  1. Doesn't mean they were wrong either. We won't know for a year or two but it didn't seem to hurt the Twins last year.
  2. I was careful. I didn't see any postings this offseason at Twins Daily begging the front office to sign Garcia. And yet there are many complaints that he was traded for two minor leaguers (one of which was 14-1 at the time). I never said anything about his "signing date". Where did you pull that from?
  3. A lot of people complain about the Garcia trade. And yet, he was a free agent this off season and no one seems interested in signing him. I thought at the time (and I still do) that the Garcia trade was a very smart move.
  4. Hughes' fastball in his first outing was at 91 MPH. If he sustains that, he may be starter #5.
  5. Disclaimer #1. The following is my opinion only. I have no documentation to back it up so don't ask. And because it is my opinion, don't write back to tell me I'm wrong. Opinions are neither right nor wrong (but may prove to be at a later time). Why can't both Heyman and Lavelle be right. Maybe the front office is perfectly happy with the rotation starting the season (Lavelle) but haven't stopped looking for help (Heyman). I would hope that any front office, regardess of how happy they are with their team, would always be looking for any upgrade that is reasonable.
  6. I've searched all through my DirecTV guide and I can't find this game listed. Is it possible that it's not available here in Maine? I think I'll call and complain.
  7. I'm more concerned that he might drop over from a coronary than whether he hits a target weight. Obesity can be deadly. And for a professional athlete with both means and opportunity at his fingertips, there is no excuse for him not to be in playing shape whatever weight that is.
  8. There is always an exception to the rule.
  9. Your response to shs_59 sounds to me like your telling him he doesn't know what he's talking about.t
  10. The one thing I love about all the new sabermetric quantifiers is that now everyone gets to pick one the "proves" his position on a topic. To me, it's the argument equivalent of a participation medal. Everyone gets to be a winner. In ancient times (the 20th century), we all had to discuss a topic using ERA, WHIP, Batting Average, Home Runs, etc. It was a simpler time. P.S. I like the trade.
  11. Unless you have a financial stake in the team, they don't owe you any explanation. They made a business decision based on information we are not privy to whether you like it or not. I don't like it but that's immaterial to the front office.
  12. I predict the next big free agent signing will be on February 21, 2067 when the front office signs the great great great grandson of Camilo Pascual to a "futures" contract (a new addition in the latest CBA agreement that allows teams to sign relatives of ring of honor inductees if they are under 10 years old).
  13. Sign both Cobb and Lynn and then move to an outfielder.
  14. If I lived in the Twin Cities, I think I would be planning a May or June trip to Cedar Rapids to see Kirilloff and Lewis in action before they get pushed up to Fort Meyers.
  15. I will have to politely disagree with you. Where ever I've lived around this country, Dallas has been perceived (rightly or wrongly) as a high end city while Minneapolis is a neat place somewhere up north.
  16. When you have Texas big oil money involved, it's a big market. Heck, they could even afford to have George Bush involved as a owner and still be sucessful.
  17. I'm an old-school guy. It is my personal opinion that sabermetrics, while being useful, an sometimes cloud the picture more than clarify. Below are the 2017 statistics for three pitchers using only old fashion numbers. Pitcher. IP. W. L. K. ERA. WHIP Darvish 186.2. 10. 12. 209. 3.86. 1.16 Cobb 186.1. 11. 8. 153. 3.43. 1.23 Lynn 179.1. 12. 10. 128. 3.66. 1.22 Darvish signed for something in the $140M range including incentives and opt out clause. The estimates I've seen for Lynn and Cobb are around $15M a year for each at the top end. I don't see that much difference between the three pitchers and yet Lynn and Cobb are not highly thought of by most TD commentators. I would think the front office could get both for under $30M a year for three or four years and be in a much stronger position than by just signing Darvish. Of course, I'm not using fip, bip, fmat, hazmat, A-Fib, WAR, WAR+, WAR-, WTF, or any other new fangled measuring tools. Hey, you kids get off my lawn!!!! #+*
  18. Maybe you've never been to Texas, but Arlington is located only minutes from both Dallas and Forth Worth. The Metropolitan area population is over 7,000,000 which I would classify as a big market.
  19. "Terry was at least able to sign Nolasco and Hughes..." and how did that work out? Just maybe, after all the dust settles, Falvey and Levine have been correct to proceed as they have. But we won't know for a while. In the meantime I'm looking forward to Spring Training.
  20. This sounds like a horrible deal for the Twins.
  21. Or just sign Lynn and Cobb to short-term, high yearly salary contracts. Keep all the prospects and see what you have for a team in 2019.
  22. The Twins missed out on Darvish: maybe 18 wins at $22M. What if they sign both Cobb and Lynn: maybe 28 wins at $26M???
  23. Maybe the Twins did "pull the very very very reasonable trigger" on Darvish and Darvish responded with "I don't want to play in Minnesota." No one writing on this web site has all the facts surrounding the negotiations, so to start the whining about a free stadium is a little childish. And out of curiousity, why would anybody "brine" a free agent? Aren't they tender enough already?
  24. Don't confuse people with actual facts.
