  1. I missed the game. Why was Berrios pulled with only 84 pitches?
  2. Updated prospect order from fangraphs duo. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/updated-2018-mlb-draft-rankings/ There are a lot of prep arms in the, say, 10-30 range that will probably get shuffled around a lot depending on price tag and how teams' scouts view them. The draft seems pitching heavy but a guy like Brice Turang, a plus defender at short with a bat that needs work, could also be the type of player the Twins target if they think his bat will come along. Their rankings go 55 deep and the Twins second pick is #59 so a few of these guys might end up available then, too.
  3. I wish the people in our federal government could feel shame over what they aren't doing to help Puerto Rico. This is a disgrace.
  4. I didn't want to lose but Lindor is really something. Probably my favorite non-Twin at this point. Also, my early season prediction that Cleveland would be bad this year is probably not going to be true. Let's hope Berrios is dominant tonight.
  5. The posts that I had problems with stated that Sano was lazy/didn't have a good work ethic. People responded why they didn't think Sano was lazy (hard work to rehab TJ surgery, quick to majors, improvement over "down" year, to all-star, etc). Then posters asked why the OP said he thought Sano was lazy and it was because he was smiling during batting practice and getting by on his natural talent, I believe he also said something to the effect that he wasn't able to work hard like Jim Thome did. Essentially, when there have been some questionable posts, I think most of us have given people the benefit of the doubt and asked them to explain why they did things a certain way. No one has jumped at anyone and said "that's racist!" Ted, the author of the Rosario thread that started this, did a good job of explaining his thinking. But some haven't been able to give good reasons and I think we've seen a lot of that in the Sano thread. I do think that there is a difference between someone saying "hey, Sano is lazy and getting by on natural talent b/c he's smiling at batting practice" and someone else saying, "ugh, those are all unsupported accusations and several of them touch on ugly racial stereotypes."
  6. I'll have to work on my writing comprehension then.
  7. I think he gets in fairly easily - maybe not first ballot but he won't wait long.
  8. You missed the point, perhaps re-read my post? The bolder first sentence was meant to suggest that you thought that I and others thought that any criticism of players of color was racist. The criticism Rosario was getting (as well as posts about Sano and Buxton that have been here at TD) walked a pretty fine line toward racist stereotypes of players of color. It's fair to point that out.
  9. Speaking of Trump, I thought this was funny.
  10. If Fox had any standards, Hannity would be suspended for that stunt but they'll just say he's not a journalist and therefore doesn't have to obey any journalistic standards. They'll stick with him until the profits go away and then they'll cut bait with him just like they did with O'Reilly.
  11. You're suggesting that any criticism of a player of color must be racist. That's not true. There are many valid ways to make legitimate criticisms of Sano or Rosario or Buxton. But it's not fine with the criticisms broach on ugly racial stereotypes rather than a legitimate reason. We've had a lot of posts that suggest Sano is lazy, lacks a work ethic and gets by on his natural talent. Rosario doesn't hustle was what started this thread. Last year, a poster literally said that he didn't think Buxton was smart enough to adjust to ML pitchers. Those sort of posts are worth calling out.
  12. A couple encouraging starts for Stewart. Nice to see. Rooker and Baddoo are struggling a bit more than I thought they would although the season is still pretty young.
  13. We also now have an ongoing thread where people are suggesting that Sano doesn't have the work ethic to be better and is getting by on talent. Ugh.
  14. Gad, another DL trip for Jay? I mean, he's got the stuff from the scouting reports but, jeez, the guy can't stay on the field.
  15. I guess this is it's own thread but I just don't see that. When he retires the "old" voters will appreciate the batting titles and MVP while the "new" voters will care about his WAR. I'm also not sure Calcetta's arguments about local support are fair. Sure, Mauer got some crap from time to time but he's still extremely well liked and has generally been treated pretty nicely over the years to the point that we're still complaining about a Souhan piece from six years ago that was (mostly) fair.
  16. While the Twins moved payroll some, it really wasn't that much in comparison to the league. Last year, they were about 21st in payroll, this year they are 18th (although I'll guess that insurance took some of the hit for Hughes last year and probably will again this year). And the Pohlads were very much the reason we went cheap and started trading off high priced contracts and stars in the 1990s. The financial landscape of baseball changed at that point and the Pohlads ran for the lowest rung. In 2001, Carl Pohlad said it was important to keep bonuses low for the guys we draft.
  17. If he's good this year, I think we'll bring him back on a 2/24mish deal. It's a little more than he might get on the market but he's the face of the franchise so he'll get a bit more. Right now with both Rooker and LoMo looking rough I'm not sure the Twins can move off a high onbase guy.
  18. I've never gotten that impression. He missed all of 2014 and worked hard to make the majors in 2015. He "struggled" a bit in 2016 and responded with a better 2017, increasing all of his rate stats. He seems to have worked hard enough to start the season decently with the bat this year. I dunno, you seem to see things differently than I do.
  19. Sano will be fine. He's a hitting savant. If he can stay healthy, he has the ability to hit .280, take a walk and potentially lead the league in home runs. He does need to cut the strike outs a bit but he can do that, just like Rosario has done. Sano hits the ball so hard his babip is incredibly high - .365 for his career. He's not going to strike out 40% of the time. I don't know enough about plate discipline stats but from the games I've seen, he's been rung up a few times by the umps on pitches down and away that statcast doesn't think are strikes. I'm not sure if that's just a few observations that I've seen that don't mean much of if umpires are trying to send a message to the young kid or somewhere in between but he'll figure it out.
  20. That was fun to watch. Mauer's having a nice late career run here these last two seasons. That's probably enough to get him in the HOF. Berrios has really looked good since last year. Let's just keep that going. Not worried about Sano and Buxton, they'll get there.
  21. Yeah, this midterm election is going to be huge but I really think we'll see a blue wave unless the Dems somehow manage to **** it up. (That's not an impossibility but so far they seem to be set well). I really do think that the investigations are going to find something in those finances. I don't give a lot of weight to Wolff's book but the comments by Bannon about Kushner ring pretty true. There's probably something there.
  22. Well, Gunnarthor wants Gunnar Hogland. That said, a guy like Jordyn Adams seems to be the traditional toolsy type OF prospect that the Twins have a lot of history taking and McDaniel mentioned both Buxton and Lewis when describing him. Lastly, in my first post in this thread I thought the Twins might take a prep guy like Denaburg and he certainly seems like he could be there at 20.
