  1. We don't have anyone - today - that has #1/2 potential but that's somewhat rare. Berrios was our last guy with that kind of ceiling and a lot of people had him pegged as more a #3 type. But Gonsalves, Romero, Stewart and Jay were all on somebody's top 100 list just this offseason. And even with Jay moving to the pen, they still have some upside there (plus Thorpe and some pretty young arms in the low minors that are too far away today). I'm bummed that Jay is being moved but at the same time I think the angst is a bit overblown. We know that not every draft pick will reach it's ceiling although we don't know which ones won't.
  2. Yeah, that's one worry I had. I wonder if it's just the player and his agent pushing something that gets him to the majors faster or if the FO really thinks the payoff for him being a reliever over the risk of trying to make him a starter is worth it.
  3. I like the idea of Vargas starting in AAA and letting the DH position move around a bit, with Grossman getting some platoon time there. Eventually, I think Park gets put back on the 40 man.
  4. The obvious reason they drafted Jay was that they thought he could make the transition to the rotation, as did many draft gurus.
  5. Anyone else watching the Congressional testimony this morning? GOP is more interested in leaks than Russian influence. This is a pretty fun twitter to follow at the same time . https://twitter.com/20committee
  6. Meh, you've seen it elsewhere.
  7. I'm not sure this is particularly insightful considering the last ten years covers a large group of prospects still in the minors and most of those were the high draft picks. I do agree that the Johnson drafts have been bad - particularly the stretch from 08-11 - but it's a bit early to really make any final decision (as you have) on, frankly, 2012 forward.
  8. Yeah, I don't think 13 pitches/inning is anything to worry about.
  9. The Pohlad's aren't going to spend big in free agency. Until they do it once, I don't think we should give them the benefit of the doubt that they'll do it. The new FO - particularly Falvey - come from orgs that didn't really rely on free agency. It's not a surprise that the Twins wanted that in their FO. Our bigger worry is that they won't pony up the money to keep these young position players around in a few years.
  10. I don't know much about Ghost although I understand it has some big fans. -shrug- I like Scarlett Johansson, she's a good actress, she's pretty. And she's better at action films than I would have guessed so I'm sure I'll see it, although probably not in the theater.
  11. Keep in mind, Trump's approval rating has stayed in the low 40s and high 30s. He's incredibly unpopular. And, while some mouth breathers will always stand by him, he doesn't have that much capital. The sane® GOP will abandon him fairly soon.
  12. Rios played in a better offensive environment but he had a 118 OPS+ for his age 25-27 seasons. I think Rosario's ceiling if it all comes together could be in that neighborhood. Rosario can pick up a lot of WAR on his base running and defense as well. So it's not a horrible comparison, I suppose.
  13. Let's hope so. I don't think he needs to walk a ton but he does need to have better selectivity on what he does swing at. If he can force the other team to throw strikes, he has enough natural talent to be a high average/high pop hitter. But his rookie season is his ceiling if he can't improve that.
  14. The casting of Belle was a mistake but I'm going to take my daughter. She's pretty excited.
  15. Kong looks horrible. We just saw the Ghostbusters remake. I really wanted to like it (and it had a few good parts) but it was pretty bad.
  16. Yeah, that's my guess. I honestly think Kepler replaces Mauer at first in a few years and they move Rosario to RF.
  17. Man, I hope Eddie puts it all together this year.
  18. Nice write up on Bukauskus. I don't want him at 1-1 but he could end up being the best college pitcher in the draft. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2017/3/12/14899716/2017-mlb-draft-profile-unc-rhp-j-b-bukauskus
  19. Well, I hope Castro really helps our pitchers. Should be interesting to see if Gibson, especially, gets some low strikes.
  20. Nice to hear about Berrios. 62 pitches for five innings is pretty good.
  21. Man, that sucks.
  22. You have much more faith than I. The only significant payroll push the Pohlads have allowed was basically Mauer's huge contract with the tax funded Target Field. Probably not a coincidence. Payroll might get to 120 but there's no way the Pohlad's are going to give Sano and Buxton Mauer-like money (if they earn it).
  23. Wait, I thought 2015 was nothing but luck. Regardless, I think marcos is a bit right. The 2011 injury train, plus Young and Liriano stalling out, had pretty big impact on this team. As you and others have pointed out, the Twins didn't have a strong farm system (for a variety of reasons) to make up for much. Injuries to Mauer, Morneau and Nathan - who combined for about a third of the payroll didn't make things easier. But I'm not sure the Twins should be blamed for not trading Liriano after the 2010 season, for instance, even though he probably would have gotten a pretty big return.
