  1. I guess the first concern I have about this is that you ignore the successes that these folks have. I do agree that the org needs new blood, but fire for the sake of firing is not a good thing either. Smith did bring some value to the org, just not as a GM. Putting a guy like that back in a position to which they were competent in is not bad practice. Bad practice is firing a competent guy b/c he/she was part of the old regime, not due to the quality of his/her work. No doubt, things need to change in the org, but believe it or not, they can get worse.
  2. This is the bigger issue. Not quite sure how Antony is at identifying MILB talent. If he lets his scouts/analytics guys do it, then i'd say by all means go and sell. But I have to think this was a clear sell indicator. Ryan has never been one to do that when he's forced to. He handles trades well when someone else's hand is forced. The real concern to me at last is that we end up with more WTF moments like Capps for Ramos or Hardy for Hoey. I think in the end, just collecting the best talent given is probably the best strategy, but for guys like Dozier, Suzuki and possibly Santana/Nunez, I'd want specific types of talents.
  3. These types of statements really make me wonder whether our expectations are realistic. Escobar's .774 OPS along with average to above defense makes him a pretty valuable commodity at short. League average SS are much worse than that. As for Nunez, he's a utility guy, and as one he's quite valuable as he can spell 2b,3b, and SS keeping an above average bat in the lineup or providing one off the bench. Not saying I wouldn't trade him for the right offer, but I don't think the team's problem lies up the middle (except that they do need to find a spot for Polanco).
  4. That's already being done. MLB is being sued by a bunch of ex-minor leaguers. Not quite sure where it has gone.
  5. If you were in Fort Wayne, you really needed to head up north and get some wings at Checkerz... You missed out there.
  6. I was looking more at his June numbers (279/.346/.456). Didn't realize he dropped off the planet again in July.
  7. Murphy, BTW, has come on strong of late. Not sure what was going on earlier this season, but he seems to have figured things out (at least in a SSS capacity).
  8. I don't think we had a great offer on the table 2 years ago, but based on what Nick just posted, we can ask for (and get) something nice... I'd trade him.
  9. Yeah, the upside is there. Definitely need to see continued improvements in the K category. He's taken a nice step forward this season. He needs to take another one next season.
  10. Lots of these examples of guys who did better elsewhere didn't do so right away. Individually, you look at that and simply note it. Collectively though, at one point you start to wonder. I don't think the Twins problems is drafting. They seem to get some decent talent and the fact that guys can come here and then flourish elsewhere tells me the problem isn't talent. There does however seem to be a much bigger issue with development, whether that be bringing hitters up too quick (Gomez, Buxton, Hicks, Vargas, Arcia), never really letting pitchers get comfortable (Meyer, Berrios, Chargois), or simply not preparing them or teaching them good fundamental baseball... who knows.
  11. I guess I just don't see his name around here that much. Not really trying to slam anyone by that. Got to meet in ST with you. Seems like a nice kid. I do hope he hits AAA soon.
  12. Yeah, he's been one of the unsung RP guys around here. Not sure how hard he throws, but he's gotten the results each step of the way.
  13. seriously? He's got to be able to deal with that kind of stuff. It's part of the growing process. He was probably in that long b/c at first he didn't look weak and at some point he just needs to get his work in. I have no issue with it. Neither should anyone.
  14. Polanco's first option year was in high A as he had to be in order to not be exposed to the rule V draft. His second was in AA. He was optioned again last year in AAA (and wasn't very good), but he seems to be much better this year. I'm not sure his options management has been bad (and that comes from someone who has actively criticized said management of Arcia, Berrios, and Buxton). The bigger issue I have right now is that he seems to have figured it out and needs to have playing time. I'll be honest in that when I saw him this spring, he didn't look good, but quite frankly, as bad as this team has been, I don't see where keeping BD (baring a situation where no one offers anything of value) for 2017 and 2018 makes much sense when you have a much younger and longer cost controlled option that should be above average and could be a diamond in the rough. I certainly could be wrong, but I don't see the Twins being terribly competitive in 2017, not while we continue to keep the likes of Nolasco, Hughes, and Milone in the rotation at least and DFA potential cornerstone pieces such as Arcia. That makes holding on to BD rather strange given that the contract he signed was structured in a way to allow him to test the market. Losing Polanco for 2 years of BD (even if they are elite) in what will amount to likely one more losing season only to lose BD to FA would be wrong.
  15. The only issue I have with not trading Dozier is that Polanco is out of options next year and he's a prime candidate to be Arcia'd. I don't know if he will ever be as good as BD, but what I can say is that the potential is there for him to be an above average 2B both offensively and defensively. If Dozier can net a really nice prospect while allowing you to play Polanco, I think you do it. I do agree though that he shouldn't be traded for nothing. Same goes with Santana. I'd rather trade Nolasco/Milone for nothing (or just DFA them both if there are no takers) then part with Santana for a meager return.. Now again, if someone wants to pay something nice, then by all means, let's do it.
  16. I'd trade Nolasco and Milone for nothing or just DFA them for the young guys... not quite as sure about Santana to be honest. I think I'd want a decent prospect for him. In this area, I think Ryan would be right to not give him up. Santana can pitch like #2 for long stretches. Of course on the other hand his elbow is a TJS surgery waiting to happen given that he's one of the few that successfully rehabbed that one.
  17. If Thorpe had pitched at this point, I think he'd be a tougher decision. As it is now, I have a tough time believing a guy who has only seen low A would be able to stick somewhere... speaking of things that need to be fixed... There's no reason why it is we should have to consider adding him at that point. International FAs signed under 18 ought to have more years before they are required to be protected.
  18. Hmm... I'm in Leigh Valley tonight... of course, I really want to see Meyer or Berrios...
  19. yeah, under no circumstances should guys like Jorge be danged. Looks like a pretty decent pitching prospect.
  20. My choices would be Plouffe, Dozier, Suzuki, Abad, Nolasco, and Boshers. I'd be happy if they traded off half of those guys, and ecstatic if they traded off more.
  21. Depends on which rapper he hit and how hard.
  22. I'd rather not bring back contraction thank you very much.
  23. Honestly, I'd think Beresford would get a shot ahead of him if there's a 40 man add.
  24. fyi, mixed up SLG/OPS in Palka's numbers.... Speaking of Palka... wow... that's some dominance. Nice to see Kirilloff getting off to a good start. Hope that continues.
