  1. I think I'm finally realizing that in Twinsland, pitching depth means how far underwater the staff is.
  2. "I don't see how a salary cap has anything to do with either being a better product." I think on some level it is just perception, in the sense that, at the base level, everyone is working with the same 'budget', which people will perceive as competitive "fairness". And it is not the same, but for the casual or semi-casual fans, there's a certain amount of "how many times do I need to go see the Harlem Globetrotters (or if you're on the bottom end, the Washington Generals) in a given year?" Yes, there are people who go purely for the entertainment factor and don't know anything about the game/players and have a good time, but most people want to go and enjoy their team having a 'fair' shot at winning (and not that they don't, but the perception....)
  3. The issue with this concept is throwing all this extra money into the player pool is that it doesn't come along with a bunch of "better" players. It's not like there's a ton of guys "holding out" and not playing because they aren't making what they think is fair. Now I'm certainly not against the players getting "their fair share" or anything like that, but ultimately, nothing about the "quality of play" will change. There's just too much room from the proposed floor to the proposed cap, and if they don't do something about deferred payments, that's just another "workaround" for any proposed changes. Again, not against players getting paid, but until there's truly "open books" I just don't think this will work out they way they think it will.
  4. I think MLB has expanded the playoffs to the point where the diluted quality of some of the teams involved (supposed "contenders") are deluded in their thinking that they actually have a chance to go somewhere.
  5. yes, yes they do; they bring in guys every year hoping they don't have to use them; doesn't mean they won't, but it isn't their preference. I'm not going digging and not "all in" on MIL, so I'll just ask, what roles were those two brought in to have? bench players? Have they performed better than the people they were supposed to be "backing up"? If yes, that's why they have the most PAs, you play the guys that are getting the job done, but in reality, are either of these guys going to replace the "starter" permanently? No.
  6. "maybe every team will bring in vets on one year deals to fill in depth and you have consistently gotten agitated over a complete nonissue?" Except the Twins don't bring them in for "depth"; they bring them in in quasi-starting or heavy platoon roles.
  7. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2026/05/jose-berrios-undergoes-tommy-john-surgery.html?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=news-2026-05-21#h=169267 Looks like TOR could use some starter help..... And this is all I meant by trading Ryan while the iron is hot. It's free to "ask for the moon" whenever you want. For some of these big spending teams, they still have a chance to get their season straightened out, and they might roll the dice to acquire a guy that isn't just a rental well before the deadline to do so. Possibly McAdoo and some kids that will be cheap and ready come post-'27 or whatever. The Twins are going to need some creativity and I guess I don't know how much walk-up attendance would be affected between now and the deadline by trading Ryan earlier (signaling a white flag). I guess it's just a risk management decision.
  8. You're kidding, right? He will be the most chased after SP that will be theoretically 'available' come the trade deadline (if healthy), so you let teams know now, and let them put together packages. As SP health is kind of driving just how good/how far teams can go in the playoffs, if I'm a good team or even a fringe team and I want to bolster my chances for the postseason and you can do it 2 months early, don't you do it?
  9. The way the season is going, I wouldn't be waiting for the trade deadline, I'd be on the horn and moving Ryan in the next 2 weeks (for good offers)before he gets hurt again; don't want to tempt fate any more than they need to, and this "hanging around .500 to get in the playoffs" talk? I just SMH. The stars just aren't going to be aligning this year.
  10. Wow. Talk about the class of the league. More skilled, faster... We'll be lucky to not get swept.
  11. The "X" (GCA) has a previously scheduled event for Friday...
  12. As of yesterday... Brodin out for Game 1 (and not traveling with team to CO, so probably G2 as well), after blocking a shot (lower body injury); Erickson Ek may or may not be out/travel after hitting the sideboard in Game 6.
  13. With things playing out more or less as ordained, I'm getting into the mid-summer doop-de-doos a little early I guess. "Sheltie" just doesn't get it done for me; such low hanging fruit. I realize he really hasn't had enough time to 'earn' a proper moniker through his actions/pressers yet, but I was kinda getting stoked with the early wins and was toying around with "Helter Sheltor" or maybe "Shelator" but now I'm scraping around in the dirt again; kinda feeling like Charlie Brown after a de-clothing line drive, with no choice but to get up and do it again. So, maybe, for now, just "Chuck"
  14. Some shots of Target Field from March 22, 2010 when hope and excitement were maxed out and the possibilities were "just around the corner"...
  15. Your Stockholm Syndrome is showing. The Twins need to decide if they are "trying to win baseball games" or be "in the entertainment business". Sure, Pablo's a great guy, gives a good interview, is a "plus" in the community, loved in the clubhouse....... None of those things put "W"s in the win column. If he is favorable to a 1 year "make good" type contract with a team option, sure. But multi-year extensions with the league turmoil coming up? C'mon.
  16. Here's some food for thought: Number of SPs who made 15+ starts for their team and finished with ERA's over 5.00 last year: Rockies and Marlins: 4 each White Sox, Angels, A's, and Nats: 3 each Reds, Royals, Pirates, Cards, Rangers, Jays: 2 each I didn't look into injuries, etc., as I figured if they threw them out there 15+ times with those ERAs, they didn't have other options to go with. So, we're starting out with one foot in the tub while holding a toaster with an iffy cord.
  17. "he was facing an uphill battle to break into a deep major-league rotation out of camp" Outside of Ryan (and Lopez), only SWR had an ERA under 5 last year. While we've got a really deep MINOR-league rotation, we've only got 2 "knowns" for the Majors.
  18. Stafford has back problems and is older than Russell; not breaking the bank for a one year fling.
  19. Okay, so I guess they waited a while to piece together this whole new round of $$$ bumps and bonuses.... https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/minnesota-revises-flecks-contract-new-annual-bonus/

  21. Not that it doesn't have anything to do with it, but I wonder if T Pohlad's phone calls with STH all had the same 'vibe', and knee jerk or not, this is the result.
  22. You should always "be listening". The problem is I don't think the Twins are capable of trading for the right players/prospects that will improve the team.
  23. Also teach JJMc that every throw doesn't have to be a fastball. I remember it took several years for John Elway to realize that.
  24. I did not, but, there's no postings or articles written about it here; a search of #twinsfest on X (twitter), a place where people post about EVERYTHING they do, basically came up dry. Even a general google search of Twinsfest (images) had almost nothing. It was just surprising, although maybe due the current strife, people didn't come downtown. Anyway, I'm just curious about the total lack of 'publicity' for the event. Not seeing anything for Twinslive either.
