  1. and here I was gonna say my mommy......
  2. Seriously, what took you people so long? Rosario impressed the heck out of Molitor in Spring Training. And continues to impress him with his in game adjustments, like yesterday. He works hard and has the desire to play better. He is rock solid.
  3. I agree with you to a point. In the case of Pete Rose, as manager he also could have had a direct impact on the results of his team. So, I'd agree with you on that. However, what those employee's of the Cardinals did brings into question the integrity of the game. I don't believe we know how far these rocket scientists went, but it's not too hard to imagine what they could have done. Like engineer a trade of Carlos Correa and George Springer to the Twins for Ricky Nolasco and Doug Bernier
  4. I honestly don't know what I'd do with Hicks at this point. When (if Ryan and Molitor follow their original plan) they move Buxton back to the minors, I think I'd play Hicks every day to see if he improves. History says he won't, but I'd still give him that last chance.
  5. I'm very surprise no one asked this question, so i will If the FBI investigation proves St. Louis personnel "hacked" into the Houston Astro's database and stole information, will the Cardinal's organization or the individuals be treated exactly like Pete Rose??
  6. Well, the Twins did at one time have Mike Marshall working for them. He was a PHD in kinesiology
  7. Otherwise, there would be no need for the 2 Leagues, correct?
  8. Great article! With this team, I'm still looking towards the future. Buxton was an emergency call up because the Twins, inexplicably, still don't have sufficient depth in the OF. As of right now, barring a huge shift in management's stance, Buxton returns to AA once Hicks is back. If Buxton has hitting the cover off the ball, completely different story. His recent numbers were very good numbers for MLB. But this was at AA. When promoting from AA, you should see something more like Hicks' AAA seasonal numbers to promote. Mauer is what he is right now. If they contemplated Joe and an OF'er, that should have been done a couple years ago. Any move I'd make would be to DH, for defensive purposes. Vargas to 1st. Because at some point you need to find out who's the long-term answer at 1st. What the heck is going on with Arcia? Is he playing his way into being the next Wilken Ramirez? He needs to be given a wakeup call and a ticket to Chattanooga. Sano [a 3rd bagger until PROVEN otherwise], Walker and Kepler: leave them alone. They're right where they need to be, right now. Maybe a year or 2 away. But I never say never :-)
  9. I'm curious about Danny Santana. How do I get a list of what positions he's been play in MiLB?
  10. Well, in 6 games as a reliever, 10.2 innings: 15K's. YEA!! Oh, and 7 hits, 6 BB's. Err, not, um, good. He obviously needs more time to work on his motion/pitches, clear his head, or generally get his fecal material in a stable configuration. We know the reason why management moved him to the bullpen and it has nothing to so with making him into a reliever. It's an attempt to easy some of the self inflicted pressure. I think it would be an enormous mistake to plan on his role with the Twins as anything other than a starter.
  11. When was the last time there was a player/coach in the MLB? Gotta admit I seriously doubt Torii would accept the offer...
  12. It the BEARD!! Make him shave off THE BEARD!!
  13. Beat me to it! My thoughts are along the lines of...maybe a couple weeks...hoping for at least a few AB's at AAA...for sure Sept. The 1st quote was: An abrupt call-up like Buxton’s? “Sure, it’s possible,”. And this: “We talk to the people down there about his at-bats, what he’s doing well and what he’s not doing so well, what will get exposed up here and what won’t,” Molitor said. “It’s nice to see that he’s trending into playing better.” Molly is trying to moderate expectations for Sano. And after reading 5 pages of comments here, it ain't working on TD'ers
  14. Gods, why did I think of that?? Brilliant
  15. Oops, left out: the part where he faced live pitching during those BP sessions [granted, some of those pitchers were recovering from injuries ] and the part where he was fully ready to participate in spring training, 3/2015. My bad. It was 12 months from surgery to ST. I account his poor BA to showing off, more than anything. Nothing wrong with that, as long as it works Yes, Sano out performed Schwarber since April 30 slightly. I still argue that for [not 100% health, not seeing enough live BP, being a dope and swinging from his jock strap, whatever] reason, I'm still picking Schwarber way over Sano if for no other reason than he was healthy all season with incredible stats.
