  1. Wait a minute; when the Stock Market is down, that's when you buy, buy, buy. You've just stated that everyone is going to be looking to save money and that means that salaries are going to be depressed. The Twins make pretty good profits year after year after year. You said you'd roll with the same team 'if you could' but that it'd cost $150M to do so. Well then, what better year to do so than this one, where everyone else is (in theory) decreasing their payroll, ie; talent level? Maybe you let Cruz go due to the Donaldson duplication there, but why not actually go after winning the World Series? That's what we're here for, right? Yes, I know it's a business, but if you liked your team's chances before, investing NOW actually increases your chances of winning it all. I realize the 'fans in the stands' is a crapshoot, but what would a serious run, or god forbid winning it all, do for $$$ inflow (or player's desire to play here) over the next several years? I know, it's not my money, but if not now, when?
  2. You can't cherry pick your numbers like that; I mean, you can, but it isn't a true reflection of what you're getting. Like: (he missed most of 2019 so we can ignore that year) . No, you can't. Some guys are/get hurt more than others, simply a fact. Now, over the last two of three years, what was the "availability" (to pitch) of our 3 guys you're trying to replace vs. that of your 'prospects'? Total innings pitched? Lefty/Righty splits? For that matter, over the last 3 years, what was the aggregate winning % of the teams/batters that these guys faced? You get a much clearer and 'true' picture then.
  3. I see a guy whose numbers suggest that he can't find the plate and is forced to throw his low movement FB to keep from walking guys and pays the price for it. Moving away from Coors will put him in heavier air, which will help the movement on the FB but will also exacerbate his plate finding issues with the rest of his pitches. With the previous shoulder issues and a plan to get him to use the slider more will probably earn him TJ surgery in 1-2 years in trying to 'remake' his throwing motion.
  4. Unless they figure out he needs glasses, or has an "aha" moment, it doesn't matter at this point; If they were going to do it, his value would have been higher a year or two ago because he still had some "intrigue" left; but now he is a known quantity, and unless a team has a specific need for "him", it will be tough to fleece another them in a trade. So, that said, and Donaldson's propensity for injury, might as well keep him unless they're totally blown away by an offer. So shop? No. Listen to offers? You bet.
  5. One could also argue that that methodology limits the quality of the arm you will get. Teams aren't going to give up their best arms, and the Twins aren't likely to outpay anyone for them either. So really, you're getting other team's B- to C- guys that they have replacements for and you hope to fix-up a bit. Steady, but not spectacular performance. Makes for consistent regular season performance, but not quite enough to win in the payoffs. Sound familiar?
  6. How quickly they forget..... Carlos Silva on 8/3/04 CGSO giving up 11 hits, but getting 6 DP's, in a 99 pitch effort; glove in the air and ball thrown into the upper deck along the 1st base line as game completed. And yet, here we are...
  7. Would this trade have been made if Maeda was making $6M (still cheap) a year, instead of 3?
  8. Thing to keep in mind with the whole 'air resistance' of the ball going back up, is pitchers will also see an uptick in their ball movement as the higher resistance interacts with the air on the way to the plate. So it won't be just the hitting for distance that will decrease, but also the ability to get good, squared up contact with the ball will also be harder to achieve.
  9. Granted, he gets no say in the matter but that style of usage would really cut into his earning capabilities; contract is really structured on his getting healthy and making starts moreso than just spot pitching and picking up stray innings. If he's a hot temper sort of guy, he would probably not be too happy with your scenario.... Incentives: $1 million for 5 games started or 25 innings $1M for 7 starts/35 innings $1M for 9 starts/45 innings $1.5M for 11 starts/55 innings $2M for 13 starts/65 innings $3M for 15 starts/75 innings
