    The DA office declined criminal prosecution, months ago. This appears to stem from internal investigation and recommendation from the U's Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action office.

    A couple things I find interesting. 10 years, 30 teams, five rounds each. 1500 players, plus however many comp picks were added. But we'll just stick with 1500 draftees over 10 years. 299 of them have achieved 2 WAR. 20 percent. 167 have 6 or more WAR. 11 percent. 116 have 10 or more WAR. Less than 8 percent. Fewer than 4 per team since 2003. My take: every team needs talent, but depending on drafting any significant portion of it is asking for failure. You need to bring in talent through other means. International FAs, major and minor league FAs, trades. And of these, trading is the best bet. I would look to sell unproven minor league talent for proven big league talent at virtually every opportunity. If you think a Buxton is next to a lock to reach stardom, hold on to him. Anything less than that level, look to use it to acquire proven players. You can't sell everyone of course, but when offered proven talent, think hard about taking it. You'll win that bet more than you'll lose it. And that's just the first five rounds. There were 9000 players drafted over those 20 years...the numbers don't support "draft and develop" as any kind of reasonable primary strategy.

    Perhaps I over-generalized. Let me restate...of the friends and family I have in MN who are to some extent Twins fans, none would view a Dozier trade positively, or be more likely to buy tickets to a game (which is the context of this discussion.) They would view it as "why are they trading their best player? Same old cheap Twins. They just don't want to pay him."

    Most Twins fans are casual fans, and I guarantee those fans would view a Dozier trade negatively. I agree they need to win to turn around the attendance decline, but I also believe a Dozier trade would negatively impact interest in the Twins, at least for 2017.

    I don't think removing Landa from the 40 man means any of the following: - "the Twins have fireballers to spare" - "so do the rest of the league's teams" I think it means the Twins needed an open spot on the 40 mand, and a 22 year old who has been in the organization since 2011 and not advanced past A ball was a logical person to drop, because he has little chance to help the Twins (or any other team) in 2017. The Twins, like every other team, will still be looking at velocity as a desirable trait for their pitching staff, because velocity, in and of itself, is a weapon. Not the only weapon, but a weapon, and a valuable one.

    I am in the camp of "why would we add any reasonable pitching prospect?" in a deal to acquire pitching? Unless the new brain trust is convinced Stewart is a non-prospect, he stays.

    If framing numbers depend on the pitching staff--and they might--they're not really measuring framing.

    I would think these decisions were already made when Plouffe--and only Plouffe--was released.

    The current players are mostly Kill recruits. I will give him a partial pass on last season, but so far this year's class is abysmal. And I don't see him changing that.

    A real AD already has made those calls, and has the new head coach verbally committed. And if not, an extension needs to be in place, very soon. Recruiting is tough enough, trying with a lame duck head coach is suicide.

    Interesting to see if Clays is fired, or extended. IMO, he should be gone by Monday. He is not D1 head coach material. Recruiting is abysmal, ticket sales off. Zero buzz around the program. 8 wins, but none that count, and it's tough to see any improvement on the horizon. We learn about the new AD's goals this week.

    Pedro Martinez. Greg Maddux. Johan Santana. Pitcher height is next to meaningless. The difference in "downward plane" angle from someone 5' 10" and someone 6' 4" is minuscule when standing 60 feet away.

    There has never been a hitter in the history of basebll who wasn't better ahead in the count than behind, and I don't care what SSS splits you produce. Never. Not one. Little league, HS, college, pro, major league. Every. Hitter. Is. Better. Ahead. That said, I've always been somewhat skeptical of the runs tossed around as attributable to framing, but I don't think there can be any doubt there is some difference in skill between catchers, and some value to that skill. How much? Don't know. But it's not nothing.

    Speaking of turning Castro into something he's not, you might want to double check your 2015 caught stealing data. As an aside, consider adding data over and above batting average to evaluate offense.

    What's not to like? They needed help at catcher. Castro was one of three realistic options, and that's if you include Ramos. He's not helpless against RH pitching and can be paired with a RH hitting mate, and you need two catchers anyway. He is by all accounts a good receiver. 3/$24.5 isn't a lot of money in this day and age. Sheesh. Some of you are hard to please.

    He was dominant in 2015. Leave him in the pen.

    If Mike Trout never played another game, he'd have a case for the HOF. He's led the league at least once in each of the following categories: Runs, RBI, SB, BB, OBP, and SLG. That's a pretty impressive mix of power, speed, and discipline. His lowest OPS over his five full seasons is .939.

    Castro's 2016 major league OPS (.684) was over 70 points higher than Murphy's AAA OPS (.609). I don't think it's a given Murphy will even be the Twins backup catcher in 2017.
