  1. Let's make contact - clap, clap, clapclapclap
  2. Just noticed that GameDay has Torii on our bench.
  3. Find a makeshift altar. I'll hold a spot over here by Target Center.
  4. Judging by how Target Field looks, I'd say up at least a little bit...kind of towards the top of Target Center, so I can't see much into left or center, but a tremendous view of the big glove. But everything seems a bit wonky. For example, the fireworks display during the National Anthem looked really spectacular instead of just being a few paltry pops and crackles, so I'm not really trusting my judgement right now. I suppose it could be a bit of a limbo situation. Pergatory-ish, maybe. OK, fellas. Still dead. Still hoping it was worth it. Let's scrap our way into another straight number inning.
  5. Um, Twins? I'm kind of dead over here on this marble slab. You could maybe pick it up a little. I'd like to have my self-sacrifice be worth it.
  6. I like the idea of a poll, but if there's no consensus, I'll take one for the team. Tell my wife and kids I love them. Tell the Twins that I really wanted them to go 1-6. Maybe just play the end of Saving Private Ryan where Hanks tells Damon to earn it. That might be better than the 1-6 thing, which sounds a little crazy. Who would sacrifice themselves for that? This makeshift altar is chilly.
  7. I'll do it. I'm sure there's a makeshift altar around here somewhere. And a makeshift human.
  8. I think "win" is subjective. For some, it may mean that the Twins are credited with a win at the end of the game. For others, it may mean that the team is in full and good health at the end of the game. For others, it may mean that Ricky Nolasco got lost on the way to the ballpark. Me? I consider it a win when there are at least 3 Circus Boy updates in one game thread.
  9. Starting Pitchers (5): Ervin Santana, Kyle Gibson, Phil Hughes, Tommy Milone, Ricky Nolasco Relief Pitchers (7): Glen Perkins, Kevin Jepsen, Trevor May, Casey Fien, Fernando Abad, Ryan Pressly, Dan Runzler Catchers (2): Kurt Suzuki, John Ryan Murphy Infielders (6): Joe Mauer, Byung Ho Park, Brian Dozier, Eduardo Escobar, Trevor Plouffe, Eduardo Nunez Outfielders (4): Eddie Rosario, Miguel Sano, Byron Buxton, Oswaldo Arcia Utility (1): Danny Santana Tyler Duffey - AAA to battle for next man up when one of the starters gets injured Michael Tonkin - wherever fate takes him - traded, lost on waivers, or AAA John Hicks/Juan Centeno - AAA to start, then part of a 3-headed John/John/Juan rotation of backup catchers running back and forth between MLB and AAA with Murphy Ryan O'Rourke - AAA...which I think is kind of too bad. I think he's a good piece. I'm not sure how that all works out with the 40 man though, so maybe this is all nonsense. Edit: too many relievers
  10. Is this a new guy? I don't remember hearing much about him.
  11. I was also going to write something optimistic about Arcia's possibilities. Even if he just gets 300 ABs, 15 HR is a real possibility for him (assuming his ABs come against right-handers) - in his career against righties, he averages a HR every 17.1 AB.
  12. My opinions on your predictions. Miguel Sano: 35 - I'd put no money on this one way or another. Seems about right. Byung Ho Park: 30 - I'll take the under. Brian Dozier: 25 - I'll take the under. Trevor Plouffe: 20 - I'll take the under. Eduardo Escobar: 15 - I'll take the under. Eddie Rosario: 15 - I'll take the under. Byron Buxton: 15 - I'll take the under. Joe Mauer: 10 - I'll take the under. Kurt Suzuki: 5 - I'll take the under. Man, I must be a super pessimist today. I appreciate the write up. I just don't agree. edited - spelling
  13. Arcia, career (as a 22, 23, and 24 year old) versus right-handed pitching: .250/.322/.485 - OPS .807 1 HR every 17.1 AB That's good enough reason to me to keep him around and trot him out there on occasion with a right hander on the hump. El Jardinero!
  14. Buxton in CF, Rosario in LF, RF rotating door depending on who is pitching and who else is playing where. RF might be Sano regularly based on what the team keeps saying, but I can't bring myself to type that in there just yet because it seems like such a weird thing to me. Arcia will have some RF days and some DH days, hopefully to crush the living poo out of baseballs thrown by right handed pitchers. Danny Santana will be in the OF on occasion, too, hopefully not showing last year's .532 OPS.
  15. As a further pile on to the "it can happen to anyone" line, I had double bypass in January 2015 at the ripe old age of 44. It's not fun, so avoid it if you can. And you can. Get your hearts checked (especially if you have family history of heart issues or high cholesterol/triglycerides), exercise 5-6 times a week (a brisk 30 minute walk will do fine), and take a look at your diet (eat real food, not too much, mostly plants). 16. Another good one. Thanks for the regularity of these articles - they are some of my favorite things to read on TwinsDaily.
  17. I figured I'd look up last year's stats so we don't have to rely on our memories and personal biases one way or the other that go with those memories. Here are the data from Trevor May and Tommy Milones' starts in 2015. Obviously, this isn't a whole lot of data to go by, but it's something to look at. My interpretation is that Milone might have a slight advantage in the pitching deeper, but not overwhelmingly so, and probably not nearly enough in scale (or sample size) to say significantly so. If you go by average innings per start, May was 5.21 (not quite 5 innings + 1 out), Milone was 5.55 (not quite 5 innings + 2 outs). 2015 May 16 Games Started Times Pitched Into or Through a given inning 1st - 1 (6.25% of starts) 2nd - 0 3rd - 1 (6.25% - the "stretch out" game after being in the bullpen) 4th - 2 (12.5%) 5th - 1 (6.25%) 6th - 7 (43.75%) 7th - 4 (25%) 8th - 0 9th - 0 Milone 23 Games Started Times Pitched Into or Through a given inning 1st - 0 2nd - 1 (4.35%) 3rd - 1 (4.35%) 4th - 1 (4.35%) 5th - 3 (13.04%) 6th - 9 (39.13%) 7th - 7 (30.43%) 8th - 1 (4.35%) 9th - 0
