  1. While it would be nice to see Blyleven, Morris and possibly Gladden get into coaching, you'll probably never see it happen. Why would they give up their relatively stress free job in broadcasting to deal with the rigors of coaching? The coaching salary isn't significantly more than their broadcasting gigs and they would have to work year round instead of the 6-7 months that they currently work.
  2. I don't know much, but I know that Hicks will not be sent down for only 10 days. First it is a complete waste of an option. And those 10 days would still count as major league service time. Any optional assignment of 20 days or less would still count as accrued service time.
  3. Good question. It is tough to say, while numbers in the 60's are rare some players do choose them. Dick & Bert think that he will have a new number come opening day. What number did he wear in the minors?
  4. MLBTraderumors is pretty good for the players on the 40 man (Plouffe, Swarzak, Wood, & Roenicke). I can't help with the others.
  5. How do we know that Plouffe didn't offer and Bruno declined?
  6. First, if Bruno wanted #24, he would have it. While he did wear that number with the Twins, he wore 5 different numbers over his career, including #23. It probably isn't that important to him.
  7. It looks like the outfield is set since Willingham, Hicks, Mastroianni, and Parmelee are the only OFs left on the roster. With only 29 players on the active roster, they have 4 moves to make to get down to the Opening Day Roster. With 2 of those moves being Diamond and Swarzak to the DL that only leaves 2 moves yet to be decided. Hopefully 1 of those is Drew Butera. Looking at who's left on the active roster, it looks like they almost have to open up a spot on the 40-man roster and add a bench bat. Right now there are 16 pitchers left on the active roster. Assuming that they go with 12 that means they need to remove 4 (counting Diamond and Swarzak). That would leave a bench of Mastro, Carroll, Escobar and Butera. That isn't very encouraging. While Mastro and Escobar are okay as PR, there isn't much offensive potential.
  8. The "system" isn't much different than it has been in the past. The current method just replaces the Type A FA classification that they had previously which also required the signing team to lose it's first round draft pick. The only real difference is you have to offer a qualifying offer instead of arbitration. Other than that it is pretty much the same. The form team takes the initial risk by making the qualifying offer (or offering arbitration). If the player accepts the team is on the hook for that 1 year salary. If the player declines, then he has to try to get the best deal that he can. The problem is that Lohse is an average pitcher that happened to string 2 really good years together. That doesn't change the fact that he is 34 years old with a career ERA of 4.45. The problem isn't the system. Lohse made the mistake of declining the offer. Cleveland is probably the only team that would sign him before the draft as they would only have to give up a 3rd rounder.
  9. No there isn't. In fact 3 of the 9 players that declined the qualifying offer re-signed with their former team.
  10. You can go here to find out what channel FSN+ is for you TV provider: FOX Sports North PLUS channel As you can see with some providers the channel is available all the time while for others it is only there for the event.
  11. This. He didn't have any issues in October and November, but felt some discomfort while lifting weights in December and got it check out.
  12. True, but obviously other teams are not high on him either as he could've been taken in the rule V draft several times.
  13. This makes sense. Gibson has pitched in 4 games this spring and hasn't gone more than 2 innings per outing while the other starters are at 4+IP at the same point. It's obvious that he hasn't been getting stretched out to be ready to go by opening day. Also his last couple of outings have been pretty lackluster.
  14. Only if he is added to the 40-man roster and then DFA'd. He is currently not on the 40-man roster and was re-signed by the Twins to minor league contract.
  15. True, they have to weigh the value of seeing a player more to the risk of possibly losing a year of service to to injury.
  16. Well, my prediction was pretty close. I didn't have Herrmann and I had Hernandez instead of May. For some reason I didn't think May was on the 40-man.
  17. Bremer or Provus mentioned that they reassigned Meyer so early was so that he could get opportunities to start which he hasn't been getting at big league camp.
  18. First, that is way too much to give for Pressly. 2nd he would have to clear waivers before being a trade could be made and with how he has performed it is doubtful that would happen.
  19. I here you. Cliff Lee is starting for the Phillies and Buchholtz for Boston. Of course, most of the potential regulars are starting the home game against boston and the scrubs traveled to play against Philly.
  20. Correia is starting against Boston and Gibson against Philly.
  21. He definitely won't be in the first round of cuts since he is playing for Italy in the WBC.
  22. I guarantee he starts in Rochester because it is easier to have him start while limiting his innings in Rochester than in Minnesota. In MN if they take him out after 4-5 innings it taxes and puts a burden on the BP. I have him only starting in MN as a replacement for Pelfrey as that would be a temporary appointment. He would get sent down once Pelfrey or Diamond is ready to go. And De Vries would probably get sent down once the other is ready. Neither Hendricks nor De Vries has anything to prove in AAA. Hendricks needs the chance to show that he can be a MLB pitcher and De Vries needs the chance to show that 2012 wasn't a fluke. I believe that right now that De Vries is the 6th man in the rotation. He is going to be the 1st man called up to fill in due to injury or ineptness.
  23. With Minor League Camp opening, the Twins plan to make their first round of cuts after the split squad game on Thursday. Typically the first round of cuts includes many on the 40 man that definitely won't make the 25-man to protect the team from wasting service time in case a player gets injured. I believe the following players will be amongst those first cut: Pitchers: Hermsen, Hernandez and Tonkin. Catchers: Pinto Infielders: Santana I believe they'll keep Thielbar and Robertson around a little longer to compete for the LH Middle Relief role. And Swarzak, Roenicke and Wood are all out of options so they'll keep them around for a while yet. They might keep Pinto around with Mauer and Butera at the WBC, but with Escobar and Clement being trained for emergency catch they might send him down and leave the primary duties to Doumit and Herrmann. At this point Santana is the only infielder that is definitely not going to make the roster at this point. If Arcia had been playing the first 2 weeks he might have been re-assigned as well, but since he has yet to see game action they might keep him around for another week to see him play. Who do you think will be among the 1st cuts?
  24. Right Now the only locks for the rotation are Worley and Correia. Pelfrey has looked good and if he doesn't have any setbacks he should make it. Diamond hasn't thrown a pitch yet and he may end up starting the season on the DL/EST for rehab assignment for the first 2 weeks of the season. I almost guarantee that Gibson will start in Rochester unless he has to fill in for Pelfrey. That leaves De Vries and Hendricks as the last 2 starters coming out of ST.
  25. Both Ryan and Gardy have stated that where ever Gibson ends up he will be a starter. He has never pitched out of the bullpen in his career. They want to be able to maintain his routine as a starter and build up arm strength.
