  1. I'm wondering if those young pitchers are feeling the weight of over-expectations and simply overthrowing. The Twins should keep the auditions rolling so we really know what they've got. Upon further review just ran across and interesting [and old] name: LaTroy Hawkins. What about it? At 42 he may have a little gas left in the tank.
  2. The Twins seem to have accumulated more than a few ancient mariners :-) I'd probably be rotating them in and out, 2 at a time. And I'd definitely keep the auditions rolling. Twins need [and have the time] to find out what they really have. I'm also intrigued at the possibility of bringing up a Berrios, Rogers or Duffey just to get a look. Oh, and there's always Pelfrey. He still gets another chance as a started, but I think he's done.
  3. I would take a shot with Frasor, but you gotta know what you're getting. 37 yrs. old, 24 hits + 15 walks in 23 innings. I'd give him a shot. Same with Neftali Feliz.
  4. I don't know if I've seen another MiLB hitter come up and have AB's like Sano!
  5. 1. Biggest problem with the shortstops is the sporadic playing time they're getting. It's the classic hit vs. fielding between Nunez and D Santana. Escobar showed both last year and I still feel he should have been the shoo-in starter this year. 2. I like Rosario a lot. He looks like a classic LF'er, who is a good fill-in at CF. Hicks' stats don't show it, but he's performing a lot better at the plate. I think he may just needs more AB's. Buxton: AAA. He's got something weird going on with his swing. Hunter is solid and replaceable. If Arcia get's his head on straight, he may be the answer. 3. IMHO, May is in the pen for a very short time. Pelfrey is imploding, NY Mets-style. He gets 1 maybe 2 starts and he's out. Agree on Milone and Nolasco. 4. OMG.... If I'm in charge of a bullpen that's deeply into auditioning, everyone is on a short leash. After some success, they get 2 bad outings before they get sent down. Correct the problems at AAA.
  6. I'm with you on Parmelee. When he was given playing time, he produced. But the Twins kept moving him around, playing him in CF at times. Parmelee was lucky to get out of MN.
  7. 4 games, 15 AB's. I'm not remotely concerned about the HR's. I really like his approach at the plate and his attention to what's going on in teammates AB's. Now comes the big test: adjustments. Sano will start seeing a bevy of sliders. He seems to have the quick bat to be able to adjust.
  8. I've been waiting a long time to see Pelfrey pitch, especially after his recent outings. He is exactly as he was with the Mets: he teases for a few starts and them completely implodes. It starts with overthrowing, then he gets frustrated and has something like a mental breakdown on the field. Molitor looked like he could get him off the field soon enough. I think Molitor's statement that May's move to the bullpen made most sense for the short-term and sending May down "would be helpful in terms of keeping him ready to help us if something happens to one of our guys." I'm thinking short-term = Mike Pelfrey's next start. The "something happens" is Pelfrey imploding again.
  9. No, he already wants to be traded to a better team. LOL
  10. With the Twins rapidly disintegrating bullpen, I venture to guess Berrios is the next callup.
  11. I really hope Aaron Slegers pans out. However, I see "6-10", "He has terrific control" and "He doesn’t throw hard, sitting between 90 and 92, but he has a good slider." and I say RUN FOR THE HILLS. We've seldom seen these types of pitchers pan out to more than a middle reliever.
  12. I think the bigger thing for me is, that actually went out and signed a player like Javier.
  13. A cold slap of reality from Mr. P. Reusse. Ouch ! http://www.startribune.com/let-sano-concentrate-on-being-the-twins-dh/311355231/ Even Rand is backpedaling a little: http://www.startribune.com/sano-like-other-twins-prospects-needs-time-to-grow/311339931/ What I'm most curious about with Sano is how he'll react to being a DH, if that is in fact where the Twins will put him. Will he be able to maintain the level of concentration needed between AB's to be able to hit. Not many can do that on a full-time basis. Off the top of my head, Molitor, Ortiz and Martinez are the only 3 I can think of.
