Column: Byron Buxton leaves hard decision for Minnesota Twins
HitInAPinch commented on Brian Mozey's blog entry in Blog Brian Mozey
Over his last 24 games [92 AB's], Hicks is hitting .328, 3 2b, 1 3b and 4 HR. Buxton's success is over 19 AB's. Noteworthy, but not a large sample size. Buxton should get a Sept call-up. He's done well. Maybe they'll try Hicks at another OF spot and run Buxton out to CF. With the success that Hicks has had this year, in the MLB, I don't see a NEED to replace Hicks in centerfield with Buxton. A nice problem to have.- 2 comments

Article: On Pitch Framing And Glen Perkins
HitInAPinch replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
When you start talking about things like a players "intent" aren't you also saying that same thing could also be applied to all advanced metrics? Like "The batter intended to hit the ball".- 30 replies

However, Torii has said he wants to retire as a Twin. Guessing that's why the contract has a no-trade clause.

Can't argue with anything you wrote here, Seth. The Twins are in a little bit of a bind: 1st half team or 2nd. I'm saying something in the middle. That means the Twins need to clear space for that "immense talent from the farm system" on the MLB roster. Problem is: I don't think other teams value Twins players as much as Twins fans do.

Willie McGee of St. Louis is another, although I don't really remember him getting hurt that often. Davis, McGee and Lyman Bostock are all that Buxton could become. Just not Davis' power. Maybe, but just can't envision that right now. Buxton's immediate future should be a high protein diet and pumping some iron

IF Yeah, I'll stop you right there. Where a player is ranked on a prospect list doesn't mean anything when you're talking statistics. If we're counting the current MLB stats of Rosario, Buxton and Hicks, it's not pretty. If we give them a mulligan because of their age/experience, then we're not talking statistics again. WAR, too me, is more of a diluting of the pool. Take a player, compare them to the league average player. Good concept. Keeps things like "fear factor" out of the game: Being a hitter facing a N. Ryan or a R. Johnson. Or a pitcher facing a R. Jackson or a B. Bonds. There's a pretty big difference in what you and I think of as "power". A Home Run get's me at least 1 run. Doubles and Triples are extra base hits. Something else has to be in place or needs to happen to get that run. Extra Base Hits, of course, are more democratic

There is something about being a Right fielder: It's sort of a glamor position. Like Reggie Jackson. I just can't get a grip on an outfield with no power like the one most are projecting/clamoring for: Rosario, Buxton and Hicks.

Don't know what it is with Arcia. Probably best to shut him down for the year and get him some time in the Winter Leagues. Vargas seems to be moving in the right direction. Jermaine Palacios: is his long term position 3B?

I don't know what to do about Arcia. Change of scenery may be the best option. "He is a career .600 hitter in AAA." FUNNY! Can anyone point me to video of Buxton's AB's?

Article: The Real Downside Of Buxton's Injury
HitInAPinch replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I've never been as high on Buxton as everyone else seems to be. I view him, development-wise, as following a path similar to Hicks. I'm not saying it will take Buxton 3 tries to stick in the MLB, but wouldn't be surprised if it did. At this point, health and staying healthy is more important that getting a few late season AB's with the Twins. -
How about Sandy Alomar Jr. ? 20yr career, all as a catcher, I believe. All Navarreto needs to do now is: Do it again tomorrow! Baseball can be a cruel mistress

Article: Will The Twins Ever Hit Again?
HitInAPinch replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The league is catching up with the Twins. It's just that simple. Buxton is probably a year or less away; like Hicks a year ago. Dozier had Torii should have been put behind Sano weeks ago. SP got off to a hot start and are now melting. For those still bashing Nunez, this from today's Star Tribune: http://www.startribune.com/twins-nunez-polishes-his-defense/320716011/ He's hitting .254 in a mear 133 AB's and has played 5 different positions [plus DB]. I'd call that a "value add".- 45 replies

I've always been a big fan of rotating MiLB players in and out of the MLB. Over this trade season there's been a HUge difference of opinion on some MiLB players value/propects status. Run them up north and use them a lot. If successful, great! If not, well now you know what they need to work on. Really sad to hear about Alex Meyer's "breakdown". Is it time to shut him down for the season or the proverbial "fish or cut bait" moment??

Arcia reminds me a lot of Greg Luzinski. He's really stiff out there. Buxton: if he follows that same path as Hicks, he certainly produce in MLB. Parker explained it very well here what Hicks did [ commit his front foot ]: http://twinsdaily.com/_/minnesota-twins-news/aaron-hicks-hes-so-hot-right-now-r3994 Kepler: Projectable sweet swing. Like a young Joe Mauer? Rosario: Always been a fan.

Justin Upton straight up for Hicks OR Rosario and they'll also take Nolasco?? Make it Rosario and I'd jump all over this. To me, if Padres insist on Hicks, we gotta have more [whatever that might be]. Twins can use the extra power hitter and an extra free spot on the pitching staff.

HA! Not a single GM on this board If you're serious about improving your team via trade EVERYONE IS AVAILABLE! And if someone asks about Sano, you bet I'd listen. Big talent begets big returns. And, yes, I couldn't get Buxton out the door fast enough.

Article: They Couldn’t. Could They…?
HitInAPinch replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well, the Blue Jays had to designated lefty Felix Doubront for assignment to clear a roster spot for Tulo, but I don't see a corresponding move for Hawkins. I take that as, Hawkins was added to make the trade balance out somehow.- 47 replies
