  1. Just a thought here but maybe Neal and Ryan meant to say that they won't pay MORE than 2/$15 for average pitching.
  2. That is not True. They had $26M in operating Revenue. Operating Revenue does NOT equal Profits.
  3. It's a minor league deal so he will get paid the same as the rest of the minor leaguers (around $50k).
  4. The current roster is projected to be around $80M. That means the Twins have plenty of money available to sign Marcum, Saunders, Brett Myers, or Erik Bedard and still get infield help.
  5. I don't believe that they charge for autographs on the Caravan, but I do believe that they sell tickets for the events so it is limited seating and they are only there for a relatively short period of time. I believe the stick around a little bit longer at the "last stop of the day".
  6. Let understand this, League average is 4.10. Teams have 5 starters and you claim that teams have 3 pitchers that are above average. That must be some new math.
  7. Yes I believe that the Pohlad family is committed to winning. But they intend to do it by operating it as a stand alone self sustaining entity.
  8. But he had already won it twice.
  9. Yes, I noticed the problem this morning in both the "hot Stove" and "Trade Window" articles. The front page said they had 8 and 7 comments respectively but when I read the articles only 1 comment was visible. I had to go to the forum to read the remaining comments.
  10. Actually it is they have an owner desperate to win a WS Title before he dies. Illitch owns both the Red Wings and Tigers. While the Red Wings have been perennial winners, the Tigers have barely sniffed the postseason in the 20 years that he has owned the club. He is getting up there in years and the last few years he as take a huge loss on the Tigers in the effort to get a WS title.
  11. Players on the 40-man don't get ST invites as they are required to attend.
  12. The "We have to have the numbers" quote basically means that you have to have enough potential quality pitchers in order to have a backup plan in case you have problems with the planned starting 5. The last 2 years the Twins didn't have any pitchers ready to step in when the Starting 5 failed due to injury or ineffectiveness.
  13. "To that end, Correia had 17 starts last year where he went at least 6IP with < 4 earned runs. No Twins starter from last year can claim that. Pittsburgh went 15-13 in games started by Correia last year - I would take that outcome in a heartbeat." Actually he only had 16 Quality Starts last year, the same number as Diamond.
  14. Your argument doesn't fly. First you should sign from the top down. Get the best pitcher you can first and then use what money you have left for the back end of the rotation. Next Players like Correia could be signed in late January or February, there is no rush to sign him. 3rd, he is not significantly better than the likes of Deduno, DeVries and Walter who we already have for 1/10 of the price. Before this signing we had 2 #3's penciled into the rotation with Worley and Diamond. Gibson is a potential #2 but he is a rookie, returning from TJ surgery and will be on a innings limit in 2013. We have a plethora of back end arms with Deduno, DeVries, Walters, Hendricks and Blackurn. What we need is a veteran top of the rotation guy. While I wouldn't sign a pitcher to more than 4 years, there are several pitchers that are could be had for 3 or 4 years that fit our needs.
  15. If Mauer plays in 150 games, I would like him to catch 60% of the time and 20% at 1B and DH. That would give him 90 games at C and 30 each @ 1B and DH.
  16. PTBNL trades must be completed within 6 months of the remainder of the trade so even that prevents Gausman from being in a trade at this time. They would have to wait until mid-March in order to include Gausman as a PTBNL.
  17. While you can do a PTBNL, I don't think you can wait 9 months to name that player. I could see Gausman as a PTBNL in a June or July trade not a December or January one.
  18. Gausman is impossible to get as he can't be traded until August at the earliest. Draft picks can't be traded until 1 year after their signing date.
  19. First, there is no way Todd Walker makes the HOF. Also, even if he did, he doesn't get to pick which hat he would wear. MLB now chooses which team HOF'ers go in with.
  20. Your recollection is mostly correct except for 2011 being neutral, the payed into Revenue Sharing into 2011 and 2012.
  21. I am not high on Dempster. While he has always had good K and BB rates, he has always had high hit rates and that is in the NL where he faces a pitcher every 3 innings. His career WHIP is 1.433. He had a 5+ERA with the Rangers last year and I think that is where he will stay if with an AL team.
  22. While he may not get non-tendered today, he definitely won't be getting a raise. Even if Butera goes to arbitration he will make league minimum.
  23. Herrmann will most likely be replacing Butera as the 3rd catcher when he get's non-tendered by Friday.
  24. no, since he can't be put on the DL until the end of ST.
  25. It's FA with a ton of cash floating around....what in god's name do people expect? I'll keep saying it, Baker is going to look like a steal at 5M by the end of this. I have to wonder where the Twins drew the line with him. Maybe he just didn't want to come back or wanted to try somewhere else. I don't blame him since the Twins training staff completely destroyed his ability to make a lot of money this offseason. My understanding is that the sticking point was the option year. The Twins were insistent on one and Baker was adamant against. I can see it from both sides. With the assumption that Baker pitches well in 2013, the Twins were hoping to get an extra year at a relatively cheap salary. From Baker's standpoint, his next contract is probably going to be his last so he is hoping that he can get a 3/30+ after next season and didn't want to wait an extra year to hit FA again.
