  1. I've never seen such a thing. Fascinating.
  2. I see the "disruption" a little differently for a starting pitcher versus a position player. A position player who gets called up and sits for 6 days with only a pinch hitting appearance or an 8th inning substitution definitely seems like he's being disrupted. A starting pitcher who gets called up for a start or two, knowing that he's going to go back down? That doesn't seem all that disruptive, even if he doesn't make it through the 3rd inning. Of course, if a pitcher is called up and then doesn't get used for 12 days like what happened last year...that also would seem to qualify as disruptive.
  3. LaTroy Hawkins was in the bullpen for that game. They showed him a couple of times while Dick and Torii talked about how good he looked out there. And I think they talked about the jacket he was wearing. I was half-listening during that part of the game. I'm pretty sure anyway. If anyone can give me an "Amen," I'd feel much better about this entire thread.
  4. Well, today was a good old fashioned let's play two tomorrow rain out. When that happens, I tend to find myself watching the previous game's highlights over and over. And so, today I watched Kennys Vargas hit a game tying two run blast several times. More than several. Maybe a dozen. I watched the pitch and the swing, I watched Vargas admire it for a moment, and I watched the fan in the upper deck try to jump(?) for it. And then, I started paying attention to Torii Hunter, who uttered a phrase as Vargas approached third base that it took me a while to place. First, Torii: http://m.mlb.com/video/v1406670983/kcmin-vargas-launches-a-gametying-tworun-homer/?query=vargas And, Torii's inspiration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-eb61BLIWw That's beautiful. I hope Torii throws in movie quotes every time he's on air.
  5. I think this is my favorite series on Twins Daily. Thanks for the update.
  6. I also think the numbers will be higher than this. By a fair margin.
  7. Yeah, not what I would do either. But let's say they don't really value Vargas or Park...wouldn't trying to sign Napoli be logical? Again, assuming they'd try to trade Vargas or slip him through waivers in such a scenario. A two year Maurer-Napoli platoon? Maybe I'm reaching, but I'm willing to let "the plan" run for a bit, even if I don't especially understand it or what parts I see being executed.
  8. Just saw this. Yeah, I thought of that, too. But we don't know how hard they tried, right? (If we are talking about Alvarez.) Did they call his agent and say "here's a contract we're offering"? We don't know (I don't think). And if they signed Alvarez, they may well have traded Vargas or tried to slip him through waivers, too. I don't know. Not that I don't think they are capable of making their own logjams. I'm just not ready to hang them.
  9. The more I think about it, the more this FO has been at least partially hamstrung by the old FO. Signing Park last year gave us an abundance of 1B/DH types. That was a problem this FO had to try to resolve. No front office would cut Mauer at this point, even if he is a shadow of his former self. His former self still sells a lot of jerseys and milk.Vargas is still young - coming into his age 26 season - with a minor league OPS of .849, and showing flashes of power and hitting that we'd all love to see in the lineup daily if he can put it together.Park had a terrible year last year. The Park Bangs, when he connected, were fantastic. But other than some ooh and aah home runs, he was very Tim Laudner. And he has a significantly larger contract than Vargas. The new FO, in a fit of trying to fix a mess from the old FO, decided that we couldn't keep three 1B/DHs on the roster. They can't let Mauer go. That leaves Vargas and Park. They calculated (correctly), that no team would grab Park (and his contract) after hitting .191 last year. After that, there was very little chance that the team would go north with Park, even if he hit Park Bangs every other at bat. I'm not sure how 40 man rosters are assembled. I don't know if they know exactly how many hitters they want vs pitchers, or how much flexibility there is. Personally, I don't get the dance they did on Rule V day to get Haley, and I don't get why they are willing to keep him on the roster now, unless Boston is just playing crazy hardball with their trade requests. I don't get why Tonkin has been kept. Or at least why both Haley and Tonkin are kept. But why Park isn't on the roster? It was an attempt to fix a 2016 problem. Park surprised everyone this spring, you know? That's a good thing. I hope he keeps it up in the minors and the FO is forced to make another move, and/or that they are already trying to make another move.
  10. Hoping for the best is great, but for every veteran who figures out a different way to succeed, there are dozens who figure out a way to fade away. I'd love for Hughes to have something parallel to Sabathia, but I'd guess that Tim Lincecum and Jered Weaver and many others would like that, too. Good luck to Hughes. Stay stretched out to Duffey.
  11. I can hardly believe the attempts at humor in this thread, and I don't think some of you are who you say you are. You're all nothing but... ...cheesy impastas. DID WE WIN YET?
  12. Dantes929 Today, 11:22 AM Am I reading this correctly? If the stats hold true the Twins will go from a negative 65 runs to a positive 45 runs thereby preventing 110 runs over the course of a season. Last year it would have brought their ERA from 5.09 down to 4.40. ———— Sorry, the quote feature doesn't seem to be working for me. I believe the stats cited are cumulative over a three year period, not averaged. I didn't go look them up myself, but that's how I read it.
  13. I thought of a very similar idea a few years back. I called it FanGame.
  14. I hope Buxton stays healthy all year, but if he goes down for more than a week, will Granite be the primary call up?
  15. Is this thread the one where joking is allowed? If so, then why is no one joking in here?
