  1. Thanks for the analysis Parker! You bring up many factors that are potentially contributing to Joe's decline. If he indeed did move away from the plate a bit, it would explain why he is striking out looking on pitches on the outside corner. Those used to be balls, distance wise, when he was closer to the plate.
  2. WOW - talk about missing on a ton of high draft picks! I'm sure the Twins thought they would get more out of Banks, McCarthy and Johnson when they were drafted, and given where they were drafted I would consider them busts. BTW - David McCarty was the 3rd overall pick in 1991, not a 3rd round pick as stated above.
  3. The Twins put Nolasco on the DL retro to Monday 6/1. So we have 10 days to see what else shakes out.
  4. Rochester's batting order to start the game today had 8 Latinos in it (Diaz, Rodriguez, Arcia, Vargas, Pinto, Ortiz, Martinez and Ramirez). I know that there are several Latinos throughout the rest of theTwins' system, and those players will play a prominent role in the Twins success in the future. This leads me to wonder if the Twins have enough Latino support / coaches throughout their system. How do others feel?
  5. Disappointing, but not a surprise. Hopefully a stint in the pen will straighten Alex out.
  6. Good question, Mike. There was a pretty good track record of that here for a time with the examples of Guardado, Aguilera, Hawkins and Nathan who all began their careers as starters. They sort of did that with Stauffer although he pitched last year out of the 'pen for the Padres over the last few years.
  7. Maybe the Twins did not protect Gilmartin because of his 6-14 record, 5.0 ERA, and 1.35 WHIP over the past 3 seasons while he was in AAA. However it looks like the Mets are pleased that the Twins did not protect him.
  8. So JO Berrios just tossed a 2 hit shutout earlier today for the Lookouts. By all accounts he is the #1 starting pitching prospect in the Twins system. Who else is in the discussion?
  9. Agreed. However it is fun to speculate, :-). Sano is probably not ready yet as evidence to his start in AA, and at this point I would not want to rush him. The Twins need to keep giving Vargas, Arcia and maybe now Hicks as many big league at bats over the next several weeks as they can. At this point it probably makes sense to send Rosario back down to allow this to happen. He is just an injury away from more big league time this season.
  10. I agree with most the responses to the post. Ideally Hicks should get more at bats before being brought back up BUT what are the Twins gaining with having Schafer on the roster? By the way, here are Hicks splits this year at Rochester: AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB IBB SO SB CS AVE OBS SLG OPS vs Left - 21 4 7 1 1 1 4 6 0 8 1 0 .333 .481 .619 1.101 vs Right - 45 8 12 3 2 0 8 5 0 7 1 0 .267 .333 .422 .756 He had 3 hits today and is now hitting .310 overall. Small sample size, but maybe, just maybe, he is figuring out how to hit righties.
  11. I know that Jordan Schafer has not been DLed (or DFAed) yet, but I get the feeling Aaron Hicks is sensing another opportunity on the Twins. He has another hit for Rochester today, and is now hitting close to .300. Is it time to give Aaron one more shot with the big club?
  12. Agree totally on this one. Arcia did was he was supposed to. Not his fault - this time anyway! I also agree with the take on the Radio broadcast team. Getting tired of them telling stories instead of describing the game action. Was listening late yesterday and there was a pop-up in foul territory, but they never said that the ball went out of play! Would have been nice to know, you know?
  13. Yes it would. However the Twins should DFA Stauffer and his 8.38 ERA, 2.28 WHIP, and .372 BA against! After yesterday, I've seen enough of his. DFA Stauffer and reinstate Nolasco or bring up Oliveros.
  14. Great article. Bruno does have his work cut out for him. There will be a TON of pressure on the Twins staff to continue to cultivate and improve the young crop of players - especially in the batters box. I hope, like many Twins fans do, that he is VERY successful in doing just that.
  15. Aaron Hicks' 0 for 6 for Rochester looks ugly. I keep hoping he can be consistent enough to come up and provide the Twins some solid outfield "D", while batting 9th. He can bring much more to the table than Robinson or Schafer, and could be a nice #4 outfielder for the Twins down the road. That hope is waning, however, every time I see a box score like yesterdays...
  16. SD - I'm also looking forward to the day when the roster you described above becomes a reality. Unfortunately for 2015 it is a pipe dream save significant injuries. That said, I'd love to see it, but it sounds more realistic to have it occur in 2016 or later.
  17. I kind of like threads about those who used to be in the Twins system. Benson is batting .167 this Spring. Are the Braves that desperate? I saw today that Kevin Correia and Scott Baker were both released. More wonderful memories when you see those two names, eh?
  18. I agree. Escobar is a good player to have on this roster as we wait, wait and wait some more for the "future" to finally arrive. Go Twins!
  19. A concern I have is that it is typically not the "Twins Way" to promote from AA. Thus by sending those top prospects to AA, it could prolong the time before they reach the Majors. I agree that the Lookouts are going to be LOADED!
  20. I've read multiple posters drooling over how loaded a team the Lookouts might be in Chattanooga this season. It seems that most posters feel that most of the "blue chip" prospects (Sano, Rosario, Buxton, Berrios, etc.) will/should end up in Chattanooga. My question is why? If the Twins feel that these prospects are close to being able to contribute at the Major League level, should they not be in AAA at Rochester? What are the positives and negatives of each?
  21. So Sano, Vargas and Rosario have gone deep in the past two games. That bodes well for the future, eh?
  22. Plouffe has had a few Zeppelin songs over the years. I like those! I thought I remember one of the Twins having "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Metallica at one point. That was AWESOME!
  23. I certainly agree that the infield is trending in the right direction. No doubt this could be the best infield that the Twins have fielded in years - maybe since Gaetti-Gagene-Lombardozzi-Hrbek. I also agree that there is room for those with a "wait and see attitude." We need to see consistency out of Ploufe and Dozier. We need to see if Santana can handle the SS position every day. And we need to see if Mauer can get back to where he was after his down season at the plate last year. Having Sano, Rosario, Polanco, et.al. waiting in the wings is a huge bonus. GO TWINS!
  24. I'm not quite ready to drink the Nolasco cool-aid quite yet. I've seen too many solid NL pitchers who failed when they came to the AL. I agree, a solid Nolasco would be a HUGE boost to this squad.
