  1. On Buxton and pitch recognition: Just like Sano getting called up last year, it's all about the walks. On Sano's K's: Really, is anyone surprised? Pitchers already had a book on him. Here's hoping he adjusts. Finally: It's 2 stinkin' games ...
  2. 1/2 inning completed and you guys are already at 10 pages of comments. Impressive
  3. 81 - 81. E. Santana takes the challenge as the Ace and produces. Gibson stays steady; a plus .500 starter. Hughes and Nolasco fall to injuries, etc. Twins suffer during the acclimation of Duffy and Berrios to the MLB. Tommy Milone stays steady. Twins hitting and defense are a tick above average, which keeps the team average. With hope for a better 2017 with youth being integrated to MLB.
  4. Incredible throw by D. Santana in last nights game. Too bad it ended with a clank off Centeno's glove.
  5. Late 80's, early 90's: them were the days!
  6. Twins organizational response to David Ortiz [ at least it should be.... ] https://youtu.be/FWBUl7oT9sA
  7. Nolasco in the rotation is all on Duffy. Some how, all he heard was "work on your change-up" and missed on the part where he had to earn the job. Nobody set him up.
  8. "working a full count in 28% of his at-bats (hat tip Nick Nelson), but got on via the walk 15.8% of the time." Help me out here. Is the 15.8% walk rate based on total AB's or is it "and of those full count AB's, he walked only 15.8% of the time." ? Is it possible that Sano turns into a triple digit BB/K guy like Thome?
  9. Ok, Homers [and I don't mean the old guy that wrote the Iliad and the Odyssey or the fat, yellow dude] that's a lot of praying. The whole "So, no surprise that he struggled, but his star shines no less bright than it did a year ago" thing is getting long in the tooth. Seeing is believing. His stroke in SP looked a lot better. Pitch recognition is still an issue. Buxton is still a ways from that 5th tool, will probably never get to that level. But the Twins need the rest of the package in CF this year. Options? Yes. Great options? No.
  10. The rotation has guys that have lot's of money and a few years left on their contract. Would it be smart business to just toss them aside and swallow the contracts? No. No business would do something like that. You take that young pitcher [who, BTW, had success in the bullpen last year] and leave him there. That's maximizing what you've got. And I'd probably add, under these circumstances.
  11. Nonsense. Planning for the future is a part of running any business. And right now, you personally liking it or not, the starting rotation is full and there are one or two MiLB pitchers who show some promise. Right now, for the Twins, that's May in the bullpen bridging the gap between starter and closer and, potentially, from Perkins.
  12. If the MiLB starting prospects continue to develop, May is in the right spot. Both as a reliever and future closer.
  13. Plouffe is no Mike Schmidt. There, I said it. Plouffe is solid in the field. The references to messing with Sano's future by putting him in Right Field seem misguided to me. A 260+ guy being bad in RF defensively, but nimble as a ballerina at 3B? And messing with Sano's hitting? Shirley you exaggerate. Sano is a hitter, first and foremost. That's the only real fact about Sano. Yeah, a little exaggeration just for fun Last year was the most games and AB's and it show in drops in BA and OPS in the 2nd half. I expect a tick up in Plouffe's performance this year. But still not Mike Schmidt. Sano, neither.
  14. Well, that's not quite the entire story. Catcher is a position of need for a lot of teams. For the Twins, well, let's just say it's more than that. Yeah, Hicks was a #1 pick for the Twins [ #14 overall], but is still working his way up to that status. With the size of need the Twins have at catcher, I think it's a fair trade. I'm generalizing here a bit, but Hicks, with the advantage of experience, definitely has the edge right now. And I'm a believer he can do more. I'm looking forward to Murphy's development and taking over the starting job.
  15. I'm not sure how relevant those minor league numbers are. If we're leaving out last year, then it looks like 2014 was his last trip down. And it's still MiLB pitchers. I'd really like to see Arcia succeed [ and let's face it, the deck is kinda stacked in his favor ] I just don't see him being successful coming off the bench.
  16. I don't know about Arcia. Are we kinda dreaming that he can be a successful bench guy? He seems to be the type that needs consistent AB's. I'd wouldn't like to see him go, but realistically, is there really a spot for him? Danny Santana makes more sense: multiple positions, contact hitter and swings from both sides of the plate.
  17. Ervin is a character. I like that about baseball. He would be my choice for Opening Day. When focused, he's something else.
  18. Was hoping Murphy would hit better than he has. Centeno was fun to watch.
  19. If I'm the GM: Tonkin is gone. Awful in Spring Training when his job is on the line spells choker to meD. Santana, too. He still deserves a chance, but elsewhere. I like Beresford better as one of the bench guysAnd maybe Arcia, too. Unless something has really changed, he's seems to me to be a guy that needs regular AB's so that his power swing has value.Duffey in the rotation: he deserves it. As has been mentioned, he's been working on his changeup and has been told to not worried too much about his SP stats. Nolasco really hasn't shown me anything.Liked what I saw of Beresford and Centino. Buxton looked better as SP has gone on. I really hope he figures it out, because his defense is effortless and fun to watch. Nick Burdi, JT Chargois, Jake Reed and Mason Melotakis need to get over the whole "more power" mindset and work on secondary pitches.
  20. Interesting to read 4 scouts were on hand to watch Arcia. Maybe a trade or teams eager to claim him off waivers?
  21. Listening to the game yesterday, I like what TR did: he was straight forward and showed respect for May and his potential to be a starter. May took it like a man; he showed respect for the team and those making the decision. Honestly, I don't think there was any super-secret plan involved here to keep May in the BP. He was a victim of his success last year. It is not all that uncommon for a pitcher to come up in MiLB as a starter and begin his MLB career in BP. Chris Sale is one [for 2 years], Adam Wainwright another. May is 26, which makes it a little strange. But that seems like "The Twins Way" when handling MiLB starters.
