  1. I'm with Terry Ryan, who [basically] said "Good hitters hit righties and lefties." I can't stand even the thought of rotating players. In my book, that's a half a player. The thing that intrigues me about JR Murphy is his bat. In 172 PA's, he hit .277, which followed a .284 in 85 PA's. Pretty good stuff for a part time player. Combined, Chris Herrmann and Eric Fryer over .100 points less than that. I get that defense is prized at catcher, but there's no reason to be satisfied with a black hole offensively. I like Hicks a lot, I think we could have seen a lot more from him this year. I think Murphy was a need trade and the Twins did pretty good.
  2. Relief Pitchers are a tough call. More of a gamble, really. One really good year and they cash in. I'd be interested in Darren O'Day. 33 yrs. old, yes. But after 4 amazing years. The Baltimore Sun speculates O'Day could get a contract like Luke Gregerson got: three years and $18.5 million. As a side-armer, could he perform at a high level for those 3 years? More than anything, I'd like to see a bunch of those hard-throwing MiLBers breakthrough and take the job.
  3. I don't get that either. Not nearly enough reps there to make a decision.
  4. "With the Aaron Hicks trade, it may be more possible that Byron Buxton will make the team right out of spring training." Sounds about right. This past year, people had to get hurt before Buxton got called up. This time, had to get rid of someone. I'd like to see him force his way onto the team. I don't understand why people keep saying Sano in LF. Rosario had pretty darn good 1st year. If Sano's not going to be a good defender in the OF, at least put him in RF where his arm strength will be more useful. Ryan has only talked about Sano as an RF'r. I don't see Plouffe being traded at all. The starting staff could really use a guy with some pop in his fastball. Bullpen? Signs of life...... I like as much speed as I can get at the top of the lineup: CF D. Santana - counting on 2014 as reality SS Escobar - earned the job LF Rosario - earned the job + xbh power RF Sano - um, where he belongs? 3B Plouffe - some backup for Sano 1B Mauer - bat and speed play better here 2B Dozier - hitting behind on OBP guy like Mauer makes sense DH Arcia - short leash C Murphy - fantastic pickup, imho Bench: Nunez, Vargas maybe Polanco or any good contact hitter. SP: I go with Seth: Phil Hughes, Ervin Santana, Kyle Gibson. Duffey earned it. I like Milone, but he's another guy what would look better on a staff of hard thowers. I'd be more motivated to move Nolasco at any cost. RP: Perkins/Jepsen as co-closers. The minor leaguers out of options du jour. I'd be happy as hell if they could bribe O'Day into signing.
  5. IDK He looks to be overwhelming some underwhelming pitchers.
  6. In the very recent past, I've had the same thoughts about Buxton. It wasn't that his PA's and AB's were bad in the MLB, they were Horrible. I'm changing my mind a little after the idea with Sano in RF and something Seth said a couple months ago. According to LEN3, Sano ended the season at +270lbs. Good Lord! But it's being addressed: hopefully under 250. A starting OF of Rosario in LF, Buxton/Hicks CF and Sano in RF makes sense to me, especially with Buxton covering a lot more ground in CF. Defensive replacements of either Buxton or Hicks also makes a lot of sense to me: well above average defense from foul line to foul line. Seth said a few months ago that Buxton would have value as a MLB CF even if he hit only .250. meh But with Sano in RF and another hitter at DH and great defense in CF can easily cover for a .250 hitter. Buxton still needs a lot of work to become a MLB hitter.
  7. I like a GM who believes in building via the MiLB.
  8. Early today, this video was post on the Start Tribune website. It's Michael Rand "interviewing" Phil Miller on what will Terry Ryan do with Byung-ho Park. http://video.startribune.com/ryan-if-twins-sign-korean-slugger-sano-would-move-to-outfield/344132022/ Miller quotes Terry Ryan as saying: Pursuing Park wasn't done to subtract players, it was to add. Plouffe will remain at 3rd, Mauer at 1st, and Sano will be in RF, because of his arm strength. I didn't see this coming. Did you?
