This game was exact thing I was worried about. Twins have had a few bad games they should have and easily could have won if they did not make so many mistakes. Sure game may have played out different, but we gave them both runs in the first inning on bad defense. The wild pitches and passed balls moved runners up, the bad throw from Kepler, a good throw may have got runner and no one scores, finally no play from Schoop. Mets made good plays throughout the game and we lose by 1 with bases loaded. These are tough games to watch when you are trying to make playoffs.

Article: Series Preview: Messing with the Mets
Trov replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
These are games the Twins need to play well. If we lose not a big deal, but if we play poorly that could be an issue heading into tougher competition later in home stand.- 12 replies

It is interesting to hear little tid bits about pitchers like Littel and Smeltzer having betters years under the new system the Twins have in place. I am wondering how much it will be similar to what Cleveland had when Falvey was there. May reports were Falvey had a lot to do with the pitching system they had in place. They managed to find many diamonds in the rough over the years. Here is to hoping Twins can do the same. There has been some good early results. It will also be interesting to see how many OF get traded. I know many talking Kiroloff is off limits, but why? He may be good hitter but he is not only one that can hit, and if we can get good starter controled through next year for him I say jump at it.

A Suggestion for the FO for The Trade Deadline
Trov commented on mike8791's blog entry in mike8791's Blog
To all the people thinking you can trade free agents to be for Thor you are all kidding yourselves. I could see possible of Sano in a deal, and Twins could do it and survive the season as he is not carrying the team at all, he is also still under control for a few years so Mets may think about him, but free agents to be for a non-contending team would only do it for money purposes. No way do Mets take on free agents to be in a thought it will make them more likely to sign them. -
Making the Stroman Deal for Minnesota
Trov commented on Ted Schwerzler 's blog entry in Off The Baggy
I like the idea of the Mets trade, but do not expect Catro in the deal. For two reasons, Mets would not want a guy at end of deal, they could sign him in offseason if they want, and Twins will be down to 1 catcher until the turtle comes back, which no time table is set.- 8 comments

If you can throw in Smith and we add one more mid to low level prospect I am all in. Think it is a bit of steep for a rental player that may more so be on name you are paying for. I am a fan of getting mad bum though because he is prove playoff tested, but he has some attitude issues that may not mesh well with the team, and bad attitudes can blow up teams.

Why Didn't the Twins Make a Trade Already?
Trov commented on Mike Sixel's blog entry in Mike Sixel's Blog
A few reasons no trades get done early. Many teams still trying to fight for playoff spot, but more of a reason is teams that will be selling want to wait so fans will still show up, but once you tell fans, hey we selling all our talent come watch some minor league baseball they will lose out on some ticket sales, and tv ratings. Also, buying teams will want to wait to see where they are at, and who are they competing with buying wise. Some people think buy early and you don't have to bid against others, but on other hand the later you wait the more you know who else is buying. So for example, right now several teams may be looking or at very least selling teams may be getting feelers, but as buyers dry up and turn into sellers the market opens up to be a buyers market. Also, if you have say 5 top 100 prospects and the other buying teams have 1 you may not have to give up as much to still out bid the other buying teams. The selling teams can hold out for now too, but as deadline comes closer they will start to see they may not get anything for pending FA and so they will sell for even less than they would right now. Not saying Twins should not make a deal sooner than later, just saying what is going on in GM heads. -
Article: Week in Review: Second Half Statement
Trov replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Schoop has very little value in a trade. 2nd base is never a position of need for most teams and unless they are huge offensive upside they will not demand much. If a contending team is looking to sell, who would want him? Up and coming teams would not want him as no control and would need to resign him anyways, something they could do in offseason if they wanted to. For contending teams not many would want to add him for the same reasons the Twins would deal him. Plus what we would get is not much to help this year. If he is dealt it would be to mid-level contending team that really needs something, and will give up at best a B level prospect. I predict he is either a throw in on a deal for money purposes, or he is released. His numbers are reminding me of Trevor Plouffe in his big seasons with Twins, kills fastballs in blow out situations, but when pitcher really trying to bear down and get him, he will strike out. The only thing he has is his ability to hit HR, but I will never want him up when need runs.- 29 replies

Gordon seems to be performing well, which over his career he seems to take awhile to adjust to a league. I wonder if Twins will give him time, or if another team will have interest in him. Not sure what he has shown defense wise, but sure a team will take him if he can play at SS, but if not his value drops a lot. With way other prospects are jumping Gordon he is expendable. I am still waiting on that Twins make trade with Giants headline. I hope by end of break we have 2 new pitchers 1 starter and 1 bullpen. Would take 3 players with 2 bullpen.

Worst part about the week, is that we easily could have been 6-0 on the week. The long 18 inning game we had many chances but kept hitting into DP. The first game in CHI we had big chance to get lead and another DP. Final game in CHI more late scoring chances that could not capitalize on. Earlier in the year we were getting all those clutch hits, seems to be equaling out a little bit now. I think the break is coming at a good time, and even though, I think a team with the best record should have more all-stars than a team with sub .500 record, it shows the balance the team has had. So many guys have been good, but not a ton have been great. Give these guys some rest, bring in a new bullpen arm or two and get ready for the second half.

