    "Meyer’s stuff looked crisp. Could he be making his Twins debut this weekend?" I think I'd like to see how A.J. Achter does first. At 26 and a pretty good MiLB numbers and some good numbers with the Twins last year, I like AJ better as a callup than Meyers.

    Rosario is one of those guys who rises to the occasion. I can see at least double digit HR's, a couple Triples or so, and 30+ Doubles. About his call up: As I remember it, It was done because management didn't want to call up Hicks. Wanted him to really prove himself.

    I don't think the final decision will be all that tough. This is just a bunch of silly hand-wringing over, at best, middle of the road pitchers. I start with "Buy low/sell high". If you want something that get somewhat of a decent return, you trade Pelfrey. Yes, you're taking a chance that Pelfrey could really be what we're seeing now. So what? That's the nature of the beast. Gibson also falls into this category. Soft-tossing lefties have something of a successful track record in the fastball-dominate NL. Trade Milone. Gibson also, to a lessor extent, falls into this category. Hughes and May. I warned about the possible fall of Hughes: in season by season stats, Hughes would have one good year [with career high number of innings pitched] only to fall miserably the next year. 2015 = The next year. How could anyone think 16 BB's for the entire season would be sustainable? Every team knows that Hughes WILL put the ball over the plate, the biggest reason I was against the extension. May has been doing well, but very much an 'up and down' guy. I have to reason not to trade either, if trading Hughes s even possible. It still comes down to one thing: What do other teams think of them??

    Great article! With this team, I'm still looking towards the future. Buxton was an emergency call up because the Twins, inexplicably, still don't have sufficient depth in the OF. As of right now, barring a huge shift in management's stance, Buxton returns to AA once Hicks is back. If Buxton has hitting the cover off the ball, completely different story. His recent numbers were very good numbers for MLB. But this was at AA. When promoting from AA, you should see something more like Hicks' AAA seasonal numbers to promote. Mauer is what he is right now. If they contemplated Joe and an OF'er, that should have been done a couple years ago. Any move I'd make would be to DH, for defensive purposes. Vargas to 1st. Because at some point you need to find out who's the long-term answer at 1st. What the heck is going on with Arcia? Is he playing his way into being the next Wilken Ramirez? He needs to be given a wakeup call and a ticket to Chattanooga. Sano [a 3rd bagger until PROVEN otherwise], Walker and Kepler: leave them alone. They're right where they need to be, right now. Maybe a year or 2 away. But I never say never :-)

    I'm curious about Danny Santana. How do I get a list of what positions he's been play in MiLB?

    Well, in 6 games as a reliever, 10.2 innings: 15K's. YEA!! Oh, and 7 hits, 6 BB's. Err, not, um, good. He obviously needs more time to work on his motion/pitches, clear his head, or generally get his fecal material in a stable configuration. We know the reason why management moved him to the bullpen and it has nothing to so with making him into a reliever. It's an attempt to easy some of the self inflicted pressure. I think it would be an enormous mistake to plan on his role with the Twins as anything other than a starter.

    Oops, left out: the part where he faced live pitching during those BP sessions [granted, some of those pitchers were recovering from injuries ] and the part where he was fully ready to participate in spring training, 3/2015. My bad. It was 12 months from surgery to ST. I account his poor BA to showing off, more than anything. Nothing wrong with that, as long as it works Yes, Sano out performed Schwarber since April 30 slightly. I still argue that for [not 100% health, not seeing enough live BP, being a dope and swinging from his jock strap, whatever] reason, I'm still picking Schwarber way over Sano if for no other reason than he was healthy all season with incredible stats.

