno. Since they are the only 2 injured players they are going to have to bump someone off of the 40-man to make room for Walters.
  5. This only applies to veterans. Worley hasn't achieved that status yet. Pelfrey on the other hand has. Even though Pelfrey does have an option left, since he has veteran status he can refuse the assignment and become a free agent.
  6. The tale of 2 Kyles. So far Kyle has pitched great every other outing: 5 games, 35.2IP and 2 ER. His other 4 outings have been 17IP and 17ER. I can see where the FO would like to see a little consistency before calling him up.
  7. I find it humorous that after the BP collapse on Friday that Dick n Bert were commenting that the Twins have 5 games before there next off day and they need the starters to go at least 6 IP in those 5 games (minimum of 30 innings). Since they made the comment, no starter has completed 6 so in order to get the 30 innings both Correia and Pelfrey have to pitch 7 innings each.
  8. A SW wind is blowing to LF not CF. From HP to straight Center is Due East. North is the line from First to Third. Also it looks like the Wind will be out of the West by game time and shifting to WNW by the end of the game. So in that aspect the wind will be to CF/Right Center for the game.
  9. I have a question regarding 2 similar plays. Friday Plouffe was credited with an error for his wild throw while fielding a bunt bare handed, which I believe was the correct call. On the other hand, a similar play with Burton on Monday was ruled a hit. The only difference was that Burton's throw only pulled Morneau off of the bag instead of missing completely.
  10. Mauer is 6 for 19 with RISP and 7 RBIs Hicks is 6 for 20 w/RISP and 11 RBIs Mauer is performing in Run Producing situations, it's just the guys on base aren't scoring.
  11. I think it is his legs. He finally has his leg strength back.
  12. Well at least Perez didn't ask to be released on the 1st.
  13. My Guess is that Mauer will get Wednesday (Day game) and Thursday (No Game) off.
  14. Here is the data for you: Last year with Pittsburgh, Correia pitch 6-7 innings 19 times. Of those 19 he completed the frame 17 times. In the 17 games where he finished the inning, he was PH for in the next inning 10 times. The other 7 times he was just taken out of the game. Also of note of those 17 games he only topped 95 pitches twice (107, 97), was between 90-95 pitches 6 times. Which means that in at least 9 of the games he could've easily gone back out there. There were even 3 instances where he was taken out after tossing less than 80 pitches (78,73,67), but 2 of those had come when he was switching between the BP and rotation.
  15. This looks to be a tough series based on the ERA of the SP. They all have an ERA less than 3.25.
  16. How much longer do we have to endure Pelfrey before he is asked to work on some things in AAA? It looks like he has 1 option left, but due to his veteran status he can refuse the assignment. It is torture watching the games that he pitches. His pace is slow and he has a WHIP of 2 which means that on average he faces 5 batters/inning. He has pitched 5 innings or less in every outing. And the game time has been at least 3:30 for 3 of his 4 starts (the game that he last 2 innings went 2:51).
  17. Assuming Parmelee can hold his own, I believe that Morneau will be traded first. Willingham is one of the few right handed power bats that the Twins have, so I would hold on to him as long as possible.
  18. I believe that he is about a week short. Now he would have to be sent down for 3 weeks to get that week back. A player has to be sent down for 21 days for that time to NOT count against his clock.
  19. In all fairness, Escobar as played in 9 games (mostly after Florimon has been PH for) with 3 starts and Carroll has played in 5 games with 2 starts. Considering they have only played 13 games that isn't enough of a difference to extrapolate anything.
  20. I stand corrected. According to the article on the Twins' website it is the same injury that originally occurred in ST when he fouled a pitch off of his ankle. He has since re-aggravated the injury twice this season (the latest being Monday night) so they decided it was time to shut him down until it is fully recovered.
  21. @Kab21, I believe that Mastro has 2 leg injuries. The first is the shin problem that he has be dealing with since ST which he has been playing through. The second is the sprained ankle that occurred on Monday which he obviously can't play with.
  22. I read on the Pioneer Press that this was the first time in Correia's career that pitched 7+ innings in 3 straight starts.
  23. The reason that Correia went out for the 8th in his last outing was because he was dominating and his pitch count was in the low 80's. Last night he was taken out after 7 with a pitch count of 102.
  24. Compared to the rest of the league that may be true, but his offense was the best while he was the DH. Last year he started about as many games at DH as he did at C. While his BA was slightly better at C, every other offensive stat was much greater while he was a DH.
