  1. Thanks for the link. Never heard of this problem before. 24 and doesn't know how to throw a baseball? Must be too much time at 1st.
  2. Late to the game. Who's that in LF for the Twins that let that ball drop in front of him?
  3. The rotation has guys that have lot's of money and a few years left on their contract. Would it be smart business to just toss them aside and swallow the contracts? No. No business would do something like that. You take that young pitcher [who, BTW, had success in the bullpen last year] and leave him there. That's maximizing what you've got. And I'd probably add, under these circumstances.
  4. Nonsense. Planning for the future is a part of running any business. And right now, you personally liking it or not, the starting rotation is full and there are one or two MiLB pitchers who show some promise. Right now, for the Twins, that's May in the bullpen bridging the gap between starter and closer and, potentially, from Perkins.
  5. If the MiLB starting prospects continue to develop, May is in the right spot. Both as a reliever and future closer.
  6. Plouffe is no Mike Schmidt. There, I said it. Plouffe is solid in the field. The references to messing with Sano's future by putting him in Right Field seem misguided to me. A 260+ guy being bad in RF defensively, but nimble as a ballerina at 3B? And messing with Sano's hitting? Shirley you exaggerate. Sano is a hitter, first and foremost. That's the only real fact about Sano. Yeah, a little exaggeration just for fun Last year was the most games and AB's and it show in drops in BA and OPS in the 2nd half. I expect a tick up in Plouffe's performance this year. But still not Mike Schmidt. Sano, neither.
  7. Well, that's not quite the entire story. Catcher is a position of need for a lot of teams. For the Twins, well, let's just say it's more than that. Yeah, Hicks was a #1 pick for the Twins [ #14 overall], but is still working his way up to that status. With the size of need the Twins have at catcher, I think it's a fair trade. I'm generalizing here a bit, but Hicks, with the advantage of experience, definitely has the edge right now. And I'm a believer he can do more. I'm looking forward to Murphy's development and taking over the starting job.
  8. I'm not sure how relevant those minor league numbers are. If we're leaving out last year, then it looks like 2014 was his last trip down. And it's still MiLB pitchers. I'd really like to see Arcia succeed [ and let's face it, the deck is kinda stacked in his favor ] I just don't see him being successful coming off the bench.
  9. I don't know about Arcia. Are we kinda dreaming that he can be a successful bench guy? He seems to be the type that needs consistent AB's. I'd wouldn't like to see him go, but realistically, is there really a spot for him? Danny Santana makes more sense: multiple positions, contact hitter and swings from both sides of the plate.
  10. This was the move I was hoping for. Seems like there's plenty of BP - type guys in a pretty deep pipeline. He's got a lot of arm and legs to get under control.
  11. Ervin is a character. I like that about baseball. He would be my choice for Opening Day. When focused, he's something else.
  12. Was hoping Murphy would hit better than he has. Centeno was fun to watch.
  13. Lame and leading question. If it's the same play I saw, the ball appeared to be slicing away from Sano.
  14. ... Sano just booted one........ That should get things cranking again
  15. If I'm the GM: Tonkin is gone. Awful in Spring Training when his job is on the line spells choker to meD. Santana, too. He still deserves a chance, but elsewhere. I like Beresford better as one of the bench guysAnd maybe Arcia, too. Unless something has really changed, he's seems to me to be a guy that needs regular AB's so that his power swing has value.Duffey in the rotation: he deserves it. As has been mentioned, he's been working on his changeup and has been told to not worried too much about his SP stats. Nolasco really hasn't shown me anything.Liked what I saw of Beresford and Centino. Buxton looked better as SP has gone on. I really hope he figures it out, because his defense is effortless and fun to watch. Nick Burdi, JT Chargois, Jake Reed and Mason Melotakis need to get over the whole "more power" mindset and work on secondary pitches.
  16. "Does Terry Ryan have a fear of making the same mistake again?" From the article: ""Anyone who says it was a financial decision is dead wrong," Ryan said. "It was a very bad baseball decision. We thought we had better options. We were wrong in a big way. "It's on me, nobody else. I'm the general manager. We don't release big-league players without the general manager's approval."" Fear?
  17. Interesting to read 4 scouts were on hand to watch Arcia. Maybe a trade or teams eager to claim him off waivers?
  18. What kind of "endless reps during games" are you expecting?
  19. Listening to the game yesterday, I like what TR did: he was straight forward and showed respect for May and his potential to be a starter. May took it like a man; he showed respect for the team and those making the decision. Honestly, I don't think there was any super-secret plan involved here to keep May in the BP. He was a victim of his success last year. It is not all that uncommon for a pitcher to come up in MiLB as a starter and begin his MLB career in BP. Chris Sale is one [for 2 years], Adam Wainwright another. May is 26, which makes it a little strange. But that seems like "The Twins Way" when handling MiLB starters.
  20. Liked [ surprised ] by what I saw of Vielma. Very nice in the field and showed something at the plate. Kinda disappointed in Reed. I was expecting more. Seemed to me like a member of the "Brain-dead heaver's club". The rest is part of the pretty predictable 1st round of cuts.
  21. I've never doubted Buxton's play in the field. He's really something to watch. But let's face facts: who's the competition? I've always been a fan of what D. Santana did in 2014 as the Twins starting CF. However, at this point in SP, it's pretty clear D. Santana is being considered as a utility player, only. I'd like to see the Twins trade/release Danny so he can start anew. And I kinda like Beresford on the bench more. With the only other competition being a guy who's already destine for AAA, there is no competition. Buxton's AB's have been a lot better than the 1st few SP games and you can see the improvement over the past few. It's kinda the ole "fish or cut bait" thing. I'm now a believer that Buxton is the Twins starting CF for the future: short or long
  22. I just don't see Arcia as a bench player. Pretty one dimensional and needs a lot of AB's to be successful. I see Arcia as having a fair, but not great, spring at the plate. The Twins get a trade offer from a team that still thinks Arcia has potential. Twins take the deal and move on. I don't think Santana is a lock, either. Just like Buxton, he's gotta get on base.
  23. Interesting info. Thanks! Looks like the Twins are trying to find catchers practically anywhere. Is that a commentary on Turner and Garver or just a need for warm body's? 143 players all in one place? The kitchen staff must be exhausted already.
  24. Spring training has barely started. I have zero concern over velocity at this point. Give is a couple more weeks.
