  1. I like the trade since Vargas wasn't part of our future but man, we certainly are collecting LH OFers. I agree with others that our AAA OF should be pretty good but I'm not seeing how they move unless we're trading Kepler or Rosario sometime.
  2. Yep. Broken legs aren't really suggestive of future injury. He'll be really good this year.
  3. Thanks Bird. Six Twins on it and with his top 20 Twins (here) you can see where he ranks the other guys. I'm probably most surprised by his ranking of Romero that low. I like Romero a lot but most prospect guys - except Klaw? - are lower on him than I think he deserves.
  4. I'm really excited for most post-season games won in TF record to be broken by Berrios.
  5. I disagree with this point. It's absolutely no fun to watch ****ty baseball. What is happening is that teams like the Marlins and Astros were so bad that fans literally went away and may come back if they get good (and they didn't come back right away). The revenue streams baseball has created has rewarded teams for doing this but it's not good for baseball and the fans hate it. The idea that the White Sox, Royals, Tigers, M's, A's and Orioles can all tank and become good right away is flawed. Tanking is a dumb idea in baseball b/c the draft isn't a sure thing. Trading off your solid vets only works if other teams are willing to trade their prospects back but if all teams are tanking, then no prospects get moved - as Baltimore saw when they couldn't get a king's ransom for Machado who is arguably one of the five best position players in the AL. The Rays couldn't get a good offer for Archer. A team might still be able to get something for a Chris Sale type but most rebuilding teams don't have him. What tanking allows is for owners to pocket more money instead of sharing that revenue with the players. Fans should abhor this.
  6. This offseason was an obvious attempt by owners to lower contracts in free agency to keep prices down next year. We'll see if it works.
  7. I think a Castro/Garver platoon - if Molly actually does it - is a good idea. My concern is that he'll give Garver a lot of at-bats against RHP and sit him for LHP.
  8. I'm not sure Gonsalves is quite a fair comp here. Gonsalves started the year with shoulder soreness and didn't pitch until the end of May. Gonsalves and Romero are also different stuff-wise. Romero is the better pitcher who might move more rapidly (like Berrios). I'm not convinced that Gonsalves will make the majors ahead of Romero despite being at AAA.
  9. I'm ok with his ranking today but he could also be a huge jump guy next year. mlb.com didn't have Baddoo on their list last year and now he's top 10. I could see Severino jumping into the top 15 with a solid year.
  10. I don't really have a problem with it. Many teams, including the Twins, have had arms jump from AA to the majors. AAA isn't that important for pitchers. Right now it's just a numbers crunch but Romero will (probably) make the majors this year anyway.
  11. I like this. AA will be really interesting to watch. I hope Stewart can fix his career. Thorpe and Romero have some pretty high ceilings. I don't think either are really blocked by AAA guys - they can move Jorge to AA if needed, for example. I imagine that May will go to the AAA rotation when he's healthy.
  12. Looks like we signed Cousins. https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/03/13/kirk-cousins-free-agency-news-updates-vikings Seems like a good idea for this team. Wonder how it'll blow up.
  13. I think the Morrison signing was the FO's way to hedge on Mauer. He might be back but if I had to bet on it today, I think Morrison is our starting first baseman next year and Mauer is out.
  14. If you're talking about his second term with us, the only big pieces Ryan had were Span (traded for Meyer), possibly Perkins (signed team friendly deal instead) and maybe Dozier after 2014 season? He didn't have a Shark to trade. He moved pretty much every single vet. If you're talking about his initial run, he made lots of moves like that (or kept the player for draft comps). And I think you're a bit harsh on the Twins. They were more or less competitive for a decade and then had a season from hell in 2011 when injuries destroyed them (only three players had more than 370 at-bats for the team). Ryan more or less gave it one more shot with the same group in 2012 and then started the rebuild. They were in full rebuild mode in 2013-2014 and competitive in 2015 (in the WC hunt to the last series of the year). That's not that long of a rebuild for this market size. 2016 was the crazy season.
  15. Of course not. Vargas isn't a third baseman. Sano, on the other hand, is. And he's played there, fairly well defensively, so far in his career.
  16. I'm sure this thread will turn ugly but I'm not sure it needs to. I'm not as high on the new FO as much as others (although I like Levine more than Falvey) but there isn't really a need to say one of the other. Ryan did a wonderful job creating a system that kept a small market team in contention for basically a decade. That's a heck of an achievement. Ryan also took over in the mid-90s with no real financial support from ownership but was given a heck of a lot of rope - it took him a while to become a good GM. The new FO is in a completely different situation. They were given a great group of young talent and a bit more willingness to spend. On the other hand, they won't get five or six years to learn on the job. I suspect that the new FO will more or less work on the Ryan model with minor tinkering. They aren't going to sign a Darvish but they'll look to make bargain FA deals. They'll build from within and hoard their own prospects. They'll try and nab talent through rule v and take flyers on certain guys. It'll be interesting to see how much of this nucleus the team gets to keep or if they can create a system that continues to replenish like Ryan did.
  17. I like Wade a lot as a future 4th OF type. He and Granite are both solid 4th OF behind our main three guys. Grossman can do spot duty day to day but if Buxton, Kepler or Rosario go down for a DL trip, I'd expect Granite to jump in there. Those main three guys are all under team control for four years and while they have some question marks, could be a pretty stable OF for the next few years. No need to replace any of them. As to the future, Rooker might get a bit of time in the OF but probably won't be an asset out there. And in the low minors the Twins have a glut of major OF talent - Kiriloff, Lewis (if he doesn't stick at short), Baddoo could all be above average regulars.
  18. https://sports.yahoo.com/ron-gardenhire-opens-1983-baseball-205049737.html Fun little thing.
  19. Here's the video of Sano yesterday. https://www.mlb.com/video/sanos-rbi-single/c-1885330183?tid=69972428 He's a bid guy but I'm not sure he's hugely over weight. He doesn't look like the Panda from a few years ago, at least.
  20. Jeez, he's our most dangerous offensive weapon. He could lead the league in homers. He was a legit all-star last year who played on a broken leg for a bit before going down. He held his own at third last year. The FO signed Morrison so they don't seem to worried about him not playing third. Despite the rumors of his weight, he's looked good so far in ST, he's crushing the ball (OPS over 1.100). Maybe we should wait with the pitchforks until he's actually failing? He'll be fine. He'll be an all-star again this year and finish top five in home runs. He's a freaking stud.
  21. Hughes doesn't have to accept a trip to AAA. If he doesn't, he'd be released and the Twins would still owe him the remainder of his contract. Other teams could get him for league minimum.
  22. I actually think Cleveland is due a rough season. They've had two straight killer post-seasons. They lost their emotional leader. Their rotation was pretty healthy last year (only used 7 starters).
  23. Santana will start on the DL so even if health for everyone else remains ok, one of them could make the rotation with a good spring. Sanchez can also be released. Hughes could be a longman or the Twins could just eat his salary. Just let spring play out.
  24. Holy crap. 1/12? Owners are sure winning this collusion war.
