  1. I don't believe Arcia is a bust. I think he missed out on MiLB development time and is still catching up.
  2. I see there's still a lot of people doing bargain shopping. I view minor league players with a more skeptical eye than many of you. I don't believe a player in your MiLB system at single A level can or should be your #1 prospect. Or a 16 yr. old kid just signed from the international pool is suddenly the #10 prospect in your system. If these things are true, you've got a pretty bad system. If the Twins are contemplating a trade, EVERYONE is available.
  3. I'm thinking that at this point they should just send him home. Let him clear his head. Then send him to the winter leagues.
  4. I've thought about this, too. With that many players playing same positions with different skill sets, it can only lead to multiple sets of rotations. Molitor seems to have clearly moved away from Gardy's "playing my guys" type of lineup.
  5. Add-on comment :-) "Conclusion: The system has now peaked." Is it now the time to start moving out some of the 27+ year olds from AAA and be more aggressive moving younger [ by that I mean "current" ] prospects there?
  6. The cast of Kyle Cody keeps getting stranger. Earlier reports were he and some sort of physical injury, but no one said what. In the Strib, Ryan is quoted as saying "Ryan said there were no health concerns that affected negotiations." Despite prior reports that the Twins pulled an offer because of the fantom "physical injury". Cody made the smart decision: go back to Kentucky for his final year and enjoy life.
  7. It's not a measurable, but you can't discount the change in almost the entire coaching staff. Gardy was a dead-man walking and acted like it. All of the offensive stats seem to be pointing to one thing: they are most likely unsustainable.
  8. There is a dearth of catching throughout ALL baseball levels. I'd quickly trade anyone with value for the top level catching talent at ANY level. OK, maybe not top level players :-)
  9. Shane, Picking a couple of nits here :-) Why did you pick Buxton over Sano? I can believe it if you said, well Buxton is a 4-tool play and Sano is a 1-2+ player. I go by actual production and Sano took off in MLB from the very start. Buxton, not so much. How did you pick Wandy Javier as the #9 position player? He hasn't played in anything above high school or probably [ more likely ] one of the local MLB team supported leagues. Just curious.
  10. I remember Kennys wasn't on the prospect list. I'm not quite ready to give up on him. If it's an attitude issue, I'd stay out of the way and leave that to Mientkiewicz.
  11. You are reading far to much into what I posted. I never said that. And never said he was a bad reliever. All I'm saying is [and by the stats you list], my opinion is 64% of Perkins saves are not worthy of a save. They're all more like Holds.
  12. Sorry, Nick. I'm just not a believer in the current version of the Save. I believe Perkins gets too many cheap saves. (i.e. #3a condition: He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning) To me, that's not "saving" anything. Make that 1 run and I'm a believer.
  13. One more thing: This quote from Sano in the Pioneer Press: Sano, who is hitting .394 with one homer for the Twins in his first 10 games, said it's easier to hit in the major leagues than at Class AA Chattanooga, where he hit .274 with 15 homers in 66 games. "In Chattanooga, (pitchers) have no idea where they throw," he said. I've heard comments similar to the before. It's just been a really long time! I REALLY like Sano!
  14. To me, the playoff run is a great shot in the arm after 4 year of, well, you know. But I'm not really expecting a playoff spot. I'm more afraid of Terry Ryan becoming complacent again. I firmly believe the Twins are finally in rebuild mode and should continue down that path this year and next. Yes, there's been guys called up who have "failed". It's part of the process. There's been one guy who, so far, has made it look easy. Like I've posted before, it's audition time. I expect to see Berrios to get called to the pen end of July, early August. I'm expecting to see some of the bullpen guys that went up and down earlier, back up again. Maybe a debut of a rookie or 2 in the starting staff? Arcia is definitely a call up soon. I think he, Sano and Kennys Vargas are learning that Molitor REALLY doesn't like players showing off in BA and not working on their swing. Just my thoughts, I stand ready for the pummeling :-)
  15. #1 plus this year: Dumping the MLB coaching staff that seemed to be complacent with losing 90 games per year. I've always liked sinkerball pitchers. I've always like pairing guys like Milone with pitching staffs that have guys like May. I see May in a quick return to the rotation. Pelfrey's final meltdown can't be too far away. Had serious doubts about Hicks, especially missing THAT flyball in Texas. He's been having a lot of really good AB's lately. His chart is upward bound. Dozier: would it kill you to hit to the opposite field once in awhile?? Biggest concern: bullpen. I'd probably grab Fasor to plug part of the hole.
  16. I don't ever get a chance to see any of the MiLB affiliates play. Are there any pitchers that could be a now or later season callup that can help the Twins bullpen? I'm thinking Berrios.
  17. Maybe the others looked at the cool, calm approach Sano has shown? I mean, Good Grief: 8 walks, 8 RBI's 2 HR's in only 11 games! Ok, ok, 15K's
  18. Seth: I'm looking at the ages in the Rochester roster. There's a lot of guy's in the 27-29 range. Is there any plan in place to start rotating some of those guys out to make room for younger players?
  19. I, too, have doubts about the Twins playoff hope. At the same time, they are doing pretty much the same thing they did during the playoffs and World Series years: Take your lickings against the elite pitchers and beat up on the others. This Detroit series is a good example.
  20. I've already suggested Benoit, Cotts and Hawkins. If Terry Ryan had just listened to me, this situation would already be resolved! :-) If memory servers....... Doesn't Perkins typically wear out sometime around mid-August? Rodriguez would be a nice pickup, but he definitely wouldn't want to stay in that situation next year
  21. I'd really like to see Sano and Arcia back to back in the lineup, but Arcia needs to do a lot better to get the call.
  22. Jorge Polanco: I think it's a given he will hit. However, 6 errors in 6 AAA games? I think he's a future 2-bagger. With Dozier being extended and playing well, does Polanco have sufficient value to garner a quality RP?
  23. 50-50. Depends if Ryan can find a cheap, available RP.
  24. I was thinking going the free agent route for a catcher. Then I looked at the ages of the 2016 free agent catchers. Almost all above 30, about the time you start worrying about wear and tear. Of the bunch, it looks like A.J. Pierzynski is the best hitter. Only option: PRAYER.
  25. 5 hours later and I haven't see a better answer. Rockies are in 5th place with a 35-48 record. Hawkins had a good year last year as their closer and frankly the Rockies are using younger pitchers this year. A deal could probably be made for very little. If nothing else, it buys some development time for those who have tried and were sent back down.
