  1. Yes, I read that article as well and thanks for posting this one! If you're not a subscriber most libraries have a copy of Minnesota History. Also this might have been posted elsewhere on this site but there is a baseball lecture on Tuesday (April 9) at the Minneapolis Central Library. Here's the link- scroll about three fourths down on this page: http://www.hclib.org/pub/events/AllEventsAction.cfm?Agency=ce There is also a baseball exhibit at the Minneapolis Central Library too- play ball!
  2. It's really hard to compare Wrigley Field to Petco Park...I've been to about half of them and I think the best one is PNC Park in Pittsburgh. Unfortunately it seems like the Pirates are doomed to have a bad team since they have such a spectacular ballpark. I'm biased of course but I think Target Field is the second best one. But again, there's not much else like seeing the manual scoreboards at Wrigley or seeing all the dents in the green monster at Fenway and appreciating the history of those two ballparks. Most of the stadiums I didn't like aren't around any more (apparently I wasn't the only one who didn't like them...) but I agree with those who said Miller Park is overrated. I've been there a couple of times and even back when the Twins were playing in the Metrodome I was never really that impressed with it. I'm looking forward to seeing some of the newer ones in Cincinnati and Citi Field in New York. I've also never been to the ones in Texas...so many baseball trips, so little time.
  3. Yes, I have been to Camden Yards and it is quite lovely. The ballpark and area behind the outfield are very enjoyable. I don’t know how many millions of dollars they spent rehabbing the Inner Harbor area but there are a lot of great things in that area- the Babe Ruth birthplace and Maryland Sports Museum are right near the ballpark. If you like seafood, I would recommend the lobster spring rolls at the Rusty Scupper, it’s a restaurant on the harbor with great views. (Kind of expensive as seafood can be, but their appetizers like the spring rolls are very reasonable.) I remember there is also an old ship and submarine that were cool to tour as well as Fort McHenry which is just a short drive from the ballpark. I know there are some less than desirable areas further away from the ballpark but I found the downtown area very nice. I haven’t been to the Nationals ballpark in Washington DC, someday!
  4. Yes, Chipper Jones is a hall of famer. There really aren't that many great third basemen in the Hall of Fame. Which is actually an interesting discussion itself- do you think position should matter when it comes to the Hall of Fame?
  5. Well, I was at game 6 so duh. But the other memory I have is when I was at the post-game reception for the Twins all-time team (I think it was in 2000) and with all of the Twins greats there when he arrived people just mobbed him. It was obvious he was used to it because he just very calmly signed autographs and was gracious to every fan that came up to him (including me). That ended up being the only time I met him and got his autograph…
  6. AMEN to "For the Love of the Game." I felt bad saying I hated that movie since I'm a baseball fan but Kevin Costner really was awful and it just seemed really contrived. Dragged on and on!!
  7. Hey Puck, I was at the new Yankee Stadium last summer and I have to say I'm not a fan. It didn't even strike me as a ballpark, more like a huge corporate collosus with no soul. Just like the Yankees though...so it fits at least. The tickets are extremely expensive and I agree with one of the other posters who said they don't have any good food options. (Really, they couldn't have had at least one good option after spending a billion?) There were two redeeming things about the place in my experience. Monument Park was pretty cool, get there right when the gates open because it closes about 45 minutes before the game. The line was long when I was there, but it went fast. And their HOF/museum was quite nice. I think that is open during the games too but I can't exactly remember. I didn't make it to Citi Field but one weird thing I remember about their tours is that they were only offered on Saturday and Sunday. I thought that was weird that they wouldn't at least offer them on Friday as well during the season when the team was out of town but maybe there's a reason they are limited to weekends. Hope this helps, enjoy NYC!
  8. I have only been to Fort Myers once but I hope to get back there someday so I enjoyed your post! I believe the Patinella’s chicken grill you mention in your culinary guide is the same franchise that has a stand at the Minnesota State Fair. I’ve tried it a couple of times and it’s quite tasty. They have a few options that are also gluten free if that is a concern for anyone. I would also recommend Sun Harvest Citrus, which is about a mile down the road from Hammond Stadium. They had awesome fruit samples, freshly squeezed juices and ice cream cones. Enjoy!
  9. Congrats guys, I look forward to talking all things Twins in the spirit of the old Dickie Thon message board!
