  1. Hey Jeremy! Where did you read this? "Everybody around the league is aware of the Twins having Oswaldo Arcia on the block. They are also aware of Arcia’s struggles both defensively and with the making contact offensively. His value is not that of a prime trade-candidate." News to me. But that's nothing new
  2. I don't know why........... 1. Twins would still be shopping for Benoit from the Padres when Latroy Hawkins could be had pretty cheap from the Blue Jays 2. Why they would consider adding to a rotation when they're already sticking starting talent in the bullpen. I think this trade talk is nonsense.
  3. I'll dispute that, somewhat. This is Hicks 3rd try at the MLB and it didn't start off all that well. If memory servers, Rosario had a pretty good slump, too. Many TD'ers were screaming for them to be sent down. Molitor was calm and said they just needed to tune some things. Talent is one thing. Being able to perform in front of a big stage, is another thing. That's where managers and coaches come in.
  4. IMHO: Alex Rodriguez show go DOWN in history for what he was and probably still is: a cheater.
  5. Hicks' BA is now up to .278, Rosario back up to .288. This is the kind of stuff that happens when the big guy who makes the decisions on who gets to play has your back.
  6. I don't believe the Twins will make the playoffs this year. I believe what we saw in the first half was, sort of, a euphoria over a clean break from [ almost ] the entire coaching staff that lead them to 4 90 loss seasons. I mean, who wouldn't be excited by that??
  7. I think Sano needs someone hitting behind him that could force the issue if he's walked. How about Dozier??
  8. I'll just say this about Torii Hunter: He's served his purpose. Hit and hit with some power. Provide a little leadership and get the team in an upbeat mood [pretty damn tough after 4 90L seasons]. He deserves a pat on the back and a nice exit present. I also like your idea that a pursuit of Gonzales makes Arcia "expendable". Add him to the offer!
  9. Well, pretty much the standard line: Trade for these star players to help us win, but DO NOT trade any of the minor league prospects because they are Tony the Tiger G R E A T!! Comical. The one player that is alleged to be available that would really help the Twins this year and next is Carlos Gonzales of CO. Yeah, he's got a big salary. So what? He's only 29, is starting to come around. CO is looking for SP's. Twins got pitchers. E. Santana, K. Stewart, A. Meyers to start. Most likely some money exchanged and another low level play on each side to balance contracts/personnel. All a moot point. Twins won't make it to the playoffs this year. Not after what Toronto did.
  10. Stats vs. a single batter be damned. If Glen Perkins is your closer, you expect him to do the job. Twins management has had his back for several years, making sure he gets all the easy save opportunities that present themselves. Has anyone heard any current trade rumors for Perkins? Not I. Maybe there's a reason why. BTW: May against Alex Rodriquez??
  11. Twins management should be looking past the "right now" to the future. Neither Weiters or O'Day appear to be a "future" type.
  12. I think there's something of a misconception going on here. re: calling up a MiLB starter and putting him in the bullpen. It's really done to get that pitcher acclimated to the MLB environment [big city, bright lights, steak instead of hot dogs...] and get a taste of MLB batters. We've seen them in the minors, call this a major league status check. Hey, sometimes they end up just sitting on the damn bench
  13. It's about leverage. Taller pitcher have more of it that shorter pitchers. Some "short" pitcher [Pedro Martinez, Tom Seaver and Bob Gibson] learned to create more leverage via their pitching motion.
  14. I've read a couple articles and watched a video of Carter Capps' delivery. Many are questioning if it's legal, that he's jumping at home plate. http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/21753540/v73287783/miaatl-capps-hopstep-delivery-analyzed Apparently, if a pitcher hops towards home plate and drags his trailing foot, it's legal. It's said in some cases, he's not dragging that foot.
  15. Do West Coast teams have an equivalent to the stinky Mississippi River? I don't think so :-) I agree with hybridbear, a good part can be due to travel. Another part is, those teams have a larger revenue market to draw from. I also don't discount the notion that those teams [at least now] have more aggressive management and ownership.
  16. Hmm.... My first thought was "A 36YR OLD CATCHER?!?!?!" Then I thought, well why not, considering the current state of Twins catching. I think I like the Diekman part more.
  17. I highlighted the things I liked in your post After 4 years of, I don't even know what to call it anymore, I'm not big on making short-term changes in the hopes of making the playoffs this year. I really like the idea of going after an ace. The Tigers may be making Price available. [Possibly Cespedes, too] That would most likely mean Buxton and 1-2 quality pitching talents would need to be included. And I see the Tigers have Nick Castellanos playing 3B. I'd toss in Plouffe too sweeten the pot, without any real knowledge how good Sano's defense is.
  18. "Danny Santana regressed so hard in his sophomore season that the world actually started rotating backwards too." Now THAT's funny!! My question to you, Parker is this: Should the Twins be active shoppers for a playoff run this year or building for the future? I can see at some positions that it's both. How about starting pitching? The only true #1 pitcher I know is available is David Price. Apparently the Tigers are gearing up for a garage sale. How about a proven bat for the OF? Just curious.......
  19. Angles, Yankees and Pirates. These 3 series should show whether or not the Twins are actually going to be playoff contenders. The Angels have established a template: Don't throw Dozier 1st pitch fastballs. The rest of the lineup, lot's of breaking stuff. The pitching staff resembles the Tigers [actually, the Tigers over the past several years]: Don't worry too much about the starting staff. Keep things close with the Twins starters, because you can tee-off on their bullpen. It's been a great ride: A cause for looking forward to a .500+ WINNING season this year and renewed hope for the next.
  20. Back to centerfield, where he was successful last year? From what I've read about Polanco, his arm plays out much better at second base.
  21. I would say, absolutely zero. Acquiring a guy like Tulowitzki is important from an image perspective. Gives free agents a feeling that this team REALLY wants to contend. The best example I can give [and many of you won't like] is the Green Bay Packers 1993 signing of DE Reggie White.
  22. Interesting commentary from a Rockies fan site: http://www.purplerow.com/2015/7/10/8928733/an-extra-reason-why-the-rockies-need-to-make-some-trades Rockies are potentially looking to squeeze down 58 players onto the 40 man roster. And what their GM is thinking: http://m.rockies.mlb.com/news/article/137616334/jeff-bridich-on-trade-deadline-jon-gray And the ever popular: Who would you trade first??? http://roxpile.com/2015/07/19/colorado-rockies-poll-which-player-do-you-trade-first/
  23. Interesting. The story and you have a source with knowledge of the trade market. Kudos !! Yeah, I get it, it's really early in the discussions. However..... Tulo has an injury history, so I'd be real careful to weigh that into the equation. More important: trade Gibson now? I just can't see it. He's the one young pitcher who's proving himself. And I can't see further depleting the starting staff by including Berrios. I'd probably try Hughes, May, add in a MiLB pitcher not named Berrios and Hicks and/or Arcia. From the Rockies: Tulowitzki, Axford & Hawkins, Hundley and, oh, tossing an A-AA prospect, or 2. LOL, good luck with that!!
  24. Twins should have started where they left off last year. D. Santana in CF and E. Escobar at SS. Both were successful over a good sample size. I'm still puzzled as to why they did this. I'm of the mind that the Twins are not playoff material. Overall, I think any trade should be made with an eye towards the future and not a playoff run. The only one's I would contemplate are Escobar, Cozart and Segura.
