  1. The Twins are one Buxton injury (never far away) from fielding basically a minor-league lineup. We all hope that they do well, but surviving at .500 for the next month would be a good outcome.
  2. 76th percentile whiff rate and 11th percentile K rate. Unless I'm misreading the numbers (possible) somehow he is striking out a lot without swinging and missing a lot. This seems fixable.
  3. My time-addled memory is hazy, but I seem to remember plaudits for Bundy last week for having a terrible early inning and then going back out and eating up 3-4 more to save the bullpen. It didn't work out this time, but the manager had that precedent for thinking that it might.
  4. Surgery for Sano is convenient because we don't have an automatic out in the lineup for a month or two. And Rocco doesn't have to deal with a grumpy giant in the dugout, as he would if he simply benched him.
  5. Yes, it all seems to depend on Correa, and he holds the option. Lewis is our shortstop next year if he leaves. If he stays, then we are still in a situation of great uncertainty because of his second-year option, but will need to find a place for Lewis if he continues to develop as he has recently.
  6. I remember Wells vaguely from his time in the Twins' system, but I don't remember him getting that much attention. How high did he reach in the prospect rankings? Maybe mid-teens?
  7. Somehow this list does not inspire a lot of confidence! Only Milton was a successful starter. Josh Winder, 2022 Devin Smeltzer, 2019 Andrew Albers, 2013 Anthony Swarzak, 2009 Benj Sampson, 1998 Eric Milton, 1998 Rick Lysander, 1983 Jim Roland, 1963
  8. I'm sorry, but an .096 batting average is not modest. A .236 batting average is modest. A .196 batting average is simply poor. An .096 batting average is lower than many (most?) pitchers back in the days when we expected pitchers to bat. I'm ready to not have his automatic out in the lineup every time through.
  9. So, the logical extension is to have Sano attempt to steal second with the bases loaded and wait for the opponents to mess up? (It might work against Detroit and Chicago.)
  10. Skubal really should learn to throw a Skrubal!
  11. I've seen a couple of Kernels' games this spring and have been very impressed by Prato. He seems to have a good bat and even memorably stole home once. I don't remember seeing a lot written about his as a prospect. Can Seth or someone else fill me in?
  12. I'm still admiring the Gordon throw from CF. Very Eddie-esque. But more chalant!
  13. I never loved Carneal, maybe because of the Southern drawl. But Ray Scott and Halsey were wonderful! Thinking about the latter takes me back to being a 10-year-old Twins fan!
  14. As far as I can see, the Twins have already established themselves as a non-competitive team this year. They were non-competitive last year. It's long past time to push some of the prospects, let them get a bit of experience and, perhaps, take some lumps. If necessary they can go back down. But there's just no excuse for running out mediocre re-treads regularly at positions where we have young players ready to give it a try.
  15. This team has had a loser mentality for the last two seasons. Why? It's up to the manager and the leaders in the clubhouse to inspire some confidence. It's not happening. None of us knows what happens in the clubhouse, but I can't imagine that there are many smiles. Rosario and Astudillo were two Twins that had personality. They were good for the fans and probably for the players, too. Are there any real personalities in the dugout now? Or just "arms and bats."
  16. This is one of the biggest reasons that I abandoned pointy-ball about a decade ago for real football.
  17. Yup. On current evidence, we traded one year of excellent relief for 3 years of lousy starts.
  18. The rational choice is to bet against your favorite team. It diversifies your risk. If your team wins, you're happy about it. If your team loses, you are happy about winning the bet.
  19. Perhaps this is how "respected" writers start to lose respect?
  20. What do the stat-heads think would be the record of a team of replacement players? Because that's what this lineup looks like right now. Correia and Polanco are playing at that level and the rest of the lineup (I'm looking at Monday's lineup against the No-Longer-Yellow-Sox with Garlick at cleanup) ARE replacement-level players.
