  1. Today's lineup is probably not too far off from a potential opening day lineup, barring injuries, or total floppage in ST by Park and Buxton.
  2. I'm also getting tired of the "he is too short" crap. Maddox and Johan were only 6'0" (probably on their tip toes). Lincecum is 5'11. I'm not saying Berrios should be compared to these guys, just that shorter pitchers can be successful.
  3. Yup - looks like he is in midseason form!
  4. I'm interested in seeing if the Twins are able to harness the potential of Alex Meyer like Crash Davis did for Nuke Laloosh.
  5. I suspect the $6M he earned from the Twins may have played into this. He came over and made his fortune and didn't need to "work" at his craft any longer.
  6. Thanks for the walk down memory lane, Nick. The 1989 draft was terrific, especially when you consider all the "branches" from it. Lots of interesting tracing in that. I'd be curious if the Viola trade had similar impact, besides several piece of the 1991 championship team. I also wish Duensing well. He appeared to be a class act and did what the Twins asked of him.
  7. Great picture of Hicks - all smiles after reaching base. Good thing he enjoyed that moment as there was little offensive success after that. Nice depth pick-up for the Twins but certainly he is not an important piece of the Twins' future. I hope he proves me wrong.
  8. I'm impressed with TD readers as there is an article about Twins catchers and no one (yet) has suggested moving Mauer back behind the plate (until now). Looks like we finally all accepted that moving Mauer back behind the plate was not going to happen. YIPPIE!
  9. I agree! The Whities just got Lawrie and now the add Frazier. Very curious move.
  10. My first reaction was WHY??? What has this guy done to make the Twins think he should be worthy of even a minor league roster spot?
  11. Seems like just yesterday that prized prospect Cuddyer got his first call up with the Twins. I believe it was a pinch runner, but as a fan it w nice to see "the future". Kind of like this past season with both Sano and Buxton seeing time on the major league roster.
  12. This is logical, but I'm still very nervous about it!
  13. $16M over two years for a right-handed starting pitcher who in his career is 61-81 with a 4.52 ERA (which includes an ERA of 4.94 in the AL). WOW! Just WOW!
  14. I don't know much about Murphy either but it is yet another right handed bat in the lineup...
  15. Biggest 2015 surprise is Duffey. Biggest 2016 surprise - Shane Robinson makes the Twins roster out of Spring Training and the TD posters DON'T go ballistic!
  16. Yes the wonderful memories of Minnesota's first major sports championship since the Lakers left town. The 1987 team showed a ton of resiliency throughout the season and the postseason. I was really nervous when Sheridan hit that 2 run bomb in the 8th off of Reardon in game 3 to give the Tigers a comeback win and momentum. I thought it might turn the series around for the Tigers, but the Twins came right back and took games 4 and 5 to the surprise of many. Then the party at the Dome and an up, down, up series with the Cardinals. I'll never forget that season. It was truly special! Thanks Parker!
  17. I agree with a couple of the posters that calling Gibson the most valuable pitcher and Dozier the most valuable player is kind of "the best of the worst" award. That said, the team itself performed much better as a whole. Here's hoping that what the Twins have in place (coaching staff, core roster, etc.) continues to improve and next season if we see "real" MVPs (pitcher and player) performances, that will directly result in more wins!
  18. NYTWINS - the stats above are from THIS season. You quoted career stats. Neither Plouffe nor Arcia performed to the career norms this past season. Plouffe (SLG = .435, OPS = .742, OPS+ = 99) was better and Arcia (SLG = .379, OPS = .718, OPS+ = 96) was worse. So to think that this will reverse going into next season is overly optimistic in my opinion.
  19. I like both charts as well. Pretty obvious that the biggest offensive issues are catcher and first base / 3rd spot in the batting order. The third spot in the order can be addressed by moving Joe to the 2-hole or down in the order. But then, who do you put around Sano? Do you move him up to 3rd in the order? Also, those who are clamoring to trade Plouffe and use Vargas or Arcia at DH, why? Neither one of them has proven consistent enough to be handed that spot. Unless they can get another consistent power hitter in return, Plouffe at 3B and Sano at DH is stronger than Sano at 3B and Vargas or Arcia at DH, and the above charts/stats shows that.
  20. I agree with all the complimentary comments above. I look forward to my "daily" Twins Daily read, and look forward to all the news and rumors during what should be a very interesting off season.
  21. Several things could happen between now and next April, but there should be one opening available in the bullpen for one of the traditional "starters" - that being the "long relief" guy. For some reason the Twins decided to have Rule 5er J.R. Graham in that role this season. I don't see that happening in 2016 unless several injuries/trades alter the Twins pitching landscape.
  22. Back to the "double letter" former Twins. "TT" was the last one posted. To my knowledge, there have been no Twins with "UU", "VV", "WW", "XX", "YY" or "ZZ". Thus that sub-topic is done. So, I'll add a non Twins player with double initials - Walt Weiss - the 1988 A.L. Rookie of the Year.
  23. I believe that Thome's blast off of Blackie is still in orbit!
  24. As long as Tyler Jay doesn't turn into the next Kenny Jay (think jobber wrestler, circa the AWA)... In all seriousness I'm pleased with Tyler's initial stint in pro ball. Let's hope he can keep it up next season.
