  1. It seems like having the pitcher out there for three batters would make it *more* important to alternate LRLR, not less. If Cruz, Garver, and Sano are coming up in that order, a right-hander can come in and pitch to all three.
  2. I have spent a lot of time in the last month thinking about what this Twins team would have been if Joe Mauer had signed for one more season and played at the same level that he did in 2018. I think that Joe would have helped the team massively in two ways: (1) He would have been a steady on-base man ahead of the homerun hitters and (2) he would have saved a dozen or more throwing errors in the infield (plus saving a dozen hits at first). Joe probably would have provided fewer HRs than Cron, though with the live ball he might well have hit 15-20). But this team had plenty of HRs elsewhere. What they lacked was better on-base skills and infield defense. Joe would have helped with both of those.
  3. I'd part with Rosario in a trade if they could replace him with a high-OBP guy that has some speed. They have all the power that they need, even if the baseball comes back to earth next year and homeruns are down. What they need is one more guy like Arraez getting on base regularly so that the solo homers become 2-run homers. And having a guy who is a threat to run forces mistakes from the pitcher and defense. With Buxton out we had exactly zero of those down the stretch.
  4. I didn't watch a minute of the series, partially due to travel and other conflicts. But I simply don't like post-season baseball and I'm not sure I would have watched anyway. It's like running a marathon and then having a series of 100-yard dashes among the top 10 finishers to decide the winner. And, really, the only question in my mind going in against the Yankees was what the scores would be in the three losses. Thanks to the Twins (and TD) for six months of pleasure and success---more than any of us would have expected in March. They finished 3rd in a league of 15. They have a young core that should get better in the next few seasons. They have enough salary space to add key pieces. They have one of the best minor-league systems in baseball that has produced key players like Garver, Arraez, and Polanco from modest investments in signing bonuses and draft positions. Don't let a week of disappointment ruin a summer of fun! There's a lot to which to look forward! I'm anxious to find out if Graterol can be our ace in the next couple of years. I'm anxious to see what Arraez does with a full season. I'm anxious to see if Sano can finally convince me to root for him again. I'm anxious to see what Buxton can do if he can stay healthy for a full season. Go Twins!
  5. How can any of us possibly know what offers the Twins have made to whom? I get really tired of all the ranting on this board about the Twins never trying to sign FAs or trade key prospects. Unless someone has a reliable contact inside the Twins' organization, we simply don't know what offers were made unless they end up getting accepted and leading to a signing/trade. Moreover, sometimes the best deals are the ones you don't make, as pointed out by many here who have tracked the dreadful performance of the high-profile FA relievers from last winter.
  6. Turner always seemed to be the elite defender at a crucially important position. But a career OPS of .426 is just not something that can be in your lineup even if you can play all nine positions perfectly at the same time. Garver always had the bat and the arm, but was criticized for his defensive mechanics. Good on the Twins: mechanics are learn-able and Garver is a good student. These are the kinds of good decisions (and good player development) that make champions. No team (except maybe the Astros) gets enough top 5 draft picks to build a team that way. You have to find the players who have the basic skills and character to develop into stars. Go Twins!
  7. Thanks! I'll try to remember.
  8. How dumb do I feel that a squirrel is teaching me about technology? Are there instructions somewhere on the site for posting pictures/videos? I know I've succeeded in posting them before, but I couldn't remember how last week and never did manage to post totally apt picture either from my hard drive or from the URL.
  9. I'll be happy if I'm proved wrong. But for now, I stand by my pessimism.
  10. Or just one more excuse for the inevitable sweep against NY.
  11. Do all turtles walk on the bottoms of their pant legs? Or is it just ours?
  12. Jose may get the Twins' first CG of the season.
  13. I'm glad that the Tigers got the message that this is really a AAA game. Oh, wait. This is the same lineup they've been using all week.
  14. I guess if you have to consume the stuff, spraying it around the room is far better than drinking it.
  15. And they are asking him to squat behind the plate ~150 times?
  16. This does not look like a championship team. They just don't do the fundamentals!
  17. This seems about right to me. Tough on Gibson, who has been with the club through all the losing and played a significant role at times this season, but it's hard to see what we get from him in present form.
  18. This really looks like a team staggering into the post-season ... just like the 1987 team that lost, like, its entire last week of games.
  19. Grand slam here makes it a save situation.
