  1. I didn't mind Marquis going out for the 7th, but feel it was a stretch. But I would've had someone ready to go and pulled him with the 1st baserunner. Marquis did get through the 6th on 9 pitches.
  2. @stringer bell, they are going to carry 13 pitchers until they no for sure if Blackburn can take his start on Tuesday. That will be determined by his BP sessions today and Sunday. If he can go Swarzak will move back to the BP and another pitcher will be optioned or DFA'ed. If he can't go, he'll be DL'ed retroactive to 4/14 which means he can be activated on 4/30.
  3. If Smith was running the show, Butera would be up here as he gave Gardy what ever he wanted. With Ryan in charge, Gardy would have to make a very compelling case to convince Ryan to bring up Butera. Ryan is the one who has final say on the roster. Gardy can make requests, but Ryan makes the calls. That being said, I believe that Hughes was the "emergency" catcher. Who has that role now?
  4. Considering that they left 15 guys on base for Saturday's game, 30 is probably not to far off.
  5. Roger, If when Morneau is playing 1B more, Mauer will DH instead of playing 1B. Mauer will only play 1B as when Morneau is DH'ing. Also, Parmelee will play a few games in RF.
  6. You have Gray confused with Maloney. Maloney, Duensing and Perkins are the 3 lefties currently in the BP.
  7. Yes I know that there was a major difference in the 2 situations as Marquis needed to make up time that he missed.
  8. Why not, Marquis did and he has 11 years of experience. Liriano's future is at stake. If he is looking to make any money beyond this year he has to show that he is a capable pitcher. Right now he can't do that for the Twins. It would be best for him and the Team for him to agree to go to Rochester. This scenario is based on the scenario that he has options remaining, which I don't know for sure. Probably 1/3rd of his 5 years of experience was earned while on the DL so he really hasn't earned veteran status yet in my opinion.
  9. Yes they could do that, but I don't see Baker getting more than a 1 year offer for $1M plus incentives.
  10. With Marquis being re-called to start tonight the Twins have to make a corresponding move to make room for him on the 25-man roster, what do you think they will/should do? 1. Option Liriano to Rochester (requires Liriano's permission since he has 5 years of service) 2. DL Blackburn or Perkins 3. Dump Burroughs 4. Option Burnett to Rochester 5. Other. If Liriano accepts I think the best option would be to send him to Rochester. That would at least give them a couple of more days before they have to make a decision on Blackburn. If Blackburn can't pitch Sunday you DL him and bring up Diamond or Manship for a spot start.
  11. John, from what I hear Detroit would've like to keep Thomas but didn't have room for him and tried to sneak him through waivers. He wasn't waived because he was bad, they were hoping that he would clear waivers so they could send him to AAA to get regular playing time. Kind of like what the Twins tried to do with Neshek last year. I believe that Thomas is going to be the primary Right Fielder from here on out.
  12. Actually with the addition of Thomas and with Morneau playing some 1B, early on it will affect Doumit more than Parmelee. Morneau will get Mauer's starts at 1B with Mauer DH'ing. Parmelee will still get 60% of the starts @ 1B.
  13. Mauer's won 3 Gold Glove's from 2008-2010 and will most likely be in the running again this year.
  14. I don't mind Mauer and Doumit in the same game as Doumit has a history of being a good hitter with some power. What really irks me was Gardy's refusal to swap Revere as a defensive replacement late in the game. He didn't want to risk loosing the backup catcher option with 2 innings left in the game.
  15. Of all the bullpen pitchers that could be sent down, Burnett is the only one that can be sent down without clearing waivers first. Maloney, Capps and Burton are the only BP arms to give up runs so far. Hendricks was originally intended to fill a spot until Baker and Marquis return and then be sent back to Rochester. Now with Baker out for the year, they will probably give him more than 1 start, but he will probably be on a pretty short leash before the switch to Swarzak and send him down for more seasoning in AAA.
  16. It looks the rain is supposed hold off until after 10. The weather channel lists a 10% chance of rain until 10.
  17. The Twins didn't want to commit more than 3 years to Hunter as he was already 32. They offered him a market value offer for 3 years, but Hunter wanted more years. Until the Angels offered 5yrs, Hunter was going to sign a 4yr deal. Santana was never going to resign with the Twins. He was pissed of that we traded Castillo (?) at the trade deadline and wanted to go to a large market. Mauer was 27 when sighed his contract and will be 36 when it ends.
  18. With a lefty on the mound tonight this is about as right handed that they can get.
  19. Both Hunter and Santana wanted the years and the Twins wouldn't give them the length of contract they desired for their ages as they felt it was too much of a risk. It had nothing to do with race as the Twins offered both players extensions, they just got better offers elsewhere.
  20. I usually park at the ridedale park & ride and take the express bus to the games, but when I park downtown I park under the I-94 3rd & 4th Street exit/entrance ramps. Cost is $5.
  21. I've been to the 508 a couple of times before games. They have a 2 for 1 drink special on domestic beer with a gameday ticket.
  22. I agree Boom Boom. Even though Target Field is dimensionally similar to the Metrodome, it doesn't play the same. That was one of the main reasons that the let Kubel and Cuddyer go and replaced them with Willingham and Doumit. They have to start molding their team to suit the stadium.
  23. Officially the paid attendance was over 31,000. So I highly doubt it was the lowest ever.
  24. Yes, he hasn't hit well so far (neither has Mauer, Valencia and several others), but he has history of being a good hitter with some pop. He has a career .271BA, is a switch hitter and can get around 15HRs.
  25. Surly is $7.75 for a 20oz cup ($0.50 more than budweiser).
