    It was planned for him to only play 7 innings. It sounds like either tomorrow or Thursday he will play 7 again before they will bring him back.

    When Zoll was promoted it was reported that he had been very involved in a lot of the trade discussions and other personnel decision for the prior couple of years. It was strongly hinted at the time that Levine had not been very involved for the same time period. So Zoll seemed to be in the GM role for a while just not officially until 24. So he is very much invested in the ways of the front office and their mode of operations.

    This offseason was led by Falvey not Zoll. Falvey didn't leave until two weeks before spring training, he is the one who is ultimately responsible for the course they took. I assume Zoll had input but Falvey had the final say as head of baseball operations. I will agree that ownership bungled the transition, it should have been done at the end of the season last year so they could make better decisions for this year. And even if the new investors weren't on board yet, you need to establish a plan or plans for the next year But Falvey had money to spend, we will never agree on this board if it was enough. But he signed Bell for $7m in December to play 1B. That move made no sense at the time and is money that could have been allocated to the bullpen. He also signed Caratini after signing Jackson to supposedly be the backup catcher. Again at the time of the move, it was a head scratcher. There was another potential source of funds to be allocated to help with the bullpen. So Falvey had some resources that he chose not to use on bullpen help.

    The whole problem is Bell wasn't signed to be the DH, he was signed to play 1B. Falvey said this after the signing, so how they couldn't see he was unplayable there I don't know. I think that is why Larnach was kept, to be the DH. But because of the known flaw of Bell's defense by everybody but the Twins front office, this has created a real mess in roster construction and usage.

    You do know there is no rule that says you have to platoon players. Players that hit LH are allowed to face LH pitchers. The obsession with platoon matchups does not need to be a factor in every decision. Put your best players on the roster. And you could just as easily send out Gray for Jeffers even if you are his supporter, the infield is covered. But Zoll may not have that option on his dartboard.

    I will make a similar comment I made in today's game thread. It doesn't matter which player or prospects you want to discuss, the fact remains do we trust Zoll to lead the team thru this process. He helped Falvey get us into the mess of roster construction and lack of bullpen, so can he really come up with a plan for this team. Or will he make trades just to make trades. I think people are giving him a pass for how this roster was constructed and even for the trade deadline moves last year, both good and bad. I don't want him making moves that could potentially hurt this organization and if he doesn't have a plan that could easily happen. And if he has a plan, while he doesn't have to share it in detail you usually see some idea of a plan based on their moves. And I sure don't see any idea of a plan.

    For everyone hoping for trades or smart moves around the deadline do you really believe in Zoll making the right or best move for the team. So far he has shown no idea of a plan and everything is very random. He kept Gray up here to play SS and moved Lee to 3B when Lee actually grades better than Gray at SS. And there was plenty of time to call up Culpepper before he was hurt. Move Jeffers if you have to, but I wouldn't trust this guy to sell a used car.

    Why wait, what is going to be accomplished with the Saints that can't be accomplished with the Twins. They say they want to compete than get him up here if he is healthy.

    So it sounds like Jeffers in Iowa with the Saints. Why is he not up here, we have plenty of catchers, he doesn't have to catch every day. Someone take Zoll's dartboard away so maybe he will make a decision on his own.

    They will probably go down the line of who was next in voting. Clemens is not an all star, keep the hopes down.

    So why didn't they do this week when he was first out. Rather than sit him out for 4 games and play 1. A lot of people predicted this and they need to be more decisive. It looks like the same thing with Culpepper.

    This is the culture Falvey built and obviously Zoll agrees with or he wouldn't have accepted his promotion to GM 2 years ago. Nothing has changed with this front office, so many here seem to think they are going to change how they operate because Falvey is gone. I am sure he did not sit at his desk and decree all his decisions like a king. The staff believes in this philosophy and it won't change until Zoll is gone and a new head of baseball operations is brought in.

    What does he do that the Twins see that make them think he will be an answer to the bullpen woes. Is it he is breathing and has an arm. If he doesn't throw hard and can't throw strikes, which I thought were attributes they were looking for in bullpen arms. At some point roll with the arms you have developed and see what you have. The only positive about him is he is younger, so maybe they can turn him around like Gomez. But your strategy can't be hope which seems to be what they are thriving on.

    Other GM's have worked with the same budgets as ours and shown better results. Even Ryan did better in his first stint as GM in a different era. Last offseason Falvey had at least $14m to spend and he chose not to invest in even one bullpen arm other than the bottom of the barrel. Don't look at the results from June, look at the time the signings were made, they were both questionable. Falvey never was able to construct a good roster with the resources given to him and player development especially on the position side has been abysmal. That is not on the owners. They need to find a competent person to run the baseball operations like the Wolves have done with Tim Connelly.

    I am hoping we can get somewhere in the middle of the Caratini between May and June. Can he handle the load behind the plate and keep up the hitting over the course of a season. He has never started more than 87 games behind the plate and that was five years ago and he will be 34 in a couple of months. Hopefully Jackson can catch more than 60 games next year if we don't extend Jeffers. Or we could be in the market for catching help next year at this time. Diaw and Tait hopefully will be ready by 28 but can Caratini be that bridge. I want to see how he does the rest of the season.

    But what does Zoll think, he is the one that should be proposing moves to Pohlad to let him say yes or no to. Or do we want Tommy P. to pressure him into a move for the sake of making a move that may set us back. Again we need a plan and it shouldn't just be about this year. The White Sox in the same position a few years back decided to become sellers because they knew long term that was the best path forward. I don't really trust Zoll or the talent evaluators i.e. the analytics staff in the front office to make decisions that will more help than hurt this team. Other than trading Jeffers so he doesn't walk for nothing and maybe Larnach and Bell, I wouldn't be disappointed if they didn't make any other moves. They need to clean house in the offseason and determine a direction for this team.

    How are you wasting Roden's service time by having him up here over Fedko. You need 13 players that can play. And he was not called up to spell Buxton because he didn't play when he was out. This issue is more about roster mismanagement than one player.

    And this is the problem, when you are playing with a shorter bench vs years past you need 13 players that can contribute. The roster construction and the philosophy behind it keeps putting the team in a tough spot. Yesterday was a great example, you asked a player who hasn't had an AB in 12 days to come in and try to contribute. It doesn't matter the name, that is not putting the player in the best position to be successful. There was no reason not to play Fedko a couple of the games Buxtpm was out, Kreidler does not show a clear advantage defensively over Fedko in CF and it weakened another position. I thought they moved Luke off of 2B because of defense. They are not consistent in this regard. I am trying to enjoy the weekend series win because it was great. But I want more, I want a team that can consistently win. And this team is no different than years past right now, they are going to struggle to be anything other than a .500 team at best with the flaws they have. I feel the front office is influencing a lot of these decisions and until Zoll is gone or a new head of baseball is brought in we are not going to have a clear consistent plan of what this team wants to do to be a winning team.

    If he can't contribute to a winning team then he should not have been called up. He had no chance ever to earn playing time. I am not saying he could be a productive player or not. There are countless stories of players with similar coming up and having some success even for a limited time. So just to write him off because he spent six years in the minors then again why call him up. You need to use your whole roster, this is not a team of stars, there were opportunities to get him some playing time. They played Gray ahead of him, don't tell me he couldn't have started a couple of games in CF with Buck out. It seems awfully like a knee jerk reaction to write him off after 17 plate appearances. This team will try anyone with a pulse on the mound but on the position side, I am not sure what their criteria is.
