    Still only 23 [for a couple months] and only 1 year with Brunansky, I'm expecting his hitting to be significantly better this year. I haven't seen him enough times to make a judgement on his defense. Only video clips. Start typing up the contract extension now, Jeremy!

    I got curious about who started the "5 tool talent" thing. From Sporting News: "Branch Rickey first coined the term "Five Tool" Player (The five tools are hitting for average, hitting for power, baserunning skills/speed, throwing, and fielding) in his book "The American Diamond." At the time, Rickey could name only two true "Five Tool" players — Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle, both center fielders at the time."

    Thank Scott Boras for that :-) More teams started resigning their own free agents to big contracts because it seemed like they had no other choice if they wanted to stay competitive. So, with fewer options, the Yankees ended up going after aging free agents like Beltran and are finally suffering for the ridiculously long guaranteed they been giving away like candy on Halloween. A terrible thing to watch :-)

    With so many pitchers in the running for the final spot, Meyer didn't have much of a chance. It sounds like he wasn't in a good frame of mind for that last appearance. 5 2/3 innings just isn't enough. Some one should reach out to Randy Johnson and see if he's available for a pep talk.

    From the Strib: “You can tell he starts getting sped up, and mechanically … he flies open a little bit and loses that release point,” the Twins manager said. This, and the "arm slot" discussion here: does it ring a bell? Meyer is the righthanded version of Randy Johnson.

    Another pitcher that may be called up this year? COOL! The question that keeps popping up in my head is why did they sign E. Santana and resign Pelfry?

    That's good news on Gibson. Strikeouts are sexy, but who cares if the hitters keep pounding the ball into the ground. Plus, a sinkerball pitcher keeps infielders more alert. IMHO, if we're talking about a lineup in the traditional sense, then I would not put either in a spot above #4. From the reports I've been reading, Dozier is sounding more like a dead pull hitter. Again "lineup in the traditional sense" you want that #2 guy hitting the other way at times and has a lot less that an average of 120k's over the past 2 years. Mauer is still "fast for a catcher". With the potential of a lot of young hitters in the lineup, I think it would make more sense to have both offering some protection behind them.

    I like the boy's view on Rosario and Hicks. I can live with Schaefer for a couple months as a CF starter. Let them swing away in AAA. If one proves himself there, at person is your starter for the future. The other, trade bait. Also like their views on the player evaluations in the minors.

    "made it clear that he had offers coming in from multiple teams that made it to the postseason or were contending to the end." Funny, in the latest Gleeman & the Geek they were talking about how many players say exactly the same thing.

    The last stats I saw on Sano, his 2 HR's were his only hits in 10 AB's. He also struck out twice. Upside, he walked 3 times. He needs to shake off some rust and get a better handle on breaking balls. I haven't read any stories on this throwing, so I'm assuming the elbow is OK.

    That 1977 team was one of the greater disappointments. There were so many good/great player on that team [Carew, Bostock, Hisle, Goltz, who threw 303 innings that year]. The rest of the team was, politely, not good. No other hitter with an average over .265. No other starting pitcher with more wins than loses and their closer was as close to a bullpen starter as you can get: 146 inning, 3.13 era, 16-7 record and 15 saves. Oh, what could have been.....

    This is a very good thing! That toe-tap was really messing him up, especially from the left side. The leg kick keeps him from leaning away from the pitch. Will it help him like it help Kirby Puckett? I really hope so! It's the mental side that I'm still concerned about. That gaffe yesterday is not a good sign and Molitor did the right thing.

    Just tossing this headline out there. It's from an investment site I follow. "Don't Be Fooled By The Nattering Naybobs Of Negativism" I don't give much credence to national writers who give us a lot of "Yeah, but" type explanations.

    What's going on [if anything] with Danny Santana? I didn't see his name in the box-score yesterday. Seth, as it stands right now, I'd say you're right on. I'd really like to see more youth on this team, but TR's spending is killing that idea. Milone would make a lot more sense if the rest of the starting staff had more power in their fastball. Hughes and Gibson would/may be more effective as well.

    Oh, my. Over eating? Give him a strict diet? OR, do we all have a really short memory? Sano had Tommy John surgery on his right shoulder. Recovery time needs to include a period where he can not workout. That's why he weights whatever he weights right now. That's also the reason why he will not be in the majors this year unless he makes enormous strides in conditioning and performance and gets a call-up when rosters are expanded at the end of the year.

    Would be nice to see an add-on to this article on how the prospects in camp are doing so far. Example: How is Sano's arm? Has the scar tissue "broken" yet?

    Question on Sano: How's his arm? I've watched a video of his 1st cage session after surgery. Doesn't tell me much. The reports from Spring Training say he's hitting bombs during hitting practice. What's his throwing like? Has the scar tissue broken yet? BACK TO THE SUBJECT :-) I am hopeful for several of the young hitters, mostly because of Brunansky. He seems to have their ears. I'm sort of hopeful for Plouffe. He might just be a late bloomer. And like many, I think this may be a breakthrough year for Arcia. Doubling walks from last year, which could increase his doubles, would really round his offense out. Defense? You've already read my opinions on that....

    I still think $10m is too much. My recollection it was the Twins vs. Rangers for his services. But the way I'm looking at it now, who else is there to play in the OF? They were running INF's out there last year.

    I was there on the day that Baron von Raschke was in the stands!! He was a GREAT character in person. Here's another one for you: I don't know if it's still there, but there was a small passenger train that ran around the Minneapolis lakes. James Donald Raschke was the conductor.
