  1. I hadn't been paying attention today. WHY ON EARTH was Benson the guy to be removed from the 40-man? That's preposterous. The Twins are mystifying with how they deal with minor league players. Last year's treatment of him (the demotion to AA) before the injury was insulting, so I can understand if he is mad at the organization. On the other hand, this . . . wait there is no other hand because there is no reason to have done anything like this. RELEASING a still top 20 prospect instead of trying to work out some kind of trade? Really? Or Benson could have been a nice addition to a Morneau or Willingham trade to someone. Just GIVING HIM AWAY when the 40-man is not full of real talent is damn bad.
  2. Wow, that is a bit odd. Promote a guy and then release him a month later?
  3. Really? You just assume the Twins are in the right and that the best punishment was to bench a top prospect?
  4. Definitely need more details about this.
  5. Herrmann has started to hit in his last four games. He is now at .238/.313/.286. The slugging is still not there and that is a problem. Basically a .20/.30/.100 raise is needed for viabilty. His k/bb rate is improving over time. Fun fact: Herrmann is terrible in day games this year. In 51 at bats he has an OPS of .352. In night games? 96 at bats and an OPS of .729.
  6. If David Ortiz or Mike Napoli break down (or both), then I would try to trade Morneau immediately. Getting a 100-200 level prospect (think Kepler, May) and a 200-300 (think Santana, Goodrum) would be enough for me.
  7. Well hopefully some of this year's draft will be worthy of starting at Cedar Rapids! There is Max Kepler who will hopefully be in Cedar Rapids soon. Other guys like Dereck Rodriguez, Rory Rhodes, Angel Mata, JT Chargois, et al will be likely headed to Cedar Rapids at some point this year. Things get crowded. What is good is that the teams shouldn't get much worse . . . replacing Sano, Rosario, Morales, and Vargas will be guys like Buxton, Walker, and DJ Hicks.
  8. I would like to see a number of players promoted soon, from Sano and Buxton to Pinto and Koch. I would promote upwards and then get rid of the rampant filler at Rochester (Olmedo, Fryer, Thomas, Bernier, etc.).
  9. I would prefer Gibson being limited to a small amount of innings over the next month in Rochester than calling him up right now. Walters makes sense. Keep in mind that Gibson is going to be limited to 100 innings max for the rest of the season.
  10. Hermsen is the obvious choice. No one is going to claim him.
  11. Hermsen would clearly be the right decision. Good call. Hermsen is terrible, by the way. That ship has sailed, unfortunately. He will not even make my next top 50 prospect list.
  12. And Parmalee is bad. Thankfully, the Twins traded Liriano so that I didn't have to see any more "Lariano" nonsense.
  13. I don't really care about general things, but when I see a thread "Arica" I just can't take it. It's not me simply be snobbish, it's about the site being at its best. It's ridiculous to even post in such a thread to continue such a thing.
  14. Apparently no one else is a leftist fighting against the corporatocracy in this country. Oh well.
  15. Baxendale needs to be promoted to New Britain. Morales too. And the rest should follow. There is no need to wait anymore for those two. And J.D. Williams. Anyway, I am glad to see Darnell bust a game like that out. I had almost given up on those guys (Darnell, Dean, etc.) as a whole.
  16. Gausman is a wonder. I am curious to see how the rest of 2013 goes for him. He and Kyle Zimmer were the two guys I wanted. Significantly different results for those two thus far.
  17. I am starting this thread for people to look up the 2012 draft round by round and judge the 2012 draft in hindsight and compare players taken later in rounds and compare them to who the Twins actually took. It's rather jerkish, but that's OK. Let me start with one of the two 2012 Purdue players who I loved last year. Now, catcher Kevin Plawecki was selected by the Mets at a spot higher than even I had imagined and the Twins pick before that was Berrios. So I have no problem there. Plawecki is dominating A ball this year with a 1.042 OPS, 19 doubles, 5 homers, and a 16/20 BB/K rate. I made a claim that Plawecki would end up being better than Zunino. That may have been wrong, but he is surely holding more than his own right now. The real complaint comes in the 9th round of last year's draft. The Twins drafted LJ Mazilli at 280 and he didn't sign. Looking back, it was VERY predictable that he wouldn't sign at that spot in the draft. Seven picks later the Marlins selected Purdue's Nick Wittgren. Between low-A and high-A in 2012 and 2013, Wittgren has pitched 54 and 2/3 innings. He has 74 strikeouts, an ERA of 0.99, only 9 walks, and a WHIP of 0.933. He is a dominant reliever and it is unfortunate that the Twins didn't see this while they were so reliever-crazy last year. Wittgren will be closing for the Marlins within 3 years.
  18. I am going to restart a blog, which will be not merely Twins stuff. So I will be diligent about linking to it.
  19. I would suggest that this site really try to correct incorrect spellings of the names of players in the Twins organization. It's absurd seeing "Arica" and "Worly" right now.
  20. Williams has sustained his offense so far this week. He is now at .262/.419/.495 (.914), while adding another stolen base, three walks and only one strikeout. I tend to look at high ISO numbers as a good predictor of success as long as the BB/K ratio is not bad. It's actually very good in this case 28/29. If I were the "decider" I would promote Williams to Fort Myers immediately (Morales to NB, NB gets rid of some filler, and Dereck Rodriguez joins Cedar Rapids). Williams is performing ABOVE his 2011 season right now. There is no reason to wait around.
  21. The Coke Ad That Could Destroy All Other Products, Especially Coke
  22. If the Twins really want to reward productivity, a few dozen players should be moving around that time (some of them immediately after the draft and the short seasons beginning).
  23. First, "views" does not equal "reads" does it? I have often wondered what percentage of "viewers" ended up being readers. Also, I like your idea, though I am not sure about Meyer. I liked Albers when the Twins first signed him and he has really produced.
  24. This was awesome. I am glad I found it after all this time.
  25. Sorry if I missed this as I didn't read through all of the posts, but I have to wonder if the entire rotation needs a different warmup approach, because these first innings are OUT OF CONTROL. I always thought that warming up for awhile, sitting down (like for equivalent of half an innings) and then warming up again some right before game time was a way some pitchers and pitching coaches addressed DEBACLES in the first inning. Any thoughts?