  16. So, you're going to compare Sano's partial to Schwarber's, what exactly? Timeline: Surgery 3/12/2014 throwing program by 6/20, 7/7 light throwing 8/18 swinging bat 8/26 full BP 2/19/2015 reported to be fully recovered. 5/1/2015 Lookouts hitting coach Chad Allen ""Early in the year, he's really tried to do too much," Allen said, per MLB.com. "He's got a lot of strength and everybody that faces him knows he's a strong man and can hit the ball a long way. At the same time, he himself is trying to do too much. "We hit early today and just really tried to slow him down and let the ball come to him. Let him understand he doesn't have to exert himself just to hit the ball hard." Allen was encouraged with Sano's approach Thursday, especially when he hit his home run. "Tonight was a great judgment on what he was thinking, that he wasn't trying to do too much," Allen said. "He took an 80-percent swing with two strikes on a fastball in and hit a home run. It's just a matter of him relaxing, calming down a bit and letting the game come to him." In other words, Sano was healthy, was over swinging, took advice, understood it and executed on that advice and improved. The stats still count.
  17. I'm not questioning the fact that Sano is on a roll. However, you can't overlook the seasonal comparison between the 2. Sano's numbers for the season: .257 .358 .505 .863 Schwaber's numbers for the season: .320 .438 .579 1.017 [holy crap, he's a catcher, too!] No knock on Sano, but based on the totality of his stats, Schwaber forced the Cubs to promote him, if only for 6 days.
  18. A month sounds about right. There's a penchant here in TD-land to slice and dice statistics. Sano's last 10 games were really good! Are they sustainable over the course of a month? I'd like to see if Sano has really knocked off all the rust from the TJ surgery.
  19. Wow, Eddie Bane. Haven't heard that name in a long time. He really got treated like crap. Other names? Willie Banks and Adam Johnson are the biggest pitcher names I can think of. There was also the mishandling of Pete Redfern. Maybe I got the wrong pitcher there. Maybe Brad Havens. Anyway, back to back starts against Detroit, who were killing teams at that point. Dave McCarthy was another one of those players who you see the first time and think "this guy isn't gonna last long" and ends up with and 11year career. With 7 teams.
  20. I agree partially in what jimbo92107 said. Maybe the change to be more aggressive at the plate may have hurt Joe's overall approach. He was pretty good at working the count. That combined with what is most likely lingering affects of the concussions may be affecting his eyes. It's really a sad thing to watch. And, NO, Joe will not be a catcher ever again.
  21. Another great article, John. I was never so proud of the Twins when Tom Kelley walked Knoblauch out to left, started motioning to the fans in the cheap seat to settle down and then pointed out to Metrodome security the unruly culprits and they got marched out. I miss Tom......
  22. I'm with you, Seth! Although when it comes to the Rand articles, I'm more on the "insufferable gas-bag" side than the "he's over my head" side Buxton is what he is: physically talented and listed as a "5-tool" talent. Problem is: these 2 things do not always lead to baseball success. Two names: Kirby Puckett and Harmon Killebrew. IF Buxton pans out, he could be the next Lyman Bostock. The Buxton flip side: Do not forget: he was an emergency call up because Paul Molitor was essentially down to a single bench player. And, yes, Buxton showed progress over the past few weeks. In the non-emergency world of baseball, Buxton would have earned a promotion to AAA. What I have seen in videos of his AB's at AA and yesterday, he still has that tap tap thing going. Martinez took advantage in his first AB ending it with a breaking ball [slider] down and out of the strikezone. Right now, as a MLB player, Buxton is closer to Hicks 2.0 than Bostock. He'll get ample AB's in MLB to get a better read on his hitting skills, but I'm expecting a return to AA in a couple weeks. Work on that bizarre tap tap thing, smooth it out and target and late July move to AAA and a Sept call up.
  23. Hang on here: Seth, is it a misprint or are you actually saying Joe Mauer didn't make it? He was an elite catcher. And I'd go on to say far beyond any catcher we've ever seen before. He is the only catcher in MLB history to win three batting titles, and the only catcher to ever win a batting title in the American League. He also won three consecutive Gold Glove awards (2008–2010), and the 2009 American League (AL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award. Then the injuries started piling up..... Personally, I've been consistent on my evaluation of Buxton, starting with my comment "Beware of the 5-tool player". I blame Sabermetrics as part of the problem. It's a nice set of statistics to slice and dice a players performance. But in the end, my belief it only servers the purposes of the fantasy leagues. i.e. making them seem better than they really are. Beyond that, I personally really appreciate the work you do in keeping us informed on ALL of the Twins players and prospects in the MiLB. It's refreshing!
  24. Molitor has already said yes. And Buxton will not be hitting leadoff.
  25. I think the Twins management should to Hicks a favor and trade him to another team. Maybe bag a A & AA players. I believe Hicks needs a reboot.
