  1. When I first saw this post I couldn't tell if you were kidding or not - have you been to Twins games in April at Target Field? I generally spend about two hours trying to warm up when I get home. I think it's fantastic that they are playing in Puerto Rico next spring, would be so fun to be there especially with the likes of Berrios, Rosario, Lindor, etc. Bring it on!
  2. He can't be any worse than Nik Turley. (Sorry I like the finally making the majors story as much as anyone but apparently there was a reason he was in the minors that long.) I was wondering the same thing about Doug Fister - wasn't he recently DFAed or put on waivers? At least he has had some success at the major league level. I'm drawing the line on Bartolo Colon though.
  3. If you like ballparks with beautiful views AT&T Park and Coors Field should be on the list. From the upper deck at AT&T Park you can see the Bay Bridge off to one side and the Golden Gate Bridge off to the other side. At Coors Field you can see the mountains in the distance. Stunning. Thanks for the review of Sun Trust - never been to Atlanta but that one is on my list. I have been to KC but that was about 15 years ago before their renovations so I need a return visit, especially since it's easy to drive there from the Twin Cities!
  4. Thanks - this is one of those things that I assumed but interesting that they are trying to quantify it. Not surprising to see that they are mostly outfielders and back in the day Rickey Henderson was also an outfielder.
  5. I love Californians. If I had a dollar for every time someone visited in the summer - yeah, come back in January...but that's just me being snarky. Welcome to Minnesota, Royce.
  6. I can relate to this - someone I know would post endless messages on his Facebook page about how beautiful his wife is, how lucky he was, how much he loved her, etc. to the point where I was considering unfriending him. Good for you that you love your wife, now shut up about it. Turns out he was having an affair and is now divorced...
  7. Haha, regarding #3 my dad has a slight variation on that - whenever I asked him anything when I was younger his first response was usually, "Where's your mother?"
  8. Sorry if this has been covered before but does anyone know what the record for a position player pitching in one season is? It seems like you might see it once, maybe twice in a season...
  9. I had a couple of days off this week so I went to the Burnsville-Lakeville North game on Thursday to see Sam Carlson in person. Yeah, didn't go well for him...I can see how he could have been tired lately with all of the draft craziness, graduating, etc. Either that or he was nervous because he hit the first batter of the game and threw two wild pitches in the first inning, one of which bounced about five feet in front of the plate. Nice physique and delivery though, I can see why he was drafted. There was an older lady sitting next to me and when the Lakeville North pitcher came out after pitching six shutout innings she said, "That's my grandson!" And I said, "Oh congratulations, he pitched really well today." And then she said, "No not him, the one coming into the game now." I also heard several people commenting on how they hadn't been to CHS Field before and how nice it is. I concur. I had never been to the Mini Met in Jordan either so I went there on Friday for the Parkers Prairie-Red Rock Central/Westbrook/Walnut Grove game and that is a really fun ballpark. A kid from Parkers Prairie pitched a complete game 4 hitter and also had a home run and four RBI. Considering some of the pitching performances we've seen this year from the Twins I was about to go and ask him if he could help us out with some of these doubleheaders...
  10. Bert Blyleven apparently has noticed that Dick Bremer likes to comment on official scoring during the telecasts because when Seager got a hit past Dozier last night Blyleven said, "I can't believe they called that an error on Dozier." When Bremer said "They did??" Blyleven said, "Just kidding."
  11. I agree about Cory Provus, I enjoy listening to him as well.
  12. Whenever I have a long drive my fallback is one of the Sue Grafton alphabet mysteries, most of them are read by Judy Kaye who is great. If you are in the Twin Cities you can get them all at the library but they might be pretty cheap online too.
  13. He did it multiple times even though she was clearly uncomfortable after the first time he did it, ugh. I don't think the country has anything to do with it, I've traveled to different parts of the world and have found that body language speaks pretty clearly no matter where you are.
  14. In case you are not familiar with the Minnesota Girls Baseball Association I wanted to post a link to their website which has more information about free clinics they are doing for female baseball players this summer: https://www.mngirlsbaseball.org It also has sections dedicated to the history of women in baseball and additional resources if you're interested in learning more. The founder is Emma Charlesworth-Seiler, a Minnesota native who recently was hired to umpire Gulf Coast League games in Florida this summer (including one of the Twins minor league teams).
  15. Nice work on these Matt, crazy to think it's been almost 20 years since David Wells's perfect game. I definitely remember watching that one on TV.
  16. I saw that too, looking forward to heading to CHS Field again this season next weekend.
  17. Good interview, thanks for sharing!

Conditioning, stretching, diet, etc. definitely plays a part in it but a bigger part is that Nolan Ryan was just born with his talents. I always chuckle when people say stuff like, "Well, Nolan Ryan could do X..." Well, that's why Nolan Ryan is in the Hall of Fame.
  19. It's still raining and it's also windy and cold - I would definitely be more likely to go to a game on a Saturday night in June than tonight.
  20. I don't get that channel but it sounds like something I'd watch in the winter when it comes out on DVD...
  21. I want to try the shrimp boil, that sounds good. I need to investigate if they still have the cucumber mint lemonade at the Andrew Zimmern stand, that was (of course) overpriced but very refreshing on a hot day. As far as pizza, they used to have Pizza Luce at the stand in the outfield - if they still have that it's much better than the Papa John's pizzas at the regular concession stand. If you want to get a whole pizza it costs about $35 - my friends still chuckle about that...although if you add up what you'd spend buying concessions separately maybe it's not quite as overpriced as everything else.
  22. I thought the same thing - when Ricky Nolasco is your opening day starter what does that say about your rotation. Yeesh, go get 'em guys...although I never feel bad for anyone who lives in southern California.
  23. I agree - I was there a few years ago, it's an easy trip from the Twin Cities and the ballpark is nice. I saw Max Kepler in the game I attended, fun to remember that.
  24. Mark this in the category of things that will never happen but the announcers were wondering today if the winner of the WBC could beat the World Series champion - that would be cool if they would play each other.
  25. Picked a certain local team to win their first game...sigh.
