  1. Liked [ surprised ] by what I saw of Vielma. Very nice in the field and showed something at the plate. Kinda disappointed in Reed. I was expecting more. Seemed to me like a member of the "Brain-dead heaver's club". The rest is part of the pretty predictable 1st round of cuts.
  2. I've never doubted Buxton's play in the field. He's really something to watch. But let's face facts: who's the competition? I've always been a fan of what D. Santana did in 2014 as the Twins starting CF. However, at this point in SP, it's pretty clear D. Santana is being considered as a utility player, only. I'd like to see the Twins trade/release Danny so he can start anew. And I kinda like Beresford on the bench more. With the only other competition being a guy who's already destine for AAA, there is no competition. Buxton's AB's have been a lot better than the 1st few SP games and you can see the improvement over the past few. It's kinda the ole "fish or cut bait" thing. I'm now a believer that Buxton is the Twins starting CF for the future: short or long
  3. I just don't see Arcia as a bench player. Pretty one dimensional and needs a lot of AB's to be successful. I see Arcia as having a fair, but not great, spring at the plate. The Twins get a trade offer from a team that still thinks Arcia has potential. Twins take the deal and move on. I don't think Santana is a lock, either. Just like Buxton, he's gotta get on base.
  4. Interesting info. Thanks! Looks like the Twins are trying to find catchers practically anywhere. Is that a commentary on Turner and Garver or just a need for warm body's? 143 players all in one place? The kitchen staff must be exhausted already.
  5. Did I miss something? At what point did Jorge Polanco become a 3rd base prospect?
  6. Here's MLB.com's version http://m.mlb.com/news/article/157518896/2016-rookie-of-the-year-award-favorites "Byron Buxton, Twins Yes, he's still technically a prospect, just barely." Take it for what it's worth.
  7. Yup, it was too early Buxton looked much better today!
  8. The Twins were offering Escobar for relief pitchers? I hadn't heard that one. I'd offer Escobar an extension. He earned the job. Just not really sure how long of one. Rosario? Not yet. Need so see a 2nd year. P.S. Buxton looked much better at the plate today.
  9. Thanks for the videos! Like I said, it's probably way to early to be all that concerned. The plate appearances I saw, Buxton was a lot stiffer then even the 1st video you posted. Very, very strange. I think and hope you are right about Buxton. That 2nd video, he looks great!
  10. They've got 4 that can handle most of the work [Glen Perkins, Kevin Jepsen, Trevor May and Casey Fien], so the rest of the spots can be used for auditions. Watching last nights game, Nolasco wouldn't make my team.
  11. I don't know if it's just really early Spring Training or something to be concerned about, however: Buxton's lower half didn't seem to move at all in his AB's last night. His swing was almost exclusively from the waste up and looked sort of like a panic swing to catch up with the pitches.
  12. No to both, at least for this year. Perkins has been hurt the past 2 years. Bad luck, poor conditioning, whatever. Need to see this year play out. Buxton: which one will he be? A semblance of a 5-tool player or a guy with a serviceable BA/OBP/etc and already top notch defensive skills? Either way, he has value. Same as Perkins: need to see this year play out.
  13. The Twins have managed Berrios' innings. That's their standard strategy: build up arm strength slowly. At 166 inning last year, I'd say he's ready. But I'm also on the other side that says, let's let him get 2-3 starts at AAA. Shake off any winter rust and get the MLB opening season stuff out of the way.
  14. Escobar's stats as a part-time utility player were not good. Escobar's stats as a full-time shortstop with regular AB's were much better. What was the question again?
  15. So we're basically talking about a Tom Glavine-type guy with a better fastball? I like it!
  16. The Twins have always been a 'build from within' type of organization. And that will always be cyclical. Now, it looks like the Twins may be ready for the next step. Sure, there were some signings that don't look so good now, as there are some that seem ready for the MLB [berrios, Buxton, etc.] and the word "blocked" is being used a lot more for some of those MiLBers. It's the price that is sometimes paid when you try to keep the team afloat. I doubt that will last long. But key to this is the addition of veterans / FA's that can help drive the team forward.
  17. Just turned 23 last month. Plenty of time for him to develop.
  18. Question on Chargois [and all the other MiLB pitchers touching 95+]. What's his motion like? Smooth or jerky? I'm probably like others who are more concerned about a guy throwing 100mph after TJ surgery. Granted, 2 years later.
  19. I agree, Seth. I don't remember the guy's name, but just a few weeks ago there was one of the people from the Twins analytic departments here responding to posts. And quite frankly, isn't any team's "system" [with the exception of those in MAJOR markets] really about player development? I don't track all of the Twins MiLB leagues, but isn't true that there are 1-2 guys at each level showing MLB potential?
  20. Nope. I'm still seeing your name up top.
  21. Pretty cool stuff. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
  22. Seth, I think you're right on about Buxton. With Sano in RF, there's a real need for a guy with the defensive skills like Buxton in CF. But he really needs to show improvement at the plate, not in stats. I would like to see the Twins just hand him the job; stunting his further development in not a good idea. I understand the SP situation: there's contracts and money involved. I believe the Twins got a little too jumpy on all those signings, i.e. now seemingly blocking a guy like Berrios and putting something of a block on Duffey's return. Watching the bullpen evolve should be fun! Arcia: man, I hope he's successful. If that would happen, then there would be a need for a pretty large rotation of Arcia, Sano, Mauer, Park and maybe even Plouffe. I just don't see a guy who strikes out as much as Arcia as a bench player.
  23. The Hot Stove League lives on! I love this time of year.
