  1. Obviously they wouldn't put any player making league minimum on waivers as there really isn't any point.
  2. I just ran the numbers and the average of the top 125 2012 MLB salaries comes to $12.8M
  3. First of all a 67% BS percentage is awful. If your percentage isn't greater than 75% you are bad at it. 2nd, Span has "only" been picked off 3 times this year. While it is still 3 too many it is far better than the 10 times he was picked of in 2009 and 2010.
  4. I expect to see him no later than May.
  5. Young was a waiver claim, not a straight trade. The Twins had very little negotiating power/leverage with Young. We either had to take what Detroit offered or pull him back and keep him.
  6. The $9M option seems about right, but the $5M first year is too high unless it is $2M base with $3M in incentives.
  7. If the former teams doesn't get the forfeited pick, where does it go? I highly doubt that the pick disappears, it has to go somewhere and the logical choice is to the former team.
  8. They both say the same thing but in different ways. They both say you get 1 comp pick between the 1st and 2nd rounds plus the signing teams 1st round pick (unless they pick in the top 10 then you will get a 2nd round pick).
  9. Why deal with private corporations? While the subsidy may not be $390M per company, virtually all corporations get public subsidies in one form or another as incentives to build a new facility in their location.
  10. I don't know of many instances where shoulder inflammation led to TJ surgery. He may end up needing Rotator cuff or labrum surgery.
  11. My Guess is that Swarzak is going to start on Sunday, with Walters returning to the rotation after the AS Break.
  12. That Scenario could play out if he started throwing last week. If he hasn't started throwing he won't be back until August at the earliest as he will need at least 3 rehab starts after about a week of throwing to get his arm strength back so that is a minimum of three weeks after he starts throwing.
  13. I don't know why declining it would burn any bridges. With the injury I think Baker and his agent expect it to be declined. He knows that he is going to have to settle on a 1 year "prove he's healthy" incentive laden contract. Whether that is with the Twins or elsewhere is anybody's guess.
  14. They definitely won't trade for Greinke or Hamels so they won't give up anyone to get them. If they pursue them (which they won't), it would be as Free Agents in the offseason.
  15. Blackburn was available in the BP because it was his normal day for a BP session and he only threw 60 pitches in his last outing.
  16. While Swarzak's overall ERA has been in the high fours, his career ERA as a Reliever is 3.48 in 34 games (WHIP of 1.25). As a starter his ERA is 5.74 (27 games) with a WHIP if 1.50. This year he has a 8.35 ERA as a starter (4 games/18IP, WHIP=1.855) and a 2.95 ERA as a reliever (18 games/36IP, WHIP+1.064). He has very good value as a guy who can throw 2-3 innings at a shot.
  17. I'm sure Liriano and his Agent are praying that the Twins make him a qualifying offer as he will accept it before the ink dries. There is no way that the Twins are going to make Liriano a qualifying offer of $12M+.
  18. It all depends on the amount of rotation you get on the ball relative to the velocity.
  19. You are correct in the timing. What has changed is that now when you offer a player FA Arbitration your offer is at least the average of the top 150 salaries.
  20. Kepler was signed @ 16 and started is career @ 17. He is currently 19 and in E-town.
  21. he needs about 28 days if he plays everyday assuming that he will get 5 PAs per game. He is currently @ 171 and needs to be @ 224 to qualify. So he should qualify by late July or early August.
  22. Since Liriano was reinserted into the rotation, Butera has been his personal catcher. Butera does a better job of babysitting Liriano than Mauer does. He goes out to the mound more and is more animated behind the plate in his efforts to keep Liriano focused and relaxed.
  23. What is "humorous" is that with how well Liriano has pitched recently he is 1-2 over that time as the Twins have only scored 11 runs in his 5 outings. On the other hand Blackburn is 3-0 since his return from the DL while having an ERA of 6.00 over that span as the Twins have scored 25 runs in those 4 games.
  24. I concur with this.