  9. For the "rumors and hearsay" folks: If only you had walked a mile in Tommy's shoes....... Rest in Peace, Tommy.
  10. FYI: Just posted early this morning, Terry Ryan did not bid on Park to subtract others. He's adding. Plouffe stays, Mauer stays, Park is DH and Sano is in RF.
  11. Agree with Boom Boom, who posted about a second before I started typing Buxton will not start the season with the Twins. From what Ryan and Molitor have said, he needs more time, maybe a lot, to work on all things hitting. Re: Sano in the outfield. You better get used to the idea. And in RF. This was posted really early this morning: http://video.startribune.com/ryan-if-twins-sign-korean-slugger-sano-would-move-to-outfield/344132022/ The gist of this is: IF the Twins sign Byung-ho Park to a players contract, Terry Ryan did not do so to subtract players. He wants to add talent. The rundown is: Mauer still at 1st, Plouffe still at 3rd, Park is the DH and Sano [with his are strength] will be in RF.
  12. Sounds like the top bidder will be announced today. MLB Trader estimates the price tag would be: $10MM posting fee and a five-year, $40MM contract from the winning team.
  13. Thanks Nick for setting some realistic expectations. Norris would definitely fill a need, no real question there. In the other possibles, I like the idea of doing a 1+ deal. Of those, I like the proposed Atlanta deal the best. If this is gonna happen, when do you think it will? I'm guessing after they run Sano out to 3B several days in a row in Spring Training.
  14. Per GM Billy Beane, Gray is not available: http://www.masslive.com/redsox/index.ssf/2015/11/mlb_trade_rumors_athletics_son.html
  15. Eddie? As in Eddie Rosario? Maybe you didn't hear the part where the Twins tried Rosario at 2B and it was a failure. OF was deemed to be the alternative.
  16. I think it's a smart idea to at least explore it. Molitor was pretty clear in the article that he's checking it out as an option, because he doesn't want Sano as a DH for even 40 games and that Plouffe is no longer an option for the OF.
  17. I wish. About 4 years ago. Lee has a pretty long history of injuries. When healthy, he was one of the best.
  18. Nope. He could possibly be productive :0
  19. I like Dozier, but I don't think he's all that great. His sharply increasing K's and dip in OBP are a big concern. Maybe try to get Rob Refsnyder included. But a combo of Sanchez and Refsnyder is probably way beyond Dozier's value. Polanco = Gary Sanchez? I don't know about that.
  20. Many reports say the Yankees are interested in Daniel Murphy. It's been mentioned in MLB Trade Rumors that the Yankees are looking for a second baseman. Refsnyder, by all accounts, looked pretty good in his brief stint with the Yankees. But he was in a rotation. MiLB numbers look pretty good. But these are the Yankees
  21. Overall, I don't believe that the Twins are in a good enough position as a team overall to go out and trade their better minor league players, plus some veterans, to acquire a true Ace. The Twins spending a lot of bucks to buy and Ace is a nice bedtime story for the kiddies :-) The whole "looks like a real Ace" thingy: I'd be happy with the not-so-Acey Johan Santana, Frank Viola, Brad Radke and a great 6 inning from Francisco Liriano.
  22. Harbinger that the Twins organization thinks the next group of outfielders is at least a year away?
  23. I've mentioned this in the past. It's been written that the Yankees are "desperate" to fix their 2B situation and are willing to pay big bucks for Murphy. However, Cashman has been trying to move them away from their big spending days. [ I did say, trying ] Dozier seems like a good fit for the Yankees. Sanchez is only 22, but who cares? The link below gives some more current info on Sanchez. http://riveraveblues.com/tag/gary-sanchez/ I believe the Twins are a lot further away from sustained success than most. Let's face it: they were in a playoff race that was manufactured by MLB. 4 games over .500 is a great success, for any team coming off 4, 90 loss seasons. The Twins did finish 2nd in the AL Central, 12 games out. If the Twins want to competitive again next year, there's a lot of room for improvement. Will Sanchez alone do that? No. It's early, but I wouldn't bet the house on any of the in-house catching prospects. A trade for Gary Sanchez [ or similarly talented prospect ] might be the only hope. It's also been reported the Yanks are looking for pitching.....