    So, you're going to compare Sano's partial to Schwarber's, what exactly? Timeline: Surgery 3/12/2014 throwing program by 6/20, 7/7 light throwing 8/18 swinging bat 8/26 full BP 2/19/2015 reported to be fully recovered. 5/1/2015 Lookouts hitting coach Chad Allen ""Early in the year, he's really tried to do too much," Allen said, per MLB.com. "He's got a lot of strength and everybody that faces him knows he's a strong man and can hit the ball a long way. At the same time, he himself is trying to do too much. "We hit early today and just really tried to slow him down and let the ball come to him. Let him understand he doesn't have to exert himself just to hit the ball hard." Allen was encouraged with Sano's approach Thursday, especially when he hit his home run. "Tonight was a great judgment on what he was thinking, that he wasn't trying to do too much," Allen said. "He took an 80-percent swing with two strikes on a fastball in and hit a home run. It's just a matter of him relaxing, calming down a bit and letting the game come to him." In other words, Sano was healthy, was over swinging, took advice,understood it and executed on that advice and improved. The stats still count.

    I'm not questioning the fact that Sano is on a roll. However, you can't overlook the seasonal comparison between the 2. Sano's numbers for the season: .257 .358 .505 .863 Schwaber's numbers for the season: .320 .438 .579 1.017 [holy crap, he's a catcher, too!] No knock on Sano, but based on the totality of his stats, Schwaber forced the Cubs to promote him, if only for 6 days.

    A month sounds about right. There's a penchant here in TD-land to slice and dice statistics. Sano's last 10 games were really good! Are they sustainable over the course of a month? I'd like to see if Sano has really knocked off all the rust from the TJ surgery.

    I agree partially in what jimbo92107 said. Maybe the change to be more aggressive at the plate may have hurt Joe's overall approach. He was pretty good at working the count. That combined with what is most likely lingering affects of the concussions may be affecting his eyes. It's really a sad thing to watch. And, NO, Joe will not be a catcher ever again.

    Another great article, John. I was never so proud of the Twins when Tom Kelley walked Knoblauch out to left, started motioning to the fans in the cheap seat to settle down and then pointed out to Metrodome security the unruly culprits and they got marched out. I miss Tom......

    HAVING THE VALUE OF HINDSIGHT In this mornings Strib: "but Twins manager Paul Molitor said this move is more about circumstance than Buxton’s play. With Aaron Hicks sidelined by a sore elbow (he’s likely headed for the disabled list) and Torii Hunter serving a two-game ­suspension, a ­sudden shortage of outfielders prompted the Twins to debut the No. 2 overall pick from the 2012 draft." Down to 1 player on the bench, all Molitor had to do was call Terry Ryan. In that same article, Molitor had a lot of nice things to say about Buxton. And adds no small amount of caution. Oh yeah: MORE TRIPLES, PLEASE!

    Aaron's failure last night certainly didn't help his case at all I concede the point. I've always said that Hicks would not be successful in MLB, although I really hoped he could be. I think a change in scenery would be best for him. I still don't feel a need to bring up Buxton from AA, taking the same path as Hicks. Surely it would make everyone feel like Twins management is actually trying to win, but I wouldn't want to risk another "Hicks" situation. Send Buxton to AAA NOW and let's see how he handles advanced pitching!

    What's the rush? Aaron Hicks is already there in CF. After all the clamoring for him to get called up, is he no longer in the CF plans?

    7 game hitting streak and he's taking some walks. If he keeps it up for another week, promote to AAA and see what he does against more advanced pitching.

    Ah, the week the Twins fell back to earth. This is not a contending team. However, they are competitive. That's a big step above the past 4 years. Frankly, after the 2nd 90 loss season, I'd have a tough time being excited to show-up for work. I think Allen is a refreshing change from Anderson and along with the maturing of May and Gibson the starting staff is now MLB competent.

    According to Len3, "The Twins have 10 days to trade him, release him or send him to the minors." I'm very curious to see what management does. I can't see keeping Stauffer in the minors [potentially backing up the progress of younger pitchers with higher expectations], or trading Stauffer [are there truely THAT many suckers in the MLB world?]. If they release him, I'm assuming the Twins would still owe him the money. That out be an incredible turn around for Twins ownership. And I highly endorse it!
