    Hopefully Jeremy will identify who can help without gutting our minor leagues. And hopefully Tom will approve any additional payroll needed. I really don't Tom P., anywhere near personnel decisions other than saying yay or nay to payroll.

    Our starters gave length including Ober who went into the fifth. There wasn't a lot of need for relievers this weekend. They played Friday perfectly, let Ober go as long as he could and let the game dictate who comes in next. Piggybacking negates all of this and doesn't work.

    While I agree with your take about Rocco vs. Shelton. Shelton does not make the decisions on who is on the roster. That was Falvey and now Zoll. I am not sure I am seeing much difference between the two. Falvey sent Wallner down in 24 after 25 ab's, regardless of how bad he looked that is an awfully quick hook. I can't believe that Shelton wanted Gray over Kreidler coming of out of spring training if he thought defense was going to be a concern. Yes Shelton can lobby to get certain guys on the roster from the minors. But he is not scouring the waiver wire saying oh go sign Gomez. This churning of pitchers is completely on Zoll and he has made one good pickup.

    I think the eyes would have told them that by now. I am still amazed at his defensive obstruction call when he was just kind of wondering around.

    I agree, but I do believe the playing of Gray as much they have shows that the front office does have influence on the lineup. Shelton has done a better job of pushing back then Rocco, but this shows they are not passive bystanders IMHO.

    But he doesn't bat LH and that is blowing up the analytics nerds spreadsheets.

    Falvey had at least $14m to spend and he chose to spend nothing on the bullpen, that is not on ownership. And instead he signed Bell to be the first baseman and Caratini to be the backup catcher after he had signed Jackson for the same role. At the time those signings were very much head scratchers as they did not fill immediate needs. Now you could say ownership could have given a higher payroll but how do we know how Falvey would have allocated those resources. Falvey has never valued the bullpen thinking he is smarter than everyone else and can always find someone to fill the role. And now Zoll is doing the same thing. The only good thing about this signing is at least he is younger and there still might be something there to unlock. But it has been primarily a string of late 20's or 30 somethings that multiple teams have been unable to lock but yet we think we could.

    He has played 3 games in CF, are you expecting a Gold Glove. Oh and started another 19 games in CF in the minors and college. The Twins are playing musical chairs with the defensive positions, you are going to have days like today. When actually he misplayed one ball but he also bailed out Larnach when he couldn't see the ball. How many games do you want him out there for before you determine he has figured it out.

    You can't pinch hit Kreidler here, our defense will be weakened up the middle for the last two innings.

    May need to cut back on the coffee by a couple of cups.

    You can't lose Gray's defense, you need to leave him in there regardless of his plate appearances.

    I don't think it is all on Rocco, this is an organizational decision. Zoll is no different than Falvey as that is the side of baseball he came up under and he is following the same playbook. I think Shelton pushes back more than Rocco which is what I like to see.

    Yes I don't disagree but they are playing Gray there more, which I don't know if anyone understands why.

    This is the part that still frustrates me, Lewis, Keaschall and Lee were performing where they were expected to perform and hadn't regressed since the beginning of the season. So either the moves should have been made in spring training or next off season. This is on the organization for poor planning as much as the players. And they have basically replaced Lee with someone who is grades below him defensively, so where is the upgrade.

    This is what happens when you play musical chairs with defensive positions. You have to live with the learning curve. Too bad we don't have a guy who can play CF in St. Paul.

    Don't forget these guys do have lives, they could have had other commitments including family. And the team is preparing to play a game, they have never come out on the field for the ceremony.

    But remember the team is putting the emphasis on defense.

    But I would prefer a more solid plan rather than hoping that you hit on six players. If that is the best Zoll can do, he should be gone tomorrow. We have no reliable guys in the bullpen with any sustainable history, other than Rogers and he is almost past the point of expiration.
