Article: Reasons For Optimism
HitInAPinch replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A few things come to mind.... Nolasco has won 5 in a row because Twins batters have put up big numbers. Nolasco needs to replicate last nights numbers. Twins hitters seem to have figured out that jumping on pitchers early can lead to greater success. Last nights fun fact: every starter got a hit. Big deal. Every starter 4-9 in the lineup had at least 2 hits! Has the move of Escobar back to starting SS begun? Is Danny Santana having pressure issues playing SS? Is that why he had so much success when playing CF last year? Twins still need Hicks to hit. Kennys Vargas looks like he getting relaxed at AAA And once and for all, this just in from Terry Ryan.............. The move to the bullpen is only temporary, Ryan reiterated. “He’s got probably the best stuff we have in the organization, as a starter. Maybe this will be a good situation for him,” the general manager said. “We want to get him straightened out and back in the rotation.”- 44 replies

New Opportunities Await Twins In Chicago
HitInAPinch commented on Ted Schwerzler 's blog entry in Off The Baggy
1. The White Sox have a nice run going 2. There's no way Sale will be as bad as he was the last time facing the Twins 3. They're playing at home 4. You know they're gonna remember they got swept by the Twins. My money is on the White Sox. I hope I'm wrong... -
Article: Clutch Joe Mauer Is Suddenly An RBI Machine
HitInAPinch replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Again, it's been reported that Joe's left leg is health for the 1st time in over a year. That's the leg he drives off of. The Summer months are upon us and we should see an up-tick from all hitters. Beginning his 12th year, he still has a .318 lifetime BA. Of course he's declining. The biggest issue is: who's ready to take over 1st? -
Article: Draft Prep: Twins Outfield Depth
HitInAPinch replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In the MiLB, there seems to be several/many "wait and see" types. Right now, this moment in time, that includes Buxton. The hope is that there is now enough OF talent at the MLB level to give the MiLB talent another year to mature. "Escobar has been playing a lot of left field, for some reason." This just makes me sick. Stunning waste of talent, especially considering Santana's problems, so far. Arcia, Robinson and Hunter have shown their worth. Schafer has not [probably never will], Rosario probably needs AAA time to calm down a little and Hicks may have finally arrived. Time will tell. If things go well, the Twins will probably need to focus on both middle INF and OF in this draft.- 14 replies

Article: Draft Prep: Twins Middle Infield Depth
HitInAPinch replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My take is the Twins definitely need to be drafting more INF talent. A lot more. What they have right now seems to be a nice mix, but my gut feeling is they'll need them sooner rather than later.- 8 replies

Article: Kepler Shows Breakout Potential
HitInAPinch replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Wow, a potential keeper who weighs less that 250! -
I'm with you on Meyer. Something got to him and he could use a change in scenery. And kudo's to everyone for not mentioning Steve Blass. Oh, crap.....

He started failing right after he was told he was going back down in spring training. I'm wondering if a round-trip ticket to AA would be helpful. They really need to do something with him. I'm amongst the group that says moving Meyer to the bullpen would be a waste of talent.

Actually, I didn't know that. I was thinking more of humidity on a pitcher's ability to grip the baseball. There's almost nothing in internet search engines about it, but I did find one: Quora "The best answer to any question" Does humidity affect the break of breaking pitches in baseball? The simple answer is "yes" because humidity allows a pitcher to get a better grip on the ball. A better grip, i.e., one that doesn't slip as the pitch is delivered, allows for greater precision in pitching mechanics.

I'll shoot out my 2 words of wisdom on Milone and pitchers like him 1. He's throwing a lot of breaking balls against minor league hitters. His success isn't all that surprising. 2. Pitchers who make their living on slow-moving change-ups and curves have much more success pitching in locations where the humidity is high. Like Durham [current humidity 76%] and Rochester [current humidity 75%].

Article: Tommy Milone: Making A Statement
HitInAPinch replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Of the list, the only scenario that makes sense [as far as a return to MLB] is #2. #3 is the dumbest, followed shortly by #1. #4 is most likely to happen. The "why" is simple: There doesn't seem to be much of a vision in the Front Office. Seriously, how can you create a logjam with the likes of Nolacso, Pelfry, Stauffer and Boyer?- 73 replies

Trevor Plouffe is a decent MLB 3rd bagger. Sano and Buxton are a probably Aug-Sept callup to keep the fans happy. Maybe they'll pick it up more as the weather get hotter. So I wouldn't be jumping up and down making plans for Plouffe's future. Moving him to another position at age 29 would degrade his trade value.

