  1. I wouldn't sleep on Jair Camargo, who came over in the Maeda trade, having a breakout in his age-20 season. Jim Callis tweeted that he has "plus raw power, some of the best exit velos in LA's system, strong arm as well."
  2. I would imagine that the Boston FO would suffer far greater damage to their reputation if this trade does in fact fall through, and that it would negatively affect their ability to make future trades. Boston reneging at this point would put the Twins FO in an awkward position that no other MLB FO would want to be put into.
  3. Agreed. A full one-third of the members of the Twins Hall of Fame never even played for the team, unless you count Tom Kelly's 49 games in 1975, and that ratio doesn't sit right with me. I'm not knocking the contributions of guys like George Brophy, Tom Mee or Jim Rantz, but if there's room for those guys then I think there should be room for players like Tovar.
  4. Because gold would act an excellent conductor of an electronic pulse from a tiny device and, in a sense, the tape would 'amplify' the signal by spreading it out over a larger surface area of the skin so that the player would more readily notice it. Gold would also protect against corrosion from, say, sweat. The real question is why the "Astros," who everyone knows is just a front for NASA, have never released their photographic evidence of the Flat Earth.
  5. Exactly, rated the same but ranked differently. Not sure why it seems that so many on this board would be unwilling to move Graterol or Balazovic (unless perhaps for a true ace), but I regularly see Duran get thrown into hypothetical trade propositions seemingly as an afterthought. Do people confuse him with Alcala? I wonder if those that still cry foul at the Escobar trade would feel differently if we had swapped a pending free agent for Graterol or Balazovic, rather than Duran. Personally, I've been really high on Duran since we acquired him. But more than anything, I'm extremely excited to have three starters in that tier. History has shown us that you need multiple minor league pitchers with ace upside, because some will end up as relievers (May), others won't make it at all (Meyer), and many will crest as mid-rotation starters. Having all three of these guys doesn't guarantee an ace by any stretch of the imagination, but it definitely improves our odds.
  6. For what it's worth, Fangraphs actually has Duran ranked ahead of both Graterol and Balazovic.
  7. I mean, mlb.com had him rated as THE #2 international prospect in the 2018 class so, yeah, THE Yennier Cano. From what I remember, he was seen as an older, more polished relief pitcher without a terribly high ceiling, but a guy who had the chance to move quickly and contribute to a MLB bullpen in short order. A quick search shows that he's 25 years old, listed at 6'5" and throws a 70 grade fastball, 60 grade changeup and 55 grade slider. I had to look up his name, but definitely remembered the signing because the timeline was really funky. As I said, Cano was the #2 prospect going into the summer of 2018 but didn't sign until shortly before the 2019 international signing date, and I'm not sure why. I think the Twins had the most international money left over from the previous summer and spent it on Cano. Whatever the case, the Twins ended up nabbing the #2 and #6 (Misael Urbina) prospects from the 2018 class. Hoping his lackluster numbers this past summer were due to being away from competitive ball for a year and that he rebounds nicely this summer.
  8. I think the Twins were granted a fourth option year on Romero, but it won’t matter how many options he has if he can’t learn to adjust. I was super high on him when he first came up, much more so than Gonsalves, and had visions of Berrios, Graterol and Romero atop the rotation. Now I’m dreaming on Berrios, Graterol and Duran.
  9. They’ve also signed Pineda to a pair of two-year pacts.
  10. Very sad situation. That said, I respect the record length of the suspension sans formal criminal charges, and that at least to this point the MLBPA hasn't fought the league on punishing one of its players in such a clear-cut incident. I honestly think they should've suspended him longer. And I wish there were more of a focus on counseling, therapy and education for both perpetrators and victims alike, because these sorts of things don't happen in a vacuum. But at least this is a step in the right direction.
  11. This is the way that I understand it as well, and I don't understand the consternation. A team can still call up every player on their 40-man, but they can only have 28 active per game; the remaining players would be 'healthy scratches.' I would expect the additional two (or six in your example above, which makes sense) to change from game to game in September. There should still be ample opportunity to both rest tired arms and nicked up players for the postseason, as well as get an early look at some young guys on the 40-man. And we'll hopefully have to sit through fewer September games that seem to take forever to end, because the entire lineup is swapped out after the 6th inning and a dozen pitchers make token late-game appearances.
  12. And we have plenty of good prospects in the pipeline to trade. Boston definitely isn't getting rid of Price as a straight salary dump, but I think the Twins have the prospect capital and budget space to acquire him, sign a top FA pitcher and still keep the top end of the farm system in good shape.
  13. Why do you think that would be unlikely?
  14. Any speculation then on why so much turnover in the AAA coaching staff?
  15. What's the reasoning for putting Rosario in RF and Cave in LF?
  16. From what I understand, he's missed time to both injury and working through some personal stuff, but has all the talent in the world and is supposed to be a good kid. If he can put in a full season free of injuries and distractions, he has the potential to rocket up the rankings. Top 50? Definitely. And I think he has the potential to bump up against the top 10 by the end of next year if things break right. But even if they don't, Chalmers is exactly the type of flier I want my team picking up for a middling reliever on an expiring contract.
  17. I live very close to and work relatively near Target Field, and there’s been an intermittent light misting off and on all day, the sort of annoying ‘rain’ where your wipers squeak even if you leave them on the lowest setting so you have to manually hit the wipers like every half a minute. They’ll definitely play the game, but I’d dress warmer than forecast would suggest.
  18. Not gonna lie, totally unintentional! Hoping for plenty of clean innings from him, though...
  19. Love Dyson's K/BB and WHIP this year, and he's kept it in the park. Probably his best season to date, and I want a hot hand if we're nabbing a reliever at the deadline. Plus he's controlled through 2020. Bonus that we didn't give up anybody in the top 30, and I think Davis would've had to have been protected this fall. Still wanted more, but I like this trade in vacuum.
  20. Guessing he's replacing a Twins AA starting pitching prospect being sent out in a trade. Graterol? Duran? Alcala? Colina? Jax?
  21. Wow, so the Twins nabbed the #2 and #6 ranked prospects from the 2018 IFA class, simultaneously adding a reliever before the trade deadline in Cano who only cost cash and might be able to contribute at the MLB level this season. Very impressive use of the additional IFA space that they traded for.
  22. The big name connected to the Twins for the upcoming signing period is Dominican CF Enmanuel Rodriguez. MLB.com ranks him eighth in the class and compares him to a young Eddie Rosario with "the potential to have above-average tools across the board." Batting practice video linked here if you want to check out his swing.
  23. Did we come out of spring training with more injured pitchers than usual?
  24. When I dug into Duran after we acquired him, this article is what really started to pique my interest in him as a prospect. The gist of the article is that he started having success last season when he began fully buying into coaching and the process of transforming himself into a pitcher, rather than just a thrower. And that's a huge development for me when it comes to pitching prospects.
