    Does platooning make much sense in today's baseball? Most of the time the starting pitcher only pitches 4-6 innings. Unless you are right at the top of the order (and Cron is not), you only see the starter twice, then you see whatever relievers take over. Granted that there are a lot more right-handed relievers than lefties, but it seems like the era of the straightforward platoon vanished with the complete game.

    I'd say more of a rough "inning" than a rough "outing." He was pretty solid after the shaky 6th.

    I totally agree that Mauer's absence has been a major component of the infield errors. Cron has scooped some errant throws (especially earlier in the season), but Joe was a catcher and was remarkably good at keeping the ball in front of himself (and usually catching it).

    It seems like many championship teams get some key performances from a new arrival down the stretch, much like the Twins have gotten from Arraez in the middle of the season. The unexpected success boosts team morale and gives everyone a bit more confidence. Now that arrivals cannot come from late waiver deadline trades, they have to be promotions. Could Graterol be the guy who comes up and keys 2-3 wins in the final month?

    Kepler is very athletic and played a lot of first in the minors. He's a very good outfielder, but we have lots of outfielders coming up.