Article: Luis Arráez: Hitting Machine
Trov replied to Mariana Guzman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A comp I was thinking of, not in style but story, is Jose Altuve. Both from Venezuela Arraez is a few inches taller but still considered shorter. Neither had much power young in career, both play 2nd base so prospect ranking lower. However, both hit a ton in minors for average and hit well when came up to majors at similar age. If he can have similar career path the Twins will love that. Altuve did not start hitting many HR until he was 26 and he plays half his games in a park known for HR. I do love watching the kid swing, he seems to always hit ball hard where ever it is pitched.- 32 replies

To me, this game and recent bullpen appearances is reminding me of last few years where they keep blowing leads over and over. In this case, it was a not a lead but if our pen could have kept it close and not imploded we win the game and the terrible defense would not have been an issue. Twins need to make moves now for bullpen help because the hot start they were on was not sustainable and now it is all crashing down. When was last time Parker had appearance without allowing a run? May last two is shaky at best and needed terrible call from ump to save other night. The only guy I trust is Rodgers and he cannot pitch every day.

Article: Giving Opponents Ls in Fort Myers
Trov replied to Steven Buhr's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I do agree his numbers are worse than last yer, however, there may be many factors leading to it. His K rate is the biggest concern. However, minor league numbers do not mean much and as long as team feels he is making correct adjustments to move forward that is what is important. I have not watched the games, but if he had even 10 possible hits taken away by good defense that makes a bit of a difference in the numbers posted. That is why K rate is my biggest concern.- 17 replies

Article: Craig Kimbrel and Risk Tolerance
Trov replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As much as I wanted Kimbrel, I can understand not wanting to invest a third year. His red flags were bright. Let us not forget that he has not faced a major league hitter for awhile. So many players that have sat half the season then try to come in have not worked out well. Kimbrel may also not have wanted to come as Twins have stayed away from traditional closer role, and Kimbrel made it clear that is what he wanted to do, get saves. I believe the FO will make trades, they did two years ago, both buying and selling in a few days span. I feel we need at least 2 more high end relievers for the playoffs. Hopefully, they can get them and not have to give up too good of prospects. Remember when old FO got Matt Capps and what they had to give up? Not saying this one will make that bad of a deal, but you never know. -
The problem is he is 26 with 1 year of service time under his belt. Teams that are selling would most likely be looking more so for younger players, at least I would if I was GM. Any team that is looking to add now will not want to drop a good pitcher. I would love to see Twins sell high on him and maybe get minor league arm Twins think can step in, but not expecting him to be involved in any major deals.

It will take a very low dip in numbers for Lewis to drop below Larnach. SS are always ranked higher, because it is premium position, and they can always move to others, where corner OF can only do that, 1B or DH. Hitting is not only thing that ranks prospects. That being said, it is good problem to have with all the OF talent in the system right now, some will get flipped for sure.

Scout reports state he holds runners will with a good pickoff move, and not many teams run now a days. Also, his K rate has been high in college, if he can carry that over, running on him is not as effective, because striking out hitters at plate means no sac flies.

Sounds like he may be a bit of possible steal at this point. I am no expert on potential for injury based on his delivery, if it is any more likely than any other delivery. However, he strikes guys out at high rates, so even if he becomes only a bullpen guy is that really a knock anymore?

Sweep the tribe this week, and see what asking price for Hand will be. Then sign Kimbrel and that is a championship level pen.

Kirilloff, is the top hitting prospect in system, but he is 1 year older and does not play major defensive position. Lewis will stay above him for the year, but if Lewis continues to struggle at high A, seems like he is breaking out a little bit as well, then going into next year Kirilloff may move up to number 1, if he rakes rest of year.

Smeltzer looked good overall, I know Cane sure had no clue what was coming. He does not throw with velo expected these days, which could hurt him, but getting good movement and changing speed is more important. Does not matter if you throw 100, if it is straight and that is all you throw eventually someone will hit it. I agree the bullpen needs to be upgraded. The guys we have are working for now, but as season moves on, and games get more intense I am not sold on any of the guys we have to shut the door. It is nice to have the leads we have to not have those nail biting end of games, we had one on Monday and see how that ended up. I am not saying sign Kimbrel to 5 year 100M deal, but look for some possible trades most likely.

Article: The Best Twins Team Since...
Trov replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree it is too early to count on post-season even, let alone talking about an all time great team. They are performing well ahead of expectations. That being said, the fact that the line up is so balanced and putting up runs I do not see long time slumps that can crush teams. Each player, except for Polonco has had some stretch of bad hitting, but unless most of them have slump at same time I expect they will stay away from long losing streaks. The fact they still have plenty of games against Royals, Sox, and Tigers, I expect plenty of wins. If Cleveland does not see turn around soon, they may sell off a few of their pitchers, they were not adding to team in off season I do not expect big moves to make them better, so they will have to improve internally first, and Twins will have to falter. -
Is there any change in Stewart in terms of new pitch, increased velo, anything like that? He seems to be pitching better this year, than in recent years. Not expecting he will ever live up to his high draft number, but hey if he can fall into serviceable number 5 for a few years, or get flipped in a trade, unless Tampa comes asking never give Tampa who they ask for, I will be happy. If I was a front office, I would reach out ask for any player and ask who they would want, then tell them no deal and look into who they wanted and see what you may be missing.
