  1. With the capability of buying a single team package through MLBTV.com, I've been able to see many more Twins games this year than in the past (and I live in Maine so I have no blackouts). Astrudillo appears to me to be a very adequate outfielder. He's not going to replace Buxton, Rosario, or Kepler, but he can cover for them when they need a day off. My own opinion based on nothing but personal observation is that much of the negativity towards him as an outfielder might be based on his physical appearance. He isn't long and lean so therefore, he can't be an outfielder. Having been a similarly sized player all my life, I know the prejudice. I think he has proven to the coaching staff he can play but the viewing public still can't get behind him.
  2. I watched the last two innings on MLBTV (not blacked out where I live) after watching the conclusion of the Washington/Carolina double overtime 7th game. Yikes. What a contrast. Up and down the ice for 95 playing minutes, only one TV timeout per period in overtime, non-stop action until Carolina finally wins the series and moves on. And then the tedium of watching a blowout baseball game. It was really slow and painful to watch. My thoughts (if anyone cares): an off day for Buxton and Schoop is not an uncommon move, especially against a top-flight right handed pitcher. La Tortuga in right field? Why not? Keep his bat in the lineup. Maybe the inspiration might propel the Twins to victory! It didn't but it's only one game. Lighten up, folks. It's a long season.
  3. I have recollections from the Ray Moore and Bill Plies era. You kids go look that up.
  4. I have been a Twins Daily read for the past three years. And my favorite part has always been the minor league game reports (especially when the major league report is depressing). I do not recall during this time frame any period in which the pitching prospects were so dominating. With a weak Central Division and a good hitting Twins team, I don't see the Twins falling out of contention this year. But if they do, I say the Twins just trade away all the starters (except Berrios) and bring up the kids for the second half of the season. I know they are young but what's to lose?
  5. I only was able to watch the ninth inning and Mejia looked very good. So he had one bad inning. There are still 145 games left (more or less).
  6. I would expect a fifth round draft pick to advance quicker than a 13th round pick. What's the big surprise?
  7. The Blue Wahoo headline says they won 5-0. Box score says 1-0. Totally agree with rdehring about the pitching. Twins have good young hitters already (with a couple more in the minors). But I don't ever remember this number of pitching prospects working their way up the ladder. I hope the Twins are aggressive with their advancement.
  8. When the defense behind you is really bad, a pitcher tends to try too hard to throw perfect pitches and it really impacts his performance. I think the Rochester pitchers will have awful numbers this year unless the defense improves.
  9. I am old enough. Bob Gibson (in 1968 especially) was incredible. And scary. It was a much different game in that era and Gibson embodied it with his high and tight fastball (once clocked at 103.4) to anyone that challenged him. He ended his career with 255 complete games.
  10. Let's see how he does in the minors first. He may be down there longer than people hope.
  11. When Hoskins hit his homerun, my first thought was: "Grab that bat and see if it's corked." That was a one-handed swing on a low and away curve. It's a shame to get beat by that.
  12. It's too bad that the Twins don't have one of those pitch framing catchers to turn those close calls into strikes.
  13. Only if you define reasonable as "still breathing."
  14. I had to pull up the Miracle box score to confirm that the team stranded 20 runners. The Miracle stranded eight runners. The total number of runners stranded by all the batters was 20. Big difference.
  15. Sano has been inactive for so long that perhaps the Twins should put him in the minors for an extended period until he proves he is ready to displace a current roster member.
  16. For me, the most impressive thing was the low number of walks by the starters. No free passes means far fewer runs. Those four starters were impresive.
  17. The five pitchers scheduled to pitch today could be the Twin's rotation in a couple years. Wow!
  18. Just as a hitting prospect, I would reverse Kiriloff and Lewis. Lewis might be the #1 overall prospect, but Kiriloff can hit.
  19. Watching Buxton and Hamilton play similarly hit balls was very interesting. Once Buxton realized he couldn't catch the ball, he kept running, made a futile (half-assed) attempt, turned it into a homerun, and got hurt. Once Hamilton realized he couldn't make the catch, he stopped and positioned himself to play the ball off the wall, and held the hitter to a double. Horrible play versus smart play.
  20. When Blaine Parker comes in to pitch, put all three catchers behind the plate. No more wild pitches!!!
  21. Is something wrong with Buxton's legs? Why didn't he steal third so he could score on a fly? Hand appeared to me to have a rather slow delivery.
  22. Doesn't the game start at 3:10 CDT?
  23. Every year, I read all the prospect reports and prediction articles and every year I am disappointed in what I read. Once again this year, I can find no mention of me anywhere. I'm closing in on 72 years old and I'm still waiting for my shot. Of course that's also true for the NHL prospect reports also. Oh well, there's always next year.
  24. MAJOR BREAKING NEWS..... Astrudillo walked in the first inning. I know one at bat is a small sample size, but will this become the norm?????
