  1. Rocco just got played, Wallner is a better option than Farmer against both LH and RH pitching.
  2. What team have you been watching. They absolutely do platoon every LH batter. The only reason Kepler has started recently against LH pitching is because Buxton is on the IL and they have to start a LH hitting OF. This is why Margot is 0 for in pinch hitting because they have decided all LH batters can't hit LH pitching. This team holds to a very rigid belief in splits and has not developed any of their LH batters to hit against lefties. This is why Santana leads the team in AB's because he switch hits, not because of performance against RH pitching. The whole basis of their operation is to platoon as many positions as possible.
  3. I was at the game last night and was sitting behind the dugout and am wondering if Rocco was in the dugout. Letting Larnach hit against a LH would indicate he wasn't.
  4. But his OPS is well below Miranda's and that is really who he is taking AB's from. My frustration is he leads the team in AB's not because he is the best player but because of their rigidity to the platoon system. And since he is a switch hitter, they think he can play regardless of who is pitching and he is not good against RH and their is a better option available.
  5. No, he has had one good month offensively, and is batting .182 this month. Yes he has had a couple of moments where he has had a key hit but his offense is league average at best. He should not be leading the team in AB's but because he is a switch hitter they will run him out there every day, despite the fact he can't hit right handed pitching. He should be starting against LH and be a defensive replacement and Miranda should be at first. Lewis hasn't even played 100 games at 3B, it is way too early to write him off there.
  6. You are not going to be able to get Correa, Buxton, Lewis and Miranda all in the lineup if you resign Santana especially with the philosophy of this front office and manager. Santana would be the fulltime first baseman because he is a switch hitter. So the only way to get Miranda in the lineup is to move Lewis to the OF and I don't think that is happening. I still think it is too soon to say whether Lewis is a bust at third, he has barely 100 games if that many at the position, he needs more reps there.
  7. Miranda has sat the last two nights, because Rocco insists on playing Santana every day. Miranda needs to be playing more and Santana needs to be the defensive replacement at 1B especially against RH pitching. Santana is below league average hitting RH pitching.
  8. The problem is we will not see Miranda on a FT basis even when the others are back. Rocco is insisting on playing Santana everyday at first. This puts Miranda on the bench and Santana just does not hit RH's well. He gets a big hit occasionally and that is great but because he is switch hitter he is deemed to be an every day player, it is not based on productivity.
  9. Yes I know, he still should not be sitting 2 days in a row. Play him at 1B and bring Santana in for defense in the late innings.
  10. So now Miranda is a part time player too.
  11. Why not play Lewis at SS and move Castro to second. This keeps Lewis and Miranda bats in the lineup. I know Lewis has not been stellar on defense this year, but two years ago he came up and played short. I can't believe he wouldn't be a better option than Castro and Farmer. Then you could bring up Kiersey to play center.
  12. And last game Kepler doesn't catch a foul ball and if he does he is out of the inning with no runs. He has to pick up his defense, but he needs help from the defense. He gave up 3 runs in 6 innings today and he is the # 4 or 5 pitcher however you want to rank him, most teams would take that from the backend rotation guys. He wasn't the reason we lost today, it was the offense.
  13. Let's talk about this game, that is what I am referring to and Varland has given us the opportunity to win. Most comments are making it seem like he gave up 10 runs in the first inning, If you don't think he belongs in the rotation, that is a fair opinion but the results have been there the last two games. And I think sometimes we look for all the different stats and are they hitting a pitcher and forget to look at the results.
  14. He gave up 8 hits, two of them should have been outs and 1 walk. I know it is not outstanding, but pitchers will give up hits and when you only give up now 3 runs in 6 innings, you have given your team a chance to win. I am not sure if he should be part of the rotation long term but give him some credit for keeping his team in the game, that is what counts.
  15. What do you mean on paper, he gave up two runs in 5 innings, that is real results.
  16. 2 runs in 5 innings, that sure is a poor outing.
  17. Yeah and the error had no impact on the inning. It was ruled a hit but should have been an error.
  18. David Clyde came straight from high school to the majors, he never played college ball.
  19. No that is on Falvey and how he chose to allocate his resources. Now do I wish that he was given a bigger budget, yes but to keep blaming the Pohlads is the easy way out. They have given him larger budgets and he has produced one playoff series win. Maybe it's not all about money but how the money is being spent.
  20. Lopez had to throw an extra 19 pitches because of the Catcher's interference. I don't put it completely on him, he could have been out of the inning a lot earlier. Stop having the catcher set up closer to the batter, because that is what is going to happen, a catcher's interference call. You aren't going to steal strikes, it is where it crosses the plate not where the catcher catches it.
  21. The Twins keep trying to get the optimal matchup for every bat. While that sounds great in theory, it is not practical in reality. You need to play your best players and if they are not good enough to win games either develop or trade for better players. There is a time to make a move or moves in a game to optimize your chances for success but you can't do it for every AB. And yes you can be strategic about giving players a day off here and there to maximize a particular matchup but you don't do it every day.
  22. Farmer needs to be DFA'd, he should not play another inning for the Twins. He has not earned his playing time this year. And they won't even play him at SS which is he was originally brought in to play.
  23. They had one warming up, I thought for sure they would bring him in to face Larnach and Wallner. Maybe the threat of Margot on the bench made them change their mind.
