  1. Good questions. I've watched many video's of ABW2's at bats. He has a very nice swing. Maybe a little too much of a power hitters uppercut. Clearly, his issue is pitch recognition. I would like to hear more of what the AZ League coaches have been instructed to emphasize to each player.
  2. Great to see lot of pitching upsides in the lower levels, especially lefties. Disturbing to see the high number of serious injuries. Bard is a pure survivor. Best wishes to all!
  3. I, like many others, had the same thought. As I remember it, there was a lot picking of nits on this skills. My question was always: What catcher in the Twins farm system is better? And now, back to the story :-) On Ryan looking for more starting pitching: He'd have to subtract 2-3 starters to make that happen, while not disturbing the progression of Gibson, May, Duffy, and Berrios AND still finding room for Santana and Hughes [ I'm assuming those the 2 Ryan would most likely keep]. I don't know how he'd do that. And let's face it: what "Ace" pitcher would come to Minnesota willingly? Bullpen: oh, god.. I don't know if I'd dive deeply into the free agent pool. I wouldn't want to get too locked in on any 1 veteran at this point. As a 1-2 year filling, yeah.
  4. As always, thanks for the MiLB info, Seth. I'm seeing a lot of injured year after year, 24 yr olds at lower-level leagues and a couple already targeted as utility players. That doesn't bode well for the future. But I also see some potential in Lee, Wade and Quezada. So there's hope!
  5. It doesn't sound like the Twins are sending that much talent to the AZL. More of a "redemption" type trip for all of them. I wonder if Walker is way to enamored with the homers and he's there so that get corrected.
  6. Hicks seems like he's on a slow learning curve. His drop after the hot streak in July I'd call a lack of recognizing and learning to adjust to pitchers adjusting to what he's doing at the plate. I believe Hicks deserves a shot at the starting CF next year for these reasons: 1. He did learn and made a pretty good jump this year 2. Buxton's hitting is atrocious. He has a ways to go before he's really MLB ready. 3. Who else is your CF? Shane Robinson?
  7. Absolutely fantastic story, Parker! I think this is your best work! The '87 Twins were the most fun team I've ever watched :-)
  8. Great write-up. I seldom hear about these young players.
  9. Many MLB teams are pretty much ignoring the "pool money", the Dodgers being the leader. For the right player, who seems to be at a discount right now, I don't know why the Twins would ignore the opportunity. I question the Twins depth in CF. Hicks has made progress, but still on the edge. At this point, Buxton hasn't proven his ability to hit.
  10. Yeah, I don't know. If I were voting for Twins MVP, I'd ask for a mulligan. I like Dozier, but he just doesn't meet my standards for an MVP type player: great performance for an entire season. Yup, mulligan and see you next year! ;-)
  11. The 1st half, 2nd half splits are very concerning. Losing command of a fastball is just weird, IMHO. If Gibson [ and Allen ] keep his delivery together, he will be a strong innings eater with a ++ .500 record. Twins really need an Ace.
  12. I'm with Dante929: I didn't like what Arcia, Sano and Vargas did during SP. Neither did Molitor and that's why Rosario got called up before anyone else. I also agree with Stringer Bell: Rosario play far more MLB games than Sano. In the end, I think I believe I agree with the voters: I like Rosario a heck of a lot, but you can't deny Sano's impact.
  13. Scouting report from MLB.com: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/128576212/eddy-julio-martinez-is-top-international-prospect
  14. Just a few days ago, it was reported that the Giants had agreed to terms with highly touted Cuban CF Eddy Julio Martinez. There's a lot of oddities to the saga, like this from MLB Rumors: "One of the most talked-about and highly ranked free agents earlier in the summer, Martinez curiously went months with his name scarcely coming up in news and rumors before the agreement with the Giants was reported." The signing bonus was supposed to reach $10M. The Giants supposedly signed him for $2.5M. Do you think there's any interest from the Twins? Here's the link to the MLB Rumors story: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/10/latest-on-eddy-julio-martinez-2.html ...and an interest take from Kiley McDaniel's FanGraphs chat: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/kiley-mcdaniel-prospects-chat-10615/
  15. As much as I can't see Mays in the bullpen, I'd have a tougher time if Nolasco was the cause.
  16. Well, let's face the facts: The times he got called up were because of injuries [both Hicks, I believe] and in his last 3 starts; 2 of which were because everyone else in the clubhouse was puking their guts out and the last was in game 162. Along with what Mientkiewicz has said, I'd say that's not a ringing endorsement from management. I expect Buxton to have significant time at AAA.
  17. When Hicks missed that fly ball near the wall in TX, I'm pretty sure I said something like "Hicks is dead to me". LOL He's turned into a nice player, but really needs to continue to work on his hitting.
  18. After his start today [and his previous performance] is it possible the Twins could make an injury settlement with Nolasco? I'd probably do whatever I could to trade Hughes and Milone, although I do like Milone. If there are trades to be made for either Dozier or Plouffe, I'd take advantage. I like Polanco as a replacement for Dozier and Sano for Plouffe. I haven't see much of either :-) I just don't see Danny Santana as a utility guy or Vargas as a bench guy. I'd say Escobar is the full time starting SS next year.
  19. I'm not in with this "Not a chance in hell" thing. But I like the Santana vs. Young matchup. I think that one's a win for the Twins.
  20. Hey Barbershop Quartets were the hip guys of their day!! Er, no. Not really.
  21. IMHO: Batting practice is all about eye - hand coordination.
  22. I'm a firm believer that a MVP should be a full-season player. If we don't hold true to that, then is Tyler Duffey a Cy Young candidate? Of course not. MVP: Dozier. He carried the team when few others could have. ROY: Rosario. Year long production on both offense and defense. Best Starting Pitcher: I really don't know. Of all the full-time starters this year, I'd say Gibson. A season long starter with a .500 record and an ERA under 4.00. Best Relief Pitcher: Perkins. If the Twins keep running him out there in the 1st half like they did, get used to the 1/2 year success. Most Improved: Hicks. You can't really say Escobar, because he produced like this last year, when he was the starting SS. Hicks, sent down a 3rd time, got his head and swing together and produced, well, better than he had and show a lot more confidence.
  23. The Twins are really sucking it up and stepping up!
  24. I was always down on how the Twins handled Escobar and Danny Santana. If a guy is successful one year as a starter, he deserves the opportunity to be a starter at the same position next year. Escobar success this year after being returned to starting SS didn't surprise me: PA BA OPB SLG OPS 248 .308 .356 .542 .898 Makes me wonder how Santana would have turned out [and what would the Twins record look like] if he had been returned to the starting CF position. Fantastic arm for a shortstop: just didn't seem to have the feel for it. BTW: Stringer: what's the scale on the version of WAR you used? I honestly don't like WAR right now. Too many different version makes it seem like it's not ready for prime time.
  25. If you were to ask Molitor about his bullpen decisions, I'll bet anyone $500 that he'll say: You stick with the guys who got you here.
