  1. to comment... I think the Twins are very serious about Darvish. In that, I agree with Nick. I'm certain that the big bidders aren't in the market this offseason, which is why the FA market has been sooooooooooooooooooooo cold. I'm not certain that Darvish is very serious about the Twins. I do think that Darvish's agent is smart enough to make sure that the Twins are in it to the end, if for no other reason than to maximize the return, but it would be nice to hear something. Usually by now, the top FA SPs are all signed and we are looking at the scraps. It's not so much this season, so who knows how it shakes out.
  2. I don't think it's quite like that. Fallout will be low because it's he said/she said with no witnesses, hospital information, or bullet holes. This isn't the NFL. He may get a token suspension, but I doubt he gets the 30 games Chapman got.
  3. I'm trying to figure out where the wide reporting of him being floated in trade talks came from. Not remembering this one. He was always untouchable.
  4. wonder if the SP market is cold because no teams want to commit to more than 4 years.
  5. They have so many guys worth watching now... and that's pretty awesome. Offhand: Tyler and Lachlan Wells, Jose Miranda, Akil Badoo, Wander Javier, Luis Arraez, Jermaine Palacios, Blankenhorn, etc... lots of young guys (who if they figure it out), will have high ceilings.
  6. I think most of us were disappointed after day 1... Day 2 though showed what they were doing. I'm guessing the drop off between a guy like Wright to Lewis (not to mention the increase in risk going with Wright) and getting Enlow, Leach, and Bechtold was worth it.
  7. Not sure this is illogical at all. IFFs count into launch angle, and inflate it. He's popping up a lot and by proxy likely hitting into the ground a lot too. Tells me his contact isn't where it needs to be, and the low BABIP supports that. I don't think that means the end for Kepler, but it certainly says he has things to work on. Hopefully it's just a seasoning thing.
  8. I'm not sure I buy the defensive regression. He seemed to be the victim of the occasional boneheaded play, but that's a far cry from being a poor defensive OF. Defensive metrics are not very good, for one, but there's also evidence that one fielder gets punished when you have two other very good defensive OFs. Rosario can play CF, so his problem certainly isn't range. Back to Eddie, he was one of the big reasons we made the playoffs. Given his age, it's not unreasonable for him to make a step forward... and he was well above average for mlb last year.
  9. this is exactly what you need to do. Each blog automatically gets a thread in the forums like an article. It can be promoted to the front page at the owners discretion. Second idea... create a short stories forum where writers can write something else for others entertainment. Gaming forums do this on occasion.
  10. They have to do something. I'm not sure if Archer will cost as much as some are suggesting here, but he's going to be pricey. I've seen enough on Cole's cost that I'm not too excited about that option either given that his performance has never matched his reputation. I'd rather spend and get Darvish. I'd certainly trade for Archer for the right price, but if it's going to cost what's suggested here, I'd pass.
  11. Santana's case is interesting. I'm a bit disappointed that he's not making it to the next round. Kind of sad unfortunately. I think if Mauer can eclipse 2500 hits (good chance of that) there won't be much of a discussion. His time at C was special. If he can put a few more seasons like 2017, I think he's a lock.
  12. not in recent memory... then again, Tampa has always been more analytically focused
  13. Nah... this is how it would have ended. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yqVD0swvWU
  14. I don't understand the negativity here to be honest. Pineda would be one of the top names on the market if he was healthy. Yes, I understand TJS, but 2018 will also be the recovery year where players tend to struggle more with control. For a team that needs pitching, I think this is a really smart move. I get there's risk... but there always is with pitching and the reward/cost makes it very easy to cut bait in 2019 if needed. The one thing I do see in this signing is that the Twins are likely picking up only one starter this offseason.
  15. These are all nice things... it's counting on them that can be dangerous.
  16. yeah, I'd be OK with Rodney as a second option, but my big concern is the lack of primary options going into early 2018. Yeah, things could break right and Chargois, Curtiss, etc. step forward, but my fear is blowing a few games early on that are critical later in the season. And yes, they really need to get one more above average option in the rotation. That will probably help the pen as much as a solid reliever would.
  17. interesting piece. Guessing the FO sees more in him that we do. That's fine I guess. I will say that he's prone to having some monster games from time to time, so perhaps there's something there. I'd like those K numbers to be a bit better, but if can figure out away to harness those mechanics and get them, he could be a very good pitcher.
  18. You wanted wham? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izGwDsrQ1eQ
  19. For the record, I think you, myself, and chief are all on the same side (pretty sure we all want more than Rodney at this point)... but that isn't what you said there. I'm simply asking that we stop with the nebulous "many posters advocate some sort of straw man type argument" and respond to actual comments. Nothing good comes from that.
  20. This would be fine as a second RP. I didn't realize his peripherals were still this good at his age, so I guess I'll give him more of a pass there, but if this is it in the pen, color me disappointed. I wasn't a fan of Kintzler in that role, but to be fair, Rodney has better peripherals, so maybe there's something there... but on the other side, he's older... and well, we need a much younger sure thing. Just not a fan of signing anyone to this team that is older than me. No go get Darvish or Lynn and another solid RP and I'll be happy.
  21. Which threads exactly are entire threads on not spending 6M on an RP? I'm legitimately curious. Look, I get that there people who don't want to do that, and that is fine. It's their right, and they are entitled to that opinion... But it's statements like that, which are blatantly untrue, that just invite lots of needless bickering. Let's try and stick to actual talking points instead of stereotypical ones that ignore what everyone is saying... thanks.
  22. This would be fine, though I'd rather get a bit better than Kintzler... nothing against the guy, but I'd prefer someone a bit younger with better peripherals. I get that Molitor would use him as the closer, which I suppose saves the better bullets for the 7th and 8th, but I'd rather just get a better reliever.
  23. Saw this on MLBTR.... love that they are talking. Nice sexy K, BB, and WHIP rates. Not sure how hard he throws, but this the type of reliever I'd like to see join the org.
