  1. Yes, with mascots Muddy and Muddonna. But we’d better take a discussion of the first part offline before folks accuse us of doing math.
  2. Mrs. IT: I don’t like baseball, but I like some people who like baseball.
  3. IT and the family, checking in from Section 338, high above the third base line, hoping Jorge Polanco goes all Pablo Sanchez on the Tigers. Last night we watched Dougie Baseball’s Tiger AAA team (of course, it was the Tigers farm system, so it’s kinda like AA elsewhere) sweep Indianapolis at Fifth Third Field. Following the instructions of my elementary school math teacher to use fractions properly, I’ll just add that 1 2/3 Field is a really excellent place to catch a game if you ever are in Toledo.
  4. And all five that he trails are in the Hall of Fame.
  5. That's half a season's worth. And the amazing thing on getting four already this year is that replay is present. Of course, tonight's was a balk call.
  6. Plus 13 that are closed. Early on, I was fortunate enough to get to some of the tougher ones on my employer's dime when I had work conferences to attend. Then, 15 years ago this spring, my wife didn't nip the idea in the bud when I figured out that my 11-year-old son and I could go to Cleveland-Philadelphia-Mets-Off day-Red Sox-Expos-Blue Jays-Tigers on consecutive nights. (Then we stopped back home to pick up my wife and other son and went to Twins-Royals-Cardinals, though those were all repeats for me.) Along the way, we managed to also hit four Halls of Fame -- football, baseball, basketball, and hockey -- plus the really outstanding Negro League Baseball Museum in Kansas City. Once I got through that trip, I only had another 10 or so left, so I planned some strategic vacations. I finished off the Dodgers-Angels-Padres trio over spring break a couple years ago. SunTrust in Atlanta is the only one that opened after I had gotten to all 30, but I was able to get back there as well. What may be more impressive is that my wife has been to 23 of the current parks as well (I think). A couple years ago, I offered my one-paragraph summaries here: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/18116-thoughts-on-42-ballparks/
  7. And now we see why Mr. Buxton has so few steals. Why wait to go to second.
  8. I went to Tiger Stadium a couple times. It was lovable in a 1980s-dumpy sort of way. The best part was how the upper deck outfield seats were on top of the action. On Sunday, I may talk my sons into driving by the old location. I was reading online the other evening that there is a baseball field on the site and that a developer is putting in apartments that will look over the site.
  9. I've been fortunate enough to get to all 30, including Comerica several times since it's nearby. For an early Father's Day, my sons are taking me to a DH in Toledo tomorrow evening and Comerica on Sunday. I'd call Comerica "solid." They were one of the first to start to add a lot of "fan-friendly" stuff, and I've likened walking up to the primary entrance (1st base side) as feeling like I'm walking up to a county fair. I've never taken the Ferris wheel, however. The statue of Ernie Harwell is a nice touch. I've sat in the right field seats (Kaline's Korner), center field seats, down the first base line, and above home plate. Not a bad seat among them, though remember that because of how big the outfield is, your outfield seats will be even farther from home than normal. Because the football field is next door, it seems like there's plenty of available (and reasonably cheap) parking nearby. Enjoy!
  10. Thanks, Tom, for bringing the Game Recaps to TD and for the significant work that must go into it. As others have noted, it’s great to be able to get all this stuff in a single place. It’s essential reading, even when I’ve listened to or watched the game. I’m especially impressed with how quickly they get compiled and posted. Amongst the things on TD, the Game Recaps may be the singular best thing here. Of course, that’s kinda like saying that the Scotcheroos are the best thing at the potluck. I love it all, including WPA. Though I don’t know how to calculate it, it’s a nice way to getting a picture of both the big plays and the guys who may not have been featured in the lead. Bullpen usage chart is particularly useful, since that would be the hardest thing to find elsewhere. Only idea I have — in the links at the end of the article, how about including a link to that night’s Game Thread.* *And to continue the analogy, Game Threads are like the potluck’s chocolate fluff. I pretty much dive face-first into both every chance I get.
  11. To clarify, that's using the imperial system. In metric, and after reducing the fractions, I came up with... PMax = CLeVe/LaND
  12. I’ll be at the Sunday game after a Saturday night doubleheader in Toledo, which is about 90 minutes away, but I can’t give you many specific insights on Detroit. In general, however, the city has lost a lot of population in recent decades, so it seems like there is a lot of road infrastructure for the number of people. There’s enough parking for football downtown, so getting baseball parking isn’t bad. I’ve been able to park for 10 bucks without having to walk too far. As a whole, Detroit was a major destination in the northern migration of African-Americans, so the soul food is going to good, but I don’t know any specific places to try. And interestingly, I see there is a “Joe Muer Seafood” downtown.
  13. Der Schlagger and some Red Sox guy named Williams are the only two to have two three-homer games in Cleveland.
  14. Yadda, yadda, yadda. Now in second. 18.93 percent. And both three-homer games in his career have been in Cleveland.
  15. Also, two of the wins were of the blown-save-but-bailed-out-by-his-team variety.
  16. Der Schlagger update (8:00 EDT) -- with that homer, he has tied Glenn Hubbard for second place on the career home run list players born in Germany. He has hit 18.72 percent of all home runs hit by players born in Germany. He needs eight more to tie Mike Blowers.
  17. Der Schlagger update (7:12 EDT) -- with his next homer, he will tie Glenn Hubbard for second place on the career home run list among players born in Germany. He has hit 18.50 percent of all home runs hit by players born in Germany.
  18. No. 2: http://news.sportslogos.net/2017/05/20/sweet-new-logo-the-story-behind-the-new-orleans-baby-cakes/
  19. Strategic move on May's part -- allow a couple baserunners so the inning lasts longer and the tarp is timed perfectly.
  20. I'm thankful for the invitation I just received to Twinsporto's house for Thanksgiving dinner.
