  1. To me, that looks like a seriously weakened bullpen.
  2. Kyle Gibson placed on 1 day DL: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2632360-kyle-gibson-injury-updates-on-twins-pitchers-shoulder-and-return and E. Santana has back spasms. So maybe both Berrios and Meyer get starts this week? Yup, both Gibson and Santana put on DL: http://www.twincities.com/2016/04/26/minnesota-twins-place-ervin-santana-kyle-gibson-on-disabled-list/
  3. Why the heck didn't Meyer get the start?
  4. .... I would have expected Alex Meyer to be the 1st guy called out of the bullpen. With a depleted bullpen and the fact that Meyer was already stretched out as a starter, him taking over for Milone was the only move that would have made sense to me.
  5. I don't think anyone on this team has disappointed me more than Murphy. Good reputation, MLB experience and his play at a premium position. But, boy his AB's have been fruitless and that handling of a bunt in a game the Twins could have won was a stunning show of failure under pressure. It's looking like he could use a cooling off period in the MiLB.
  6. Buxton's "game changing defense" didn't keep him in the MLB. Geez, no kidding. Being close to a guaranteed out every time he stepped up to the plate will sure do that. This time do him a favor: Keep him at AAA for the rest of the year. No bunting. He needs to learn how to take a walk. BTW: promoting Alex Meyer is a pretty simple one. Twins have exhausted their bullpen. If the game gets outta hand early tonight, Meyer can handle the extra innings,as he has been stretched out as a starter in MiLB
  7. It isn't just the soft-tossing. As a former starter, It will take him longer to warm up and it is highly questionable that Milone would ever be "extremely effective" in the pen.
  8. A soft-tossing lefty in the bullpen? IMHO, not really a recipe for success. Definitely not the direction the Twins moving. Power pitchers in the pen!! Milone being traded: kinda laughable based on any reasonable expectation of an upside and a 1 year, $4.5M contract he signed in January. then again, this is the team that once traded Kevin Correa Having watched Berrios pitch only a few times in Spring Training, his fastball is one of the flattest I've ever seen. Maybe that has changed. I really hope so.
  9. When I first brought up SD / MD it was because of my total disdain for Saves. I admit I'm no expert on it, not even close. There's a lot of moving parts to it. FanGraphs does supply a graph: Rating SD MD Excellent 40 2 Great 35 4 Above Average 25 6 Average 20 8 Below Average 15 10 Poor 10 12 Awful 5 15 Stinking Firefox formating....
  10. Sano has been playing right field baked? That explains a lot.
  11. Another year removed from the concussion and VOILA !
  12. "He needed 94 innings (58 strikes) to get through five innings." Probably just seemed like 94 innings :-)
  13. From MLB Rumors: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/minnesota-twins A little snippet: "That means one of Eddie Rosario, Byron Buxton or Miguel Sano is on the hot seat in terms of his starting job, per Neal." Personally, based only on what Rosario and Sano did last year: Buxton is getting a bus ticket.
  14. Good question. After what has happened in the 1st 7 games, why has Tonkin pitched only 1.1 innings?
  15. I don't know about Sano and the off-season. The part I'm confused about is whether or not management ordered Sano to play RF in the winter leagues or not AND who called it off. That I don't understand. Distracted or disgruntled: At 22, I'd say too young to be disgruntled. He has a family that grew up in poverty. But it sounds like they did the best they could and Sano didn't sound disgruntled in the video. I will say, he's probably facing pressure from family like he's never had in his life. And from baseball, too.
  16. "During their last eight days in Fort Myers, they went 8-0, receiving strong outing after strong outing as their starters stretched out to season-ready form." That's my thing: how the heck did they turn from a strong finish to SP to 0-7 in regular season play? Maybe it's over-rating prospects. Or the bullpen. Or starters. Or everyday players. The fallacy of being playoff contenders this year and the perception of having trade-able players of value doesn't help. At best, this is a team that is STILL in building mode. There are some pieces in place for future success, but even those have warts. Strap on that jock strap with Kevlar cup: it's gonna be a bumpy ride.
  17. I'm still hopeful that the plan was to keep a couple 'place holders' until some of those bullpen prospects pan out. Seth, check this out: http://www.fangraphs.com/library/pitching/sd-md/
