  1. Striking out 37% of the time with RISP is not bad luck. Hitting a line drive at the third baseman is bad luck. According to my info the Twins were last in the AL in on base % last year. The lead off hitter was at .307! And it's not getting any better. There are going to be a lot of solo HR's. I said in a different post, guys don't ramp up in pressure situations, but some do calm down more than others. That to me is the real definition of "clutch".
  2. To me this isn't about the six games, or the six losses. Those streaks happen to every team. It's about the appearance that all the questionable issues raised prior to the season, could be true. SP still low on SO, and innings pitched. BP is suspect. Perkins is struggling. Record or not, the SO numbers are gonna be insane. Nothing Sano in RF or Park with the bat have done so far, are cause for optimism. Neither issue is a lost cause, but success will be awhile arriving, if it does. Slumps are slumps, but some of these troubling issues are not going to go away. That's to me a bigger problem than the 6 losses. And if they continue, how the FO reacts will determine this teams future. I still maintain that last May, was and will remain a curse to the development of this team.
  3. Is there any truth to the rumor that Chief is your bunting coach?
  4. Or how much of it is the players you are handed. If the FO made a conscious decision to stack the roster with high SO rate players, there is no reason for surprise, or for that matter to change the hitting coach. He can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear. And he doesn't parcel out playing time. He has no actual leverage at all. Take Dozier for example, in ST, he seemed to work on, and be successful taking the outside pitch to RF. So far, and it's early, he has reverted to jerking almost everything. I am not calling for the benching of a Dozier after five games. But, the bottom line is the only leverage an assistant coach has is meted out by the manager. It has to be a collaborative effort.
  5. How old was Lance? I doubt he was a 23 yr old prospect?
  6. Our worst, against their best. If this is to be 2015 Part 2, then we win easily today.
  7. I more or less concur, except for the playing time part. I think a lot of GM tell field staff who they want on the field. Not necessarily setting the lineup, but the manager is made fully aware of his bosses choices. They don't HAVE to send anyone down, but I am kinda intrigued by how this plays out. As Sgt. Schultz would have said, "Verrrrry interesting"
  8. This is not meant to be critical, but TR continues to amaze. I would have bet an all expense paid trip to the Chipotle nearest you that Kepler was not the one. Since it is an avowed policy not to sit a promising prospect on the bench, who sits? And what of the service time clock? He can't be past that mark yet. Since Santana was a sub, I truly expected Mastro. Again, I am not critical, it's an aggressive move. Just confused.
  9. I just had that with some fried rice and cheese wontons last night, delicious!
  10. If you open the garage door every time someone's says "Sano looks really athletic out there", you will likely survive..... Whoops, my bad, he isn't playing tonight!
  11. Meaning Gordon is super quick??
  12. So if you have great hitters, and all could hit first, does that mean the other 8 should all hit 9th? Math always confuses me!
  13. Mike was having the same problem early in the week. I sent him a helpful hint.
  14. Now I am confused? . So they had an abundance of starters, and a need at the back end of the bullpen? And I agree with those two statements. But others have pointed out to me that Ryan said he was in long relief? More confusion. I can see the value of him at the very end of the pen (8th), enough that a legitimate argument can be made that on THIS roster he belongs there. But as a long man? Hmmm, more confusion!
  15. Well then both parts of my post are relevant! Lol I was wrong, I hate when that happens, and while I could understand, and see where he could be a shutdown style RP, I think it's a waste for him to be in the pen. IMHO
  16. I may be wrong, of course it would be a first. . But it was my understanding that the reason for May going to the pen was the need for a guy with shutdown, SO abilities? That is not the long man role. But I might have misconstued Mr. Ryans intent. If I did, I humbly apologize, and I'll put myself on a 30 day fast of dry bread and Coors Light. On a more serious note, if I am not wrong, and they stuck him out there to pitch "behind in the game" hold em innings, and get him out of the way of our talented SP, then as Ole would say "Vee gott a hole new ball game"
  17. I would reverse that percentage, but for the same reasons you gave. Molly has to deal with this roster. That said, Molly has not yet shined in his decisions. Maybe it's cause Pohlad just told us he will be the manager as long as he wishes? . As for Oswaldo, I do think there was an opportunity in the Baltimore series to bat off a RHRP, but not in the ninth. Bottom line, if you are not going to use him, or don't think he can do the job, you now have a 24 man roster.
  18. The Arcia thing is a little strange. A LH bat, who has to be there as a PH, has not hit in 4 close losses. It's fine if your organizational theory excludes PH'ers. But then don't carry one on your roster. I don't know if they are treading water waiting for a trade opportunity, but he isn't going to play here, barring an injury.
  19. Calling Dave, calling Dave, you out there Dave?.............
  20. Are you seriously suggesting that what Terry says, is not the same as what Ryan does?
  21. Yes, because if the run doesn't score, and their OF is pretty good, the game is over. Always live to play another day.
  22. I easily admit I am not a stat head. So I am sure there are numbers that will support/refute this. I never thought that some guys could hit "better" in RBI situations, but that some hit worse. It's not the amping yourself up, it's the calming yourself down. Like the guy who hits the shot at the end of a basketball game, some guys are calm and shoot in their natural motion, some can't hardly let go of the ball. You can't will yourself to exceed your ability, but you can calm yourself to match it.
  23. The Twins lenghtly list of fly ball pitchers will be able to attest to that.
  24. I think Dozier puts too much pressure on himself when he perceives responsibility. Last year when they tried him in the middle of the order, his numbers suffered. This year he has been labeled the team leader (?) and possibly is stressing to be able to wear that mantle? Some will think this is psyco babble, but different players respond to responsibility in different ways. It's early, time will tell, but there is some previous history there.
