  1. Nobody's biting on Bastardo. 1 year @ 3-4 mil offer plus mutual option. I'm not 100% confident in bringing up multiple MiLB relievers without a backup plan.
  2. It's nice to see a MLB ready person should something happen to Plouffe [day off, slump, injury, trade, whatever]. I say that only because, beyond Sano, the 3rd replacements look to be utility players, players playing out of position or more than a few years away.
  3. IDK, that 'breakout' from Kepler was a pretty big change. If it were anyone else, we'd be hearing from people that this would make him a probable candidate for regression. His 1st - 2nd half numbers are pretty compatible. Definitely a long look in Spring Training. I'm betting management takes a conservative approach and Kepler starts in AAA. In the outfield: as the Twins have added more offense and stability in the everyday lineup, I could see Buxton starting in CF for defensive purposes. No matter where Sano starts out there, he's gonna have a rough start. Both Buxton and Rosario have the arm and speed to cover a lot of ground, whether it's CF / LF or CF / RF. But still think Buxton doesn't make it out of SP.
  4. Like Jepsen for 2 yrs. $11m. He's now 31 and seems to be improving with age. And I'd make the case that he should be co-closer with Perkins. Escobar for 2 yrs. as well. He's only 27. Up in the air on Plouffe. The ship has sailed on trading him, so 1yr and let's see what happens. Eduardo Nunez: can play several positions and can hit. Re-yupper
  5. I like the overall organization depth. I'm a little concerned with Dozier. Was the 2nd half decline due to injuries or pitchers catching onto Dozier? I've always like Danny Santana. Great arm for the job, but SS just doesn't seem to be his position. Looked good in CF in 2014 and sounds like he was doing well at 2nd. Liked what little I saw of Polanco in the MLB. Honestly, I thought he played 2B there, but Base Ball Reference says no.
  6. Yeah, Berrios is sure getting hosed: 21 years old [22 at the end of May] and he's on the cusp of being a Major Leaguer.
  7. I'm with you. Perkins has been breaking down the past 2 years, which screams limiting his innings early. Jepsen preformed very well in "relief" of Perkins. I see a pairing there. I also see several MiLB'ers that need a good look this year. And like it or not, May WILL be in the bullpen this year.
  8. Nice write-up, Seth. I'm not in the hand-wringing crowd: I think things will go well, with some adjustments along the way. I believe in his 2nd year as manager, Molitor will be a little quicker with the hook in moving under-performing veterans for younger players. That's not a knock on Mauer. I'm in the small group that believes he'll improve this year.
  9. I couldn't find anything that would support that claim.
  10. Anybody see this guy hit?? https://youtu.be/zNdsbuAQx6Y?t=2 Or this one? https://youtu.be/mTBAF9GWHb0
  11. What are the odds of any MiLB player making it to MLB? Gotta think 7 out of 10 is well beyond it. In an extraordinary sample size........
  12. Twinkie Town posted an article on Vargas yesterday: http://www.twinkietown.com/2016/1/6/10721496/what-happens-to-kennys-vargas Twins 1st-DH rotation could easily expand to Sano and Arcia to keep more consistent AB's for everyone. I'd still really like to see Vargas get a shot at MLB.....
  13. From ESPN's article on Griffey and Piazza entering the HOF: "Piazza and Bagwell were drawn into the steroids controversy by some who pointed out their powerful physiques, but both have denied using performance-enhancing drugs and no substantive accusations have been made."
  14. I guess it all depends on where you think the Twins are at. Personally, I wouldn't want to hold up progress waiting for a prospect to be more than a prospect. Great players force their way into a lineup. I'd go "in" more on the bullpen. I believe Perkins is wearing out fast. Since they are still on the market, I don't believe a combo of Clippard and Bastardo would be cost prohibitive. I'd also like to hear what the current offers for Storen is. Like him as a paring for now and replacement of Perkins. In another article, people are bashing the crap outta Buxton, so I'll leave him alone. I'll just say this: he's still a prospect. Spring Training may sort this out, but I think there's enough OF talent on the roster right now that needs to be vetted before going after a 4th OF type. There's plenty of room for rotation into 1st or DH.
  15. I can't say I'm excited about all those things, but I am very curious on how this will play out. Park: IDK. The reported differences in KBO to MLB pitchers seems pretty large. Still, 50% of Park's KBO power would be a pretty sweet addition.Sano: not really all that worried about him in the OF. He's been pulled from the Winter Leagues to get in better shape. That's a pretty big plus, to me.I like Berros. I don't like the body-building mentality he has. People give a lot of Ooo's and ah's over the shirtless pictures. I see a bunch of pulled muscles in the future.Buxton: I don't understand why he get's a break from so many and there is little love for a guy like Rosario. As I've said before: Buxton's path to the MLB will follow what Sano did: Watch for the walks. If Buxton shows a better approach at the plate, he's in the MLB to stay. The Rotation: oy vey. I mean, the ERA was great jump. But doesn't that also make you wonder what it would have been if Hughes, Nolasco and Santana weren't in the rotation at all?
  16. My guess is Arcia needs to have a heck of a Spring Training to make the team.
  17. There's a difference between hitting HR's and being a hitter that teams fear. Pitchers feared Killebrew and Reggie Jackson. I believe Sano has shown enough, so far, that pitchers will fear him next year. Dozier, Arcia, Park and Vargas? Not so much. I think Escobar and Rosario will be more of a difference maker than those 4 [ not talking just home runs here ].
  18. These are the types of players the Twins should be taking a chance on. Go over the signing bonus and take a chance on Armenteros, Maitan AND Gutierrez.
  19. Another year of experience, moving up a level to a better quality of pitchers i.e. more pitches in the strikezone? I can see a pretty good drop in K's, which, hopefully, show and increase in BA, W and OBP. K's? 195 is too many at any level. I'm a believe that will drop some with better quality pitching in the upper minors. I'm with Mike: "he'll find a way to succeed in the majors"
  20. Trade an improving starter who came close to 200 innings for 2 guys that will pitch far fewer innings? Plus a thow-in of some type? What's that old saying? Steal from Peter to pay Paul?
  21. Gibson is 28. While he has improved in his 3 years with the Twins, it's nothing spectacular: you're classic #3 starter. Those kind of guys have value to other teams. I don't understand trading E. Santana at all. He's the Twins #1 started right now. If even remotely possible, I've got a long list of other Twins pitchers I'd trade before Ervin.
  22. I'm not all that concerned about the K's at this point. However, I do think this year ABW needs to work on his PA's and get those strikeouts under control. Under 100 would be nice.
  23. The facts are the facts: 1. Milone isn't the big, sexy pitcher everyone wants. He's your basic grunt that get's the job done. 2. The Twins NEED May in the bullpen.
  24. Well, like the authors pointed out: most had marginal careers and an a few never made it out of the minors. Translation: those that had to scrap there way up the latter needed to learn more to get ahead. Molitor is a rare exception. I don't think any of this is new to anyone who follows baseball.
  25. I agree: expect the changes to begin late 2016, early 2017. If these MiLB players are really ready, it's time to move on. 2018 seem pretty close for for Buxton. Frankly, if he's not a starting MLB CF by 2017, he should be elsewhere. Seth, earlier this year you responded to me that Buxton would have value if he was able to hit like Gary Petite. Right now, he's not a 5 tool player. And I think it too much to expect that.
