  1. "One other change fans at the ballpark will notice is how quickly the building in left field is going up." Won't that make it hard for the left fielder to catch fly balls? J/k. Great writeup!
  2. He didn't say good, he said flexible. There's a lot of ways to put this together and still be bottom five!
  3. If by flexibility you mean Nick Gordon batting cleanup, more than once, yeah, I guess.
  4. So the typical "day to day" approach serves the Twins porrly yet again. At the very least if they were contemplating this, and they had to have been, Julien should have been in Minneapolis, not Indianapolis, so they could activate him for tonight. And who knows if he gets there in time for tomorrow's day game.
  5. But the Twins ARE purposely not playing their best players. I don't know why some fans feel the need to deny that, or rationalize that. I can understand if you agree with their plan. I mean, I strongly DISagree with that philosophy, but that's certainly open for debate. What ISN'T open for debate is the fact the Twins do hold players out for no reason other than "load management." They schedule days off (pretty rigidly, at that), limit innings pitched zealously, and err on the side of "an extra day or 2 off after a mild injury" every time. Every. Time. All the time.
  6. What an interesting thought, one that hadn't occurred to me. As usual, you bring thoughtful input into any discussion. I think, at the end of the day, they might not. Great players play. By definition.
  7. Youre just flat wrong. The Twins do not play their best players every day. Other teams do. Gio Urshella and Luis Arraez led the Twins lat year with 144 games played. Nick Gordon played as many as Carlos Correa. Plenty of MLB players logged over 150, and many more would have except for IL time. You wanna argue that resting players is a good idea, go for it. You're wrong, but at least it's an honest argument. "Everyone does" isn't.
  8. No, they do not. Plenty of teams still expect plenty of players to either be in the lineup or on the IL. And players still do, with no ill effect. Francisco Lindor doesn't need "load management," why does Correa?
  9. Not playing Buxton because he might get hurt has the exact same effect as if he actually was hurt. Makes zero sense. None. Not running, when on base, has the exact same effect as him being the slowest player in the majors. Makes zero sense. None. Intentionallly DHing him to put MAT in the lineup has the exact same effect as DHing MAT, 3 of 4 games. Anyone OK with that? Makes zero sense. None. Ridiculous. Put him in CF with no more days off than injury requires. Anything else is self inflicted damage to the team.
  10. I can't speak for everyone, but I believe really good teams both prevent and score runs better than others.
  11. Wut? The Nats went 55-107 last year. They were "out of" 2 or 3 games per week. And they most certainly didn't face the Astros for the title. I doubt they'll take my call, but if they do I'll tell them they can't compete by the math.
  12. This team is going to struggle to score runs all year. Hopefully run prevention gets them to the postseason, because they're not going to consistently outscore anyone.
  13. I don't understand the reluctance. Waiting, You'd be denying yourself the platoon advantage on the chance you need it later. PH: guaranteed platoon advantage at least once. Possible disadvantage later. Don't PH: guaranteed disadvantage at least once. Possible advantage later. Seems like a no brainer. You're only guaranteed the advantage by PHing at the first opportunity.
  14. Nitpic, I suppose, but also the DP induced by Lopez was of the 3-2-4 variety, not 6-3-4.
  15. I hope it's cherry kool-aid you're drinking, like it should be. Or at least orange. Not any of them fake new flavors. 'Cause those ain't kool-aid.
  16. Yeah, the idea that teams basically ran at will on Jeffers because of Twins pitchers is more urban legend than fact. Jeffers has a slow release and doesn't throw well. That's why he can't throw out runners.
  17. Taylor would be the illustration you'd find if you were to look up "defense-only veteren" in The Baseball Dictionary.
  18. "Don't play him because he might get hurt and then he won't play. Have him sit out games so he doesn't have to sit out games." There's a logic flaw there somewhere. Can't put my finger on it, but I sense it.
  19. I concur position flexibility has become something of a necessity in the days of massive pitching staffs. However...I strongly disagree with the part about playing lesser players just to play them. Why play your lesser players when you don't have to? Play them when/if you need to, because the better player is unavailable. If the better player never becomes unavailable, great. No need for the lesser guy.
  20. No room for Hand, but room for this?
  21. Groovy, man. Like, far out.