  14. Just when I was gonna start cursing both Arcia and Hicks names again, they done went and did something good.
  15. I'd be pretty stunned if Sano were successful in the next 3 weeks. Nothing against Sano, but what's the Twins recent history in moving a player from AA to MLB? If his hitting doesn't improve over 3 weeks, he needs more MiLB time (AA to rebuild confidence and a quick jump to AAA). If he really is successful (i.e. continued improvement, similar to Eddie Rosario) he's good to go the rest of the year and beyond.
  16. Miguel Sano HAS been called up. So sayeth LEN3 http://www.startribune.com/minnesota-twins-lose-2-1-to-reds-with-reserve-filled-lineup/311269081/ To me, it's pretty admirable what the Twins have done (41-37) with what they have. Sano is what will be a continuing line of auditions from the Twins farm system. They can't be happy with the 2 guys that were successful last year (Vargas and Santana) or Hicks this year (+2), Buxton not improving at least somewhat at the plate (now hurt again and out for a month) and the group of relievers that has been a mixed bag. Rosario is the only one really hanging in there. I wish the best of luck to Sano. The big club could really use it.
  17. I'm with Mientkiewicz. In the real world, Buxton would have stayed at AA for at least a little while longer, followed by time at AAA. However, in the alternative universe known as Twins Baseball, the MLB team ran out of outfielders, AGAIN! Seriously, why mess with a kid's growth when you got outfielders hanging around in Rochester waiting for a chance? Completely agree with "Next Steps". I still have doubts in his ability to hit at MLB level, mostly because of his front foot. Even with that, he hit this ball on the screws!! http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/69622576/v167167883/?query=buxton
  18. As far as being in MN right now: From the Pioneer Press a couple days ago: "Twins general manager Terry Ryan doesn't think Miguel Sano's bat is big-league ready." Here's the link: http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_28398169/minnesota-twins-not-rushing-miguel-sano-call-up I think Sano should be promoted to AAA. A maybe on Kepler. In 58 games, his stats are really impressive and a pretty good jump from the rest of his MiLB stats. If he keeps it up over the next couple weeks,Kepler is AAA bound as well.
  19. Oh, if you offer a play enough money, they'd still sign. It really is that simple
  20. IDK, 1 HR every 2-3 games seems like an awful lot.
  21. I'm still not a believer the Twins are a real contender for a playoff spot. I'd be happy with .500+. Hughes, perceived #1 or not, is the first one I'd trade. He has more value than the rest of the staff and showing some life. Twins may actually get something for him. Trevor May: just when you think he's got it figured out, he get's tagged hard and often. Let him work it out and re-evaluate at the end of the year. And I don't think sending any of the current starting staff to the bullpen will really be of any benefit. Billy Hamilton: that's an easy one. Treat him the same way teams treated Vince Coleman. Ignore him. Let him steal bases because he doesn't get on base often enough to make those steals all that valuable. I wouldn't risk a ball ending up in centerfield.
  22. I think the Twins should continue the auditioning of their MiLB prospects. You gotta find out if they're for real at some point.
  23. You're on a roll today Parker! This all seems to be following along the plan Ryan and Molitor talked about. Get Meyer in game situations where there is less stress, work on his mechanics and strategy and just generally let it fly. Really liked that he shook off Pinto to throw back to back curveballs. That says a lot. Some bullpen work in the Majors as a status check. If it works out, Meyer works in the bullpen the rest of the year and get's stretched out for starting next year.
  24. In the brief stints that he's been in the MLB, I think he's acquitted himself very well. I thought that was all at 2B, but Baseball Reference says SS. Oh, to hear Jim Kaat say "San Pedro de Macoris" just one more time
  25. I don't think moving any established MLB player to another position for Polanco would make a lot of sense. Especially since the Twins moved Dozier off SS, possibly because they thought he couldn't handle it. Twins management seem to be locked in on D. Santana as the SS of the future. I'd still like to see him in CF. Buxton still gets at least another week audition.
