  1. Personally, I would not be sad to see a different every day left fielder next year. Just too many really, really indefensible decisions. Poor day from the bullpen, too, but none of that was intentional. Running through a stop sign, and not knowing the ground rules and giving up on a ball in play...those are intentional. Pretty bad loss, all in all.
  2. I'm pretty confident a ground ball to the left side wasn't Buxton's goal in that AB. He beat it out, great, but that's a rarity. His goal, I'm sure, was a line drive single to the OF. Failing that...put the ball in play.
  3. I would almost never pay any attention to "run expectancy." No two situations are equal, and using a composite average to evaluate specific situations doesn't appeal to me. In this specific situation, I was glad to get the game tied over 1st and 2nd, 1 out, no runs in, and the 2nd half of the lineup due up against a pitcher throwing well. I dont think there was much chance of the two runners advancing to 2nd and 3rd, either. The most likely outcome is Cave keeps running and is tagged out on a slide at home. Even if he pulls up, the catcher can just run him back to third, make one throw, and no other runner will risk advancing. BTW, its not by accident or mistake that Cave WAS running on that play. You teach runners in that situation to go on a ground ball, forcing the defense to make a decision. Worst case scenario is Cave retreats to 3rd, and they turn a DP anyway.
  4. If I'm managing, I pitch to Buxton over pitching to Gonzalez (with no open base) in that situation 100 times out of 100. I HAVE to get out of that inning. Buxton gets thrown out on ground balls all the time, this one just happened to be pretty slowly hit. And Who will be the runner at 2nd in the 8th, if we get that far, is way way down the list of concerns.
  5. Finishing 2nd in the division doesn't preclude playing the Yankees, the Sox, or Toronto.
  6. "The only solution? Numbers. They don’t lie." Aren't ERA and RBI numbers?
  7. Well no, obvi. Tiz The Law already won the Belmont Stakes.
  8. Best of luck in all you do, Bert! You were the best pitcher to ever wear a Twins uniform.
  9. I don't understand why Donaldson would be activated tomorrow, but not today. He's been on the IL for weeks, what possible difference could 24 hours make? He's either ok, or not. They're facing a LHer, the season has less than 30 games remaining, and they clearly need a jolt. I do NOT understand the mindset. Also, they better not start Avila tonight, against a leftie, after starting Jeffers last night against Giolito.
  10. Allowing Rich Hill to walk the bases full, then give up a 2 run single, was managerial malpractice. Way, way WAY worse than dropping a fly ball. One was intentional.
  11. Cutting RIch Hill may have been a game changer.
  12. I expect 9 shoutout innings, since there's nobody left in the pen after tonight.
  13. Disappointed. Glad we held onto all those shiny prospects last year, too. Where would they be without them?
  14. pretty light return for a starting pitcher with Clevenger's pedigree.
  15. One horrid AB after another. Cave's 1st inning 3 pitch K with 2 on should be enough to send him to St Paul.
  16. They seem to be missing a pulse.
  17. I dont agree that "this season is unimportant." Its much shorter, not less important. To me, anyway.
  18. I remember the quote as "a hanging curve is a gift from god."
  19. Doubleheader recap: life sucks, and then you die.
  20. Watching yet another bullpen game loss today?? No thanks.
  21. Looks like Jason won't need a drive by truck to haul away his winnings betting on Dobnak.
