  1. I don't get why Lewis Thorpe isn't even being mentioned here, but Romero had everyone drooling last offseason. Lefty starter and still just 22 next season, former nationally ranked prospect who had a great bounce back campaign after missing the previous two. And I've always heard that he has great stuff. What am I missing here?
  2. My point, Bartolo, is that I don't want a 44-year-old player taking PT away from a still-developing player almost half his age. The Twins have options in the outfield, but were desperate for starting pitching when they signed you. That said, admirable performance this year for the Twins, and thank you!
  3. It was his birthday yesterday. His 44th birthday. Love him, but I'll pass.
  4. Talent aside, Jay needs to get some positive in-game momentum going into 2018. Really hoping it happens in the AFL this year. I've pretty much given up on Eades.
  5. The Twins are one of these two decent teams, right? RIGHT?!?
  6. Behind Curtiss, Bard has been the (non-injured) reliever that I've been most hoping to see with the Twins this season. Former first round supplemental draft pick, been injured pretty much ever since then, but has put up great K numbers in his second full season back. He's 26 and needs to be protected this year, I want to see how he looks against MLB hitters before that decision has to be made.
  7. He's had a nice bounce back season so far after his sophomore season slump. He's made adjustments at the plate and remains one of my favorite Twins.
  8. I'd still prefer they try to move legitimately valuable prospects for young, controllable pitching. Gotta give up value to get value.
  9. Great game, and really happy to see the pitch count up to triple digits.
  10. I think Gonsalves' ceiling is considerably lower than Romero's...then again, Gonsalves keeps producing at every level, so if he can adapt to AAA I'll start putting a lot more faith in him topping out higher than a MLB #3/4. Hasn't officially signed yet, but I'm in love with Enlow's curve. 1) Gordon 2) Lewis 3) Romero 4) Gonsalves 5) Enlow
  11. Goodrum has cooled off some lately and is hitting .239/.288/.408 on the season for an OPS of .696 with 15 doubles, 2 triples and half a dozen home runs. He hasn't stolen a base in about two months and, while he played mostly SS and CF to start the season, Goodrum has primarily started in RF and at 2B since.
  12. Absolutely love this pick. Enlow could've been rated higher but has a very strong commitment to LSU that will take some cash to pull him out of.
  13. I'd really like to see the Twins draft Gore. I think he ends up the best player in the draft and, even as a Boras client, the team should still be able to save a little money for picks 35 and 37.
  14. Man, this is disgusting. That being said, in the vast majority of cases like this, the perpetrator of child sexual abuse was also formerly a victim of child sexual abuse themselves. It's a horrible, horrible cycle. I don't know the details of this specific case but, if Heimlich was in fact molested himself when he was younger, I question how much weight we should put on the (abhorrent) actions of a 14/15-year-old former victim of child sexual abuse that hadn't received proper therapy and treatment. If he received counseling and therapy, and is continuing to receive treatment, I would at least keep an open mind on him as a person. Not so much as a Twins draft pick, though; that's a lot of baggage. Again, I'm speculating A LOT here.
  15. I want Gore. Greene has velocity and you can't teach velocity. High school players do tend to grow into their bodies, though, and add a couple of ticks onto their fastballs. I'm not convinced that you can teach feel, though, either. I think with the right coaching, pitchers can improve feel on breaking balls, but it's certainly not a given. Greene doesn't have much movement at all at this point and looks like more of a thrower than a pitcher to me. Gore has great feel on his breaking balls for a high school player, and looks like much more of a pitcher than thrower. I think he'll add a couple of ticks to his fastball and, most importantly, with the right coaching he could end up with two plus or better breaking balls. Plus he's a lefty. If Falvey sees something in Greene that he thinks he can mold him into an ace, go for it. If they think Wright can be a 1/2, then pick him. Heck, if the Twins want to think outside of the box and draft McKay as a hitter first who pitches at the back of the rotation, too, I can get behind that. But I want Gore.
  16. Turley, Trevor May and Alex Meyer are all 27 years old. Different players of course, but rhetorical question: would we be more or less likely to believe that Meyer had turned a corner and figured something out now?
  17. I'd like to see Luke Bard added to the 40-man and brought up for an audition next. He's two years removed from missing two straight seasons, and pitching like the player we drafted in the supplemental round back in 2012 for losing...Jason Kubel.
  18. Sorry, been a hellishly busy month for me, thanks Shane! A few quick tidbits to add: As Steve Lein noted in his roundup of yesterday's games, Goodrum had been on a nine-game hitting streak, which really helped bring his batting line up.As Shane noted, Goodrum can legitimately play all seven positions on the field other than pitcher and catcher, and he has now appeared at six positions for Rochester in 2017. The only position he hasn't played this season is 3, which is where Goodrum has recorded the most starts each of the past three seasons. After beginning the season with a spate of errors, Goodrum has committed just two errors over the past 20-plus contests, both as a MI.
  19. You're probably right...that said, the FO has come off as pretty intentional when it comes to how they view specific players, and if they see Duffey as best suited for the BP/likely to fail as a starter, I could see them keeping him in the pen no matter who it meant putting in the rotation until they viewed Berrios as ready. Not saying that's what I would do, but I could see the FO handling it like that. Duffey in the pen vs Duffey in the rotation has been argued enough times in enough other places...I'm still glad Hughes was able to make the starts he was, because the alternative could've been a lot worse.
  20. I was surprised and disappointed when Hughes didn't start the season on the DL. But as much as I wanted to see Berrios join Mejia in the rotation opening day, the FO obviously didn't feel the same way. As poorly as Hughes has pitched overall, he's had a few good starts that I doubt Tepesch turns in if Hughes is on the DL opening day and the FO decides Tepesch takes Hughes spot in the rotation to start the season.
  21. I've always thought it would be great to hop over to St. Paul to see Twins prospects play rather than making the trek to Beloit or Cedar Rapids, but never considered the economic competition part of the equation. Makes sense. Rochester, MN is too close...but what about Duluth? Small population in the city proper, sure, but I'd imagine a Twins minor league affiliate there would get a lot of Twins fans from surrounding outstate communities willing to drive less than an hour to games in Duluth that wouldn't consider driving the three hours to Minneapolis.
  22. Two players can carry a team all season long. It just might not be the same two players over the course of the season; streaks and slumps are part of the game. A couple more solid starts from Berrios will go a long ways towards my optimism that the Twins have the pitching talent to keep this thing going when Santana inevitably cools off.