Article: What To Make Of Eddie Rosario?
HitInAPinch replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A tranquilizer shot in the butt would help :-) Paul Molitor has been quoted many times on how much he likes the way Rosario plays the game. On May 15: “He’s obviously trying too hard,” Twins manager Paul Molitor said. “I’ve watched him play and have a lot of at-bats in the minor leagues. I haven’t seen him swing and miss as much as he has here, particularly as of late.” Rosario now has a rep: throw him ANYTHING and he'll swing at it. I think Molitor really wants a chance to work with Rosario a bit longer. He still most likely will be sent back down. -
Article: Aaron Hicks' New Swing Paying Dividends
HitInAPinch replied to Kevin's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"From both sides of the plate, Hicks has adopted a pronounced leg kick with lots of hand movement as he prepares to load for his swing." It depends on what "lot's of hand movement" means. Typically, any decent pitcher/catcher combo will start busting that batter inside on a regular basis and jam the heck outta him. Or does Hicks stop as the pitcher starts to deliver? Like David Ortiz.. Damn, now I'm thinking I need to spend the extra $11 a month to get FSN on DirecTV -
Homers are nice, but I'd still like to see Miguel walk more and just try making more contact.

Article: Twins Daily Top 10 Twins Prospects Update
HitInAPinch replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Question: why is Rosario in the Top 20 and not Hicks? I still believe Rosario's callup was a message for Hicks simply because, otherwise, it doesn't make much statistical sense. As opposed to common From Rosario's promotion date, May 4th, Aaron Hicks had 11 hits in 24AB's. From May 3rd to his promotion, it's 14 hits in 29 AB's and Hicks raised his BA from .301 to .336. I hope Rosario can kick it in gear soon. And I think this time around Hicks can keep focused and have a successful career.- 21 replies

Article: Twins Outfield Of The Future Begins
HitInAPinch replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
With the way Molitor likes to mix things around, will there truly be a 4th outfielder? Having either Buxton or Hicks playing anything other that CF seems like a waste of talent to me. Hicks will probably be the key as to who stays and who goes. #1 is keeping his head in the game. He seems to have gotten the hitting thing down. After his 1st 11 games at AAA he was hitting .250. In his next 16, he went hitless only twice and raise his average by 86 points. Looking at Buxton's game stats, it looks like he might be still working off some rust. He'll have to crank out some Hicks April 22 - May 11 numbers to get called up this year. -
Article: Is The Rotation Turning Around?
HitInAPinch replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Alex Meyer, Taylor Rogers, Pat Dean and Jose Berrios. And not a single spot available. I think Gibson will be fine, just needs to be a little more careful with the walks. Hughes: Batters are well aware of his 16 BB's in 209 innings last year. He needs to think more like the "Anti-hit-to-contact" guy. Maybe buzz a few batters under the chin. Otherwise, this could be a really ugly year for Hughes.- 39 replies

Article: It's Time For Aaron Hicks
HitInAPinch replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My list of IF's 1. IF the Twins are still hovering around .500 at the All Star break [July 14] 2. IF Hicks is still on a hitting rampage at the All Star break AND is focused 3. IF the Schaefer/Robinson collective are still a mediocre combo in CF 4. THEN it's time to bring up Hicks. -
Article: It's Time For Aaron Hicks
HitInAPinch replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
With Hicks, the stats are of less importance than the person. Or do I have to quote Paul Molitor again :-) This line from Nick's article says it all: "Throughout spring training, most expected that Hicks would end up winning the center field job, if only for a lack of better options. But Hicks had a tough spring, highlighted by a few notable gaffes and mental blunders, and ultimately the lesser options prevailed." re: Hicks' assumed he had the job and sloughed off. This is the kind of stuff that Molitor talked about. Molitor wants the whole package before Hicks is brought up again. -
In the previous game Sano was 3 for 5, all singles. Somebody got to him and one of the big reasons I was against Mientkiewicz becoming the Twins manager. They need a guy like him in the MiLB developing players.
